I'm posting here because I am doing my best to keep my wedding bug to myself and not drive Aaron crazy! Aaron and I have been talking about marriage for a long time. It's going to happen. He told me on Saturday that as soon as he has a stable job (he is a long term sub right now. He will get his sped certification in January, so I have no doubt after this school year he will have a job), he will propose. He even told me he has a plan in place!

Anyway, with all the talk of marriage, I have weddings on the brain. I know it is just hypothetical at this point, and is more musings than anything else. My dream would be to get married at Disney, although obviously I would have to talk to Aaron first (and I will not approach that until we are officially engaged. No sense in pressuring the poor boy!) I have my reasons, but I wanted to hear your reasons first. I am curious about why different people choose to get married there, and how they approached it with their family/friends. I figured better to get the wedding talk out of my system here than scare poor Aaron half to death!

There's a few reasons I want to get married at Disney, each of them varying in importance, a few of them are:

  • I wanted an intimate wedding, just family and close friends, so I can be relaxed all the time, and just enjoy myself.

  • If I were to get married locally, my wedding photos would be the same as everyone elses who gets married here... No matter what photographer you've got, they all take you to the same places for photos, there's no where else for us to suggest either...

  • Price - for the same price I'd be paying here, for a cookie cutter, run of the mill wedding, I'll be getting a complete wedding moon, customised just how I want it.

  • I'm looking forward to telling my WP exactly what I want everyone to be eating during the wedding, as apposed to a WP telling me what options are available.

  • We were unable to decide on a location here, and the Wedding Pavilion is just so beautiful

  • I don't know anyone else (present company exclued:thumbsup2) who's had a DFTW. I wanted something unique

  • I fell in love with Misty's photos. i must have her at my wedding!! :rotfl:

  • It's Disney... Duh

1- Location, location, location! WDW is close to an international airport, we live in a town that only has a regional airport and we have a lot of guests that are coming from Europe or other countries. Most of our family and friends live far away from us, and asking them to dish out even more money for extra connections to our town seemed like stretching it more and more.

2- Easy transportation from the airport to their resorts if they stay in Disney property, also easier to keep track of who is staying where and easier to deliver welcome bags, etc. It is afterall a destination wedding. Plus resorts from value to deluxe to fit everybody's budgets!

3- DH and I have both attended several conferences in Disney World, we know they can put up an event, coordinate food, activities and entertainment. We don't want to have to wrangle a florist, a caterer, a chair, table and tent rental company, plus transportation, entertainment, etc etc etc. The most we want to do is hire a photographer and make up artist. End!

4- Since our friends and families are making a long trip we want them to have fun, hence Disney World! It has something for everybody, and there are also great places to shop at the Orlando outlets, etc.

5- Beautiful locations! From the wedding pavilion to Epcot there are so many places to have a beautiful ceremony! You can go from over the top Disney princess to elegant and timeless and not even a hint of Mickey if you'd like.
It all depends on your taste.

6- DH and I love WDW, it is a place we escape to since it is close by whenever we don't have too much time for a long vacation. It is a fun break from reality, and we know it like the back of our hands, so we can be good hosts to our guests and we can also enjoy ourselves.

Why a Disney Wedding?

*We're both huge Disney dorks so I can't see ourselves not have a wedding there.

*We work for Disney, so we know exactly what we're wanting and we know how awesome it's going to turn out.

*Location: It's beautiful hands down. Disney is about detail and that's what I love about the World.

*The multiple Disney wedding pictures and videos are just to die for.

*The multiple opportunities! So many things you can do, it's just so much fun to plan out. Especially if certain spots mean something to you, it's going to be extra extra special.

Besides being a disney dork, i saw the original disney wedding video when i was 14...there was a clip of a bride and groom twirling in the AAR...i knew then that was going to be me:lovestruc

though it took another 14 years to find the right guy
(luckily another disney dork -who has a thing for fireworks)

I think Danny and I both want a small, intimate wedding. My cousin had a destination wedding in Punta Cana, DR, I could not go because the school year wasn't over yet but she had a small catholic ceremony about a month later for immediate family and we had a nice lunch after at a local restaurant. It was the nicest wedding I had ever been to and it was so simple and inexpensive. I think there was maybe 18 people in total.

So ever since then Danny and I wanted something like that. Being able to have immediate family and friends around us on a day like that and actually be able to talk to everyone and not miss out on something because there's 150+ people is exactly why we chose a Disney wedding. Even when we were planning an Wishes wedding we still were only inviting 30 people, now that it's back to an Escape wedding we are inviting 23 plus Danny and I.

Many, many reason:
- We hate doing things like everyone else. We started planning the usual Brooklyn, NY wedding, and it just did not seem right. I love thinking outside the box and doing things others I know would not do.
- PRICE! When we started adding up what it would cost to get married up here, we had a few choices - go into debt, or save up for years. Everything was SO expensive, we would have never been able to pay for a wedding up here. When we saw the price on the Escape wedding, I joked around with DF we should do it in Disney and he actually agreed!
- We wanted to keep it small. We don't know a lot of people at all really (DF is from GA and the people on his list willing to travel to NY had under 10 names on it) yet our guest list had over 100 people on it - my parent's coworkers, their friends whose kids weddings they attended, etc. We didn't want to have to pay for this expensive wedding with people we don't know/barely know. In addition to it being expensive, it's awkward.
- We got engaged in Disney, so we figured it meant something to us as well. Also, I love the Wedding Pavilion and love how it has the little beach right there for photos (which sounds silly, but I always wanted photos on a beachy area when I got married). Plus, it really is like a fairy tale wedding with the castle in the background.

1) Disney is special to us. It's the only place we've been together on vacation and we wanted a destination wedding, and we live at the beach so that doesn't leave many choices

2) Religion neutral. We're different religions (culturally) and agnostic so it takes that out of the pictures

3) I had a large Bat Mitzvah, so I've done the big party, ballroom, dj etc...I want something different

4) We wanted a small wedding. There are components of both our families that we don't talk to, and don't want them showing up.

5) Cost...honestly for the cost of the actual wedding, it's cheaper or comparable to one here.

6) We have eclectic tastes, and this way we have 3 unique locations and parts of our wedding.

7) The Dis. I had come here originally for the food section, but stumbled across this forum. And then pow! The idea entered into our head, and it was the place we were going to get married. There was never really a discussion nor was it a dream before we dated. It's just kismet.

I really like this thread idea. It's given me a chance to see what I have in common with other Disney brides on my location selection. It's also nice to see what reasons other brides have had for choosing Disney weddings.

My list:
1. Extreme control over the guests list; i.e. no unwanted/uninvited guests
2. Everything is so close. The reception hall and ceremony location are a fifteen minute walk away from each other.
3. All aspects are handled by the same person (Wedding planner). They do weddings all the time, so they know exactly what they’re doing
4. Why have a cookie-cutter wedding with 250 people you will never have time to talk to, when you can have an intimate wedding in the happiest/most beautiful place for the same price?
5. I can have the exact cake, décor, flowers, etc I want
6. It’s my family’s favorite vacation destination.
7. I’ve wanted to get married there since I was seven.
8. Where else can you have mice at your wedding who don't eat the food?
9. Since our friends and families are making a long trip we want them to have fun, hence Disney World! It has something for everybody, and there are also great places to shop at the Orlando outlets, etc. (borrowed from ChocoKat)

I know I'll be compiling more reasons in the future (I'll have convince Dbf's mom that this is a good idea), but this an excellent start. :thumbsup2

I have a huge family, and DF has a tiny one. The thought of a 400 person wedding gave both of us the willies, so we knew a destination wedding was for us. We were hoping his mother would come, so that limited us to the lower 48 states because otherwise she wouldn't travel. We looked at dozens of locations, but we realized we'd have to be "on" the whole time and would be expected to entertain people while they were there. Disney has that entertainment built right in, and people could make it a vacation for themselves beyond just our wedding.

It's nice to hear all the reasons. Here are mine:

-I used to work for Disney. As a short entertainer, I performed in lots of weddings and got to see the magic first hand. They do such a beautiful job, and it would be neat to experience it from the other side.

-Aaron and I are both theme park junkies. It was because of Disney we started talking. We met in grad school, I had worked for Disney, he worked for Worlds of Fun. We started trading theme park stories, and as they say, the rest is history.

-Family. My whole family is spread literally from coast to coast. No matter where I get married, they will have to travel. Most have kids, might as well make it a fun place.

-Ease. I love how everything is all roped into one.

Ditto! :rotfl:

I think you're asking the wrong question... The correct question is how could you NOT want a Disney wedding?? :teacher::rotfl:

my daughter had a disney wedding, they arranged everything for us ,all we had to do was get the license and show up.it was all sorted out over a couple of phone calls and could not have been more perfect ,11 years on and they are still living the dream .

I wanted a disney wedding as DF has a HUGE family and while I have a large fa,ily we don't invite everyone to the weddings and I didn't want to be overwhelmed by all his family members all night

The thought of a huge wedding makes me wnat to puke, I would hate to have so many people watching me

I LOVE disney (of course)

I saw the DFTW website and thought "wow we can actually afford this"

We were looking into vegas weddings at the Planet Hollywood (because I work for the hotel chain) and then we thought we couldn't spend the whole honeymoon in Vegas what else can we do? I know Disneyland... but it's small maybe we can go to Disneyworld after the wedding too, and then DF said the magic words "why don't we just get married at Disney World"

Done.

So we are

because we both love disney and after looking into things a modest (30 people) but spectacular wedding at disney world would be cheaper than having a normal, banquet hall, non spectacular wedding where we live. And we both hate where we live.

This is a nice thread...I really like everyone's reasons.

Much like most everyone here, DF and I love Disney - the service, the atmosphere, all the fun...we couldn't imagine getting married anywhere more magical. Disney would be perfect for making me feel like a Princess :)

On a more sentimental note, WDW means a lot to us:
  • we met there (I'm from Canada and he's from England, if it weren't for Disney we would have had no chance of meeting)
  • we got engaged there
  • some the most special and significant moments in our relationship have happened there
Due to the fact it played such a big part in the development of our relationship, there has been no doubt in our minds that it is there we want to begin our married life together.

We have been so lucky in that our family has been very accepting of this; although, it does help that no matter where we get married our guests will have to travel. Now we get an extravagant reception with the people closest to us, at an exceptional price.

Plus, I will finally get my Dad into a Disney park!!! He has never been, ever...which is weird as I have been pretty much every year since I was six. I think it is one of the things I get most excited thinking about; I know he will love it there once he finally goes.

Thanks for the nice information of Disney Wedding. This is really a good thread.
A Disney wedding and a Disney honeymoon is something almost every bride dreams about, even if just for a moment. Disney wedding package? I like the idea and its gonna be a dream come true for me but I know that its so expensive. I love Disney.... ;)

In a practical sense, I'm in Virginia, DF is in South Carolina, and our families are in Indiana. So, no matter what, there's a destination wedding. And this way, we got a planner to help us through the process so I don't have to try to keep in touch with all those vendors in another state!

On the other side, we both love Disney! At one point I came up with other location options and both DF and my mother looked horrified that it might not be Disney, so I was quickly overruled! It allows us to have a small, special wedding and a honeymoon all in one. For the same amount as 30 people and a vintage theme in DW, I could have 150 and no decorations in Indiana. This way, our closest family will be there, and it certainly will be "magical".
