Why did you sell?

For those who have sold their DVC contracts, I am asking out of curiosity, why you sold.

Several years ago, when my son started university and I separated from my husband (it was a busy year) I sold my small BLT contract in a panic because I was worried about money. I could kick myself now, but hey life happens, you make the best decision you can with the information you have at the time. I'm not in the group that would sell it all though. I'm very happy with DVC.

I love your views on this stuff! Quick question that I have always wanted to get a feel for. When you rent points to others, how much "breakage" is there in terms of points left over after renting out and what do you do with those? Do the various brokers / middlemen agree to use at least X% of the points you have available for rent?

What I did was rent/transfer the full amount I had to another member I found on the rent/trade board. I didn't want to deal with multiple small reservations, so I put in my post that I wanted to get rid of all of my points. I was getting cash for a trip to London that was scheduled for this month. Needless to say that didn't happen, but I was able to use this year's points to schedule a stay at HHI over the same dates. We have never been, but I am very excited to try it.

We have 4 contracts at VWL(Im old school, refuse to to call it Boulder Ridge Villas)and one at BWV. Though we haven't sold, we have considered selling the BWV points, but only to turn around and use those funds towards a BLT contract.

Though I love the proximity to Epcot(mostly purchased there for the F & W festival) and HS at BWV, it has worn on us a bit when all the conventioneers spill over from Swan and Dolphin to the BW area. No disrespect to the folks staying at S&D as many are just like the rest of us, just enjoying WDW. But we have experienced the boisterous attitudes of convention folks one too many times, and even witnessed a fight about to break out had security not showed in time. Its WDW folks, a family destination, cmon man!!

So, someday we may see the BWV contract, but as mentioned, only to purchase BLT. It will take a bit longer, but we can catch a couple monorails to Epcot for F&W fest
