Why did you join DVC?

I stayed in an OKW 2 bedroom with friends in March 1999 and fell in love with it. At the time, I was going to WDW with my mom once or twice a year. I thought that it would be great for us to stay in a 1 bedroom on our trips. I bought 6 months later. We had 5 1/2 years of great trips before she passed away from breast cancer. Now I go solo or with friends. Never regretted it!

1) We wanted to go to Walt Disney World at least once a year.
2) After staying in all levels of resorts we realized we only wanted to stay at deluxe resorts.
3) "pre-paying" for vacations meant we would be more likely to go. (Life can be hectic and expensive. Without DVC we would have skipped so many vacations due to lack of time, money, etc. Thank goodness we made memories instead!!!!)

We wanted to go to Disney at least once a year, but we live in Florida so we end up going multiple times.

I had always wanted to stay at The Grand Floridian. When I finally went for the first time I knew I wouldn't be able to afford it all the time.

I liked the idea of pre-paying for at least the lodging at Disney. With that already bought, I knew we wouldn't be prone to skipping vacations.

Now tomorrow we are coming up on our very first stay at VGF! Can't wait!!

We had been going to WDW twice a year staying in the Deluxe category back in the 90's. In an effort to reduce costs we did a couple of stays in the Moderate category but missed the room and other features, so in 2000 we did a tour of Villas at the Wilderness Lodge and bought in direct from DVC. Over the years we added on points at Old Key West and worked our way up to 585 points via the resale market. Then in 2010 we purchase a second home in central Florida and sold off all but 210 points at Old Key West.

I actually bought my DVC points without ever going on a tour. In Oct. 2004, I stayed at Pop Century, and though I liked it, I didn't want to spend the bulk of my vacations staying at the value resorts, which I figured would be what I could most easily afford at that time. I did have some money sitting in the banks, so I called DVC a few days after arriving home to inquire about it. The guide I spoke with tried to push SSR resort on me, but I knew that it wasn't the right resort for me. She tried to tell me I would be able to get any resort I wanted at the 7 month window, but logic told me that wasn't true (supply and demand). Though she pushed hard to sell me SSR, I stayed firm, and said, "If you had Boardwalk or Beach Club points, I'd buy them right now." She looked, and she did have Boardwalk points, so I bought them (and have added more points three times since). Best thing I've ever done for myself.

DH grew up going to Disney World every year. We went on our honeymoon and it was great. We took the boys when they were 5 and it was not so great. Sitting in a dark room while the boys were trying to nap was not fun. When DH said that he wanted to take the boys every year, I knew that I had to find a better way. I love the one bedrooms.

1. In 2006, I new I was not going to buy a house in the NY market because it was very expensive, so I went with the next best thing.
2. Quality of life.
3. Vacation every year.
4. I wanted to do something that my future self would thank me for (great for kids, family, spouse, memories).
5. Expensive hotel prices.
6. Convenience.
