Why did you choose Disney?

DH and I are trying to plan our real wedding (married at a town hall in Denmark) and are considering Disney, but my family is being stubborn. I have already pencilled our date in with Disney for Jan 2010 but I am now torn between Disney or a fall wedding with the leaves in New England. So, I was wondering why everyone chose Disney. We are having guests from Europe so I was wondering which option you think they may like more and why I should go with my gut feeling of Disney.

If I could afford a downtown, black-tie soiree with an orchestra and chocolate fountain, I would have my wedding in Chicago.

But what I can afford would be a wedding in a hotel by the airport on a Thursday with rubber chicken and a DJ who is secretly laughing while me and DF cringe through 'the electric slide'.

For me, if I am gonna spend the money on a wedding, it might as well be something I'd have fun at. I will have fun at Disney with my closest family and friends. I will not have fun at a the type of Chicago wedding I can afford.

Well said!

This was one of our main reasons too. Putting aside our love for the Disney parks and even our desire to have a unique and memorable wedding, we got SO much more for our money at Disney than we would have in Los Angeles.

Go with your gut - I've heard too many stories of people who regret not having the wedding they wanted because other people pressured them into something else. :thumbsup2

For me, ever since I was a little girl I have always dreamed of having a fairytale wedding at Disney!

Ours was either India or USA - our favourite places. We thought about a Las Vegas wedding (Marilyn and Elvis) which is very us but not so my Mom and she and my Dad are the 'we wouldn't get married without them being there' people.

We went through a few options with both India and Las Vegas but as soon as we mentioned Disney it was a no-brainer. It felt so right to be getting married there that I can't believe we thought of somewhere else.

Go with your gut feeling as that will be the one you really want :thumbsup2

DF and I had trouble making the Disney decision too. We don't live near either of our families anymore, and we didn't want to have our wedding reception in a fire hall back home. We looked into places we liked around our area, but we'd practically be spending the same on a wedding here that we would at Disney. We're also considering this a big family vacation for our families, who haven't been to Disney in quite a while. Luckily our families have been pretty receptive to the idea!

Don't forget that in the end, this is a day for you and your DF to celebrate the beginning of your new life together. And while it's nice to consider what your family would prefer, this is YOUR wedding. Hopefully you'll only have one, so go ahead and make it the wedding of your dreams!

Good luck with your decision making!

For me it's not so much a money thing, it's a quality thing.
There's just no where nice here :confused3 The only place in town that I like my DF doesn't like.
The photographers are subpar, and if you compare wedding photos of all of the people who have been married in this town, regardless of the photographer, they all look exactly the same... :sad2:
Make up artists are ok, but not as good as I have in mind...
For food you have a choice of chicken or steak... probably with mashed potato on the side and asparagas to make it look fancy :headache: :rotfl:
I'm still thinking of doing the same thing for Disney, but I'm really thinking of the Ipod set up, or maybe even my laptop, and letting my brother work it. He'd probably enjoy that better then sitting around. There's no way I'd use a local DJ, or band come to that...

Ok, whinge over. Now that I've gotten that all off my chest, it will come to the stage where the AU$ wont get any better and I'll be stuck with it any way...

For me it has been my dream since I was little. Plus, it's such a great atmosphere. Not only do your guests get to come and witness your wedding, they get a vacation out of it as well! :) Also, for what you pay, the service you get is amazing, and I've never heard about a bad Disney wedding :thumbsup2

I had it planned since I was 6 and was lucky enough to find a man who was okay with whatever I wanted!! :lovestruc

We choose Disney because of all that we can get for the money. For just a planner around here it is $$$. Plus a standard wedding/reception around here is country club, dj/ huge bar bill...All the same old same old for what we are spending at Disney. How many people get to get married in Italy and then later that night have a dessert party with fireworks?

I can't wait for all the guests to just see how fab a Disney wedding can be. I know alot are thinking it will be cheesy. At a family dinner yesterday, we had a few people laugh when we said where it will be.

Cause I hate NJ..photographers are better and cheaper down in FL...DIsney World is our favoite..how awesome is it to say that I got married in WDW. They take care of everything for you which means less stress.

Not to knock New England, because I'm a loyal NE person, but it's sometimes hard to get a good fall wedding here. The leaves can come in earlier or later in the season, and you end up with green or no leaves in your pictures. I would love a New England wedding.. in the summer... on Cape Cod... :lovestruc but other than the weather and foliage unpredictablity there's price and Good Golly Miss Molly, do we know how to run up a tab here! Even a small wedding in Maine costs more than a larger wedding in WDW.

We decided on our DFTW for this and other reasons. My family is spread out throughout the country and it was actually less expensive to get them all to Orlando than to Northern Maine. Even the ones who live in Massachusetts. Go figure.

I completely understand your questioning process! But it boils down to this...this one day called our WEDDING is one of the most important days to any relationship. So why not go big?!!! DFTW has perfected weddings and I must say as the Future Bride I am not feeling any of the effects of the wedding planning stress...other than being indecisive. You have your own personal wedding planner (w/ no extra cost) and you really can have whatever you want AND MORE for the special day we call our wedding! Do what makes you happy and gitty when you think about I'M GETTING MARRIED AT DISNEY WORLD! not many people can say that!

I saw a special about disney weddings many years ago. I decided I wanted to get married at Disney. I was lucky and didn't need to discuss where I wanted to get married. We told everyone and they were all so excited!! If people have to travel it might as well be someplace fun! It's sort of becoming the norm in my family to have destination weddings, two Vegas and one DL wedding... I can't wait to hear where the next one will be.

I first went to WDW when I was 16 with my friend and her family and saw the wedding pavilion as we made our way to Magic Kingdom. I decided thats where I wanted to get married.

My family hated the idea and I nearly had a big white wedding in England, which I totally hated the thought of. Finally they gave in and 12 years later I had the wedding of my dreams.

My mum now tells me its the best thing I ever talked her into.

I actually started planning up here and my parents were paying for everything.

I have always thought it was cool to get married in Disney especially since I have been there every year (sometimes twice or more)! Well, I went there in March and saw a wedding at Sunset Point at the Poly and it was an escape wedding. I LOVED it! I thought it was gorgeous and a great idea since the idea of the wedding in Jersey was stressing me out.

I told my parents and they said ok well if you get married in Disney, we will give you and Bobby $20,000.00 to keep!! (They actually got off cheaper doing this!) So I was like ok!! (obviously) Bobby and I loved the idea and so we started off with an Escape wedding but more of our close family wanted to attend so we ended up with a Wishes wedding and spending MUCH more than we anticipated but even with that we are getting so much more with our money than we could have here in Jersey plus we pocket $20,000.00!! :rotfl:

Now that I am planning I think these are the best points to make on having a Disney wedding.

1) You have a wedding planner! (Very important to me)
2) You have some of the best vendors in the Orlando area to choose from.
3) You have GREAT food and the chef's are trained much better than they would be at a local country club or reception hall.
4) ITS DISNEY!

My DH chose Disney...

A few weeks after we met and started talking he mentioned the Disney wedding and gave me the link to the website.

I thought he was off his rocker! I couldn't afford a $60k wedding. (I think that was the price of one of the sample weddings or something...)

Later, when we decided to really plan our wedding we realized that since we are pretty much "alone" where we live (his parents passed years ago and mine live several hundred miles away)...our wedding should be very "US". Disney fit that bill to a tee!

When we looked into it, the price was right too! We had the most intimate of intimate weddings (now called "Escape"). It was just us...in the most magical place in the world.

we chose disney for our VR because our first trip was on our HM and we have had many wonderful trips with family since. It is pretty much our vacation spot. It was an easy choice. It is Us!

My DF and I actually met at WDW while I was on vacation. He lived in Florida and I lived in Maine. Our first official date was at the Magic Kingdom. We did the long distance thing for a while and whenever it was my turn to travel we always went to Disney. Eventually he moved to make and we still took annual trips to Disney. October of 2007 he proposed just after the Wishes Fireworks. The only place for us to get married is at Disney becuase that is where all of OUR magic started.:wizard:

My DF & I both grew up in FL about 2 hrs fromo Disney. My family goes every year & we love it (although I never thought of getting married there). My DF has not been in 15 yrs & really is antidisney.

we wanted a nice beach wedding at great resort off Longboat Key. Once we had a price quote for 150 people it was over $70,000!! Way too much.

So we started looking at other places and my Dad showed us the Disney website, we went down there & loved the WP, and I always love the GF!

Good Price, quality, location, and the ability to offer our guests a vacation not just a wedding! all of those things plus really not having to do anything bc your planner handles it! SO worth it! You get to go enjoy yourself and just show up!

Good luck!
