Why did they ruin it!?

Yes, this is a rant... a silly rant but a rant none the less.

WHY do people have to take one of my favorite book series and RUIN IT to make a TV show?!? I am talking about the Dresden Files on Sci-Fi. It just frustrates me that they make so many changes about key aspects of the books.

Yea, that's all I have... just had to vent

dont watch it

LMAO... tonight was the first night I have actually been home TO watch it, so I didn't realize how badly they have changed it. Trust me, I gave it about 15 mins and turned it OFF. I could not stand it!

I have to say that the Dresden Files television series is much better IMHO than the books, which I thought were utter trash.

Diff'rent strokes....

DH and I LOVE the Dresden books. I'm currently reading Proven Guilty. While I agree that there is a lot left out or changed in the TV show, I fully expected this to occur, but just not to the extent that they have. We watch the show for entertainment value only. We didn't expect to see the books stories shown, but to follow the structure of the books.

Last night I just kept waiting for them to pan down and show us Butters feet. I wanted to see the bunnies. And they really need to be playing polka while they were in the morge. There are sooo many small details that they could put into the scripts that would make fans of the books enjoy the TV show.

My DH loves the books, and I enjoyed the first show (the only one I remembered to watch) but DH says the books are much better

I like the show quite a bit and have read all of the books. I even prefer Bob in the show as opposed to the series, to DH's chagrin.

My only issue is the fact he has the hockey stick and drum stick, and the fact he looks people in the eye.

YEah, what's with the hockey stick? I'm on the third book now, started reading them when I saw the previews for the show. The show is okay, it actually follows the books better than a lot of adaptations I've seen (Mary Higgins Clark anyone?) I was curious in that he was able to "finesse" the door lock last night, and where is the cat?

The 3rd book - is that the fairy one? Or maybe it was the 4th. I liked that one the best out of the series.

My Wife has read allt he books and really likes them. I have not read any of the books, but enjoy the show.

The hokey stick is his boom stick(think staff) and the drum stick was his wand. My wife said those are not his tools in the books, but I think it is a BRILLIANT idea!!!

My wives only complait is the black guy from last episode that is from teh coucil. She said he should be much more hateful to Harry.

Like I said I really enjoy the show. This show like many of book to tv/movie has to be changed!!! People don't seem to understand you have to cut stuff out and change stuff to fit in the tv world better. A 20 hour read needs to be an our show...obviously you have to pick and choose.

Like said above different strokes for different fokes.

The third one is Grave Peril, it's the one with the Nightmare (barbed wire around your spirit). Started out kinda like Ghostbusters, the ghost of the old lady in the hospital nursery. I put it down last week, and the kids put it somewhere, I just found it today. I'll probably finish it tonight. It's the one where his sometime girlfriend gets bitten by the vampires.

I'm not sure if I like how they changed Murphy either. I mean come on, did they have to sex the character up like that?

I'm his DW, so I figured I'd clean up his post! :rolleyes2

The hockey stick is NOT a broom (I have NO idea where DH got that! :lmao: ) I think it's what the book calls his "blasting rod." In the books that's what he uses, not a wand and/or a broom. A blasting rod and a cane/sword.

I LOVE the books. I'm re-reading them now. I honestly think I like the show, because I read the books a long time ago and haven't been doing too much comparing.

I think the actor is an AWESOME Harry and Murph isn't too bad either. I hope they keep doing episodes that really don't relate to the books at all though, bc I hate comparing the two.

I just want them to bring in Thomas

Yes, the council guy is bugging me and I like/hate Bob (he's just not funny enough on the show, but what I really want is the Blue Beetle!! Oh and it bugs me that Harry can be around electricity and not mess it up (tho last night's episode alluded to that a little).

I wonder if Michael and Susan will ever come in. I think they might push the Harry/Murphy relationship a lot faster than the books which is good INMO.

Now I want a new book! :teeth:

Are you joking? She's pretty much exactly what I pictured? Doesn't seem 'sexed up' at all to me? It's funny how different people get different ideas from the same book!

I mean in the books she's a petite kick-&$$ blonde with all these martial arts moves :) I like the banter between them it's just in the first book I think they refer to her as middle aged. of course I'm middle aged now  (43). I agree about the Blue Beetle and the electricity, although in last nights he had candles in his place, but when they had him drugged they had electric appliances all over that house. I sense that the shows take a little bit if the plots of the books and embelish them.

I know you have to take stuff out of books for TV shows and movies. I honestly do not mind that as I read/watch Harry Potter, read/watch Lord of the Rings, and read/watch Narnia. What I have an issue with is changing character concepts and BASIC concepts from the book that could easily be done the original (and in my mind correct) way. The Blue Beetle, Wizards + electricity, Bob the SKULL, KARRIN Murphy (a blond petite woman), Morgan and his obsession to catch Harry breaking the laws of magic, the blasting rod/cane sword/staff combo, ect ect. THAT is what bothers me.

I guess I will just keep to my books LOL. I am glad some people enjoy the show, I really am. I am all for supporting Jim Butcher and I was so happy to SEE this series made into a show. It is just not for me I guess. So likes I said, I will keep to the books myself and PRAY they don't make shows out of the books by Laurell K Hamilton or Kelley Armstrong or Kim Harrison so I don't have to rant about them :rotfl:

I knew what the drum stick and the hockey stick were. I just don't like how they used a drum stick and a hockey stick

I hope they bring in Thomas, and Michael.
