Why did they remove the period "." from VMK Dictionary

Hi,

Slinkyman and I discovered today that you no longer can use a period on VMK. Does anyone have any insight why this is so? It is kind of crazy. I use periods when writing messages to friends to end sentences. I also use them when writing room descriptions. Now all of our descriptions will be one long run on and on and on sentence....

It is because it helps in dictionary dancing. By putting a '.' between words to make new ones

That is exactly the reason, but I do not think it is a knee jerk reaction as some very inappropriate words were being made by that "." .


To me it is sad that the mass players who play by the rules have to suffer because of the actions of a few "bad"apples.

We have lost the ability to use common innocent words, trading ability of items because people make code generators to in essence steal virtual items.

While all that makes me sad and sorry, I understand where VMK staff is coming from and sympathize with them.

I also think for the most part they are doing an excellant job. In VMK just like here they will never be able to please everyone.

Keep up the Good Work VMK and THANK YOUfor trying to keep VMK a safe and fun enviroment.

Hi,

I must agree with Mal they they are doing a wonderful job and I respect all that they do. Sad part of all this is that those players that abuse the system will just continue to find new ways to do so. If they want to say something bad they will. Bearz and I were call "as" in a pirates game last night several rimes by 1 player whom we did report. So it will always happen just have to keep reporting them until they get caught. The period gone will be annoying but I will get use to it. The funny thing is there are other punctuation marks that work to combine words so we may soon see no punctuation marks

It does get very frustrating to talk to someone and you can only use half of the english language . The worst part of it is ,the rude people will just find a different way to say rude things . when you play this game you have to learn a whole new language . such as I have tree oh oh credits = 300 credits. LOL what next!

I wish I had seen this thread before wrestling with my signature this morning! I couldn't for the life of me figure out which "word" I was using was inappropriate. It was only when I finally deleted the period that my new signature was accepted.

I'm sorry, but removing the period is just so dumbo. As others have stated, it impacts everyone on VMK - while the abusers will only find other ways to do their thing.

Expect the "!" to be the next to go...

I'm all for them trying to keep VMK a safe environment, and I think it is great that they are putting such an effort into protecting children. The team has been doing an amazing job!

But I really think that removing a simple period it going way too far. It is going to be way too frustrating to write messages and room descriptions. This really only leads me to believe that next, we won't be able to talk at all. I'm waiting for a list of words to select from... "Hello" "How are you?" "Good" "Goodbye" "Trade?" "Yes" and "No." This is just absurd, imho.

This angers me. I like to use proper grammar in VMK, I end my sentences with periods when trying to make a point. My friends call me A.A., short for AbsoluteAwesome. I use ".." to break silences. I wrote to contact us already. I know that they are trying to prevent dictionary dancing, but it won't be successful.

Why don't they just make ". " (period then 2 spaces) acceptable in the dictionary. That way you can still enforce good use of punctuation, and eliminate periods as a use for dictionary dancing.

They've already eliminated the double space, so wouldn't it just be that with a single space?

They can keep -- (spaces) and . out of the dictionary, but put in .-- or even .-
