I made reservations today for a character lunch at Crystal Palace today, and the reservationist asked me if we were celebrating anything. It's my son's 1st birthday. Are they going to do something special for him? All my other reservations were made online, so this is the first time I encountered this question. I have heard that line over and over "What are you celebrating" but don't know what it provides... Thanks!!!!!

Nearly everyone is celebrating something or other, so it's really luck of the draw whether your server will have the time or the inclination to do anything special for your son.

Go in with no expectations, and you may be pleasantly surprised if they do something. If they don't, you won't be disappointed. :)
Happy Birthday to your little guy, though! :bday: party:

we ate at CP on my DD's birthday this Monday. The table will be decorated with Mickey head confetti and a streamer. He will get a cupcake and a card signed by the characters! Have fun!:wizard:

. . . maybe
. . . this does not always happen

. . . it all depends upon the CM's that day
. . . there is no requirement to do things for celebrations
. . . it is solely at the CM's discretion and energy

perhaps, but the day we were there, there were many, many tables with the streamer and confetti on them. Every time we have been for a birthday, we have received the cupcake and card. I do understand it is not a 100% guarantee.

Your right, it does depend on the server that day....We went to WDW in March for our 10 yr. Anniversary (celebrated with the kids) and some restaurants acknowledged our anniversary and some really didn't care at all, except with the waitstaff saying "Happy Anniversary". We got decorated tables at Cali Grill and Tony Town Square. When we went to Artist Point they gave us a personalized menu for each one of us in our party (4). We are going again this December to celebrate my 36th birthday and have been noting it on every ressie that I make (ADR and Resort), if it is acknowledged then YAY, if not, then oh well, I am still in Disney celebrating my B-day with my family.

Happy Birthday to your son. I imagine Disney will do something to make his day special. Either way, enjoy the meal and the birthday!:cool1:

1900 Park Fare was announcing birthday's and singing and giving a birthday cupcake.

Thanks everyone! That would be great if they did bring a cupcake for him. It would be his first!!!! Can't wait to go :)

All the above comments are true about no guarantees. I would advise you to tell the hostess when you check in that you have a birthday, and then also tell your server you have a birthday. That way, everyone knows and you won't feel disappointed later.

Have a wonderful trip.
