Why did the animals leave the petting farm?

Hi all!

I just had a nagging question in my brain since we were last at WDW. We stayed at the Fort and I was really looking forward to having my girls see the animals in the petting zoo, but they were gone! I now know that they were moved to AK, but does anyone know why?

This is such a great memory to me. I have been visiting FW w/ my family literally since birth. I have a really cute picture of myself when I was 18 months old at the petting zoo too. If I can get to a scanner anytime soon I will try to post it for nostalgia's sake!

I blame it on the bacteria in Bay Lake. It seems that gets the blame for everything closing at WDW.

Seem to recall that the animals went because of health liability. Children getting sick after visiting petting zoos and sanitary precautions not taken when leaving.
