Why Deluxe?

Location, location, location.

That and the beautiful themes.

Oh, and the restaurants.

And for me, indoor hallways.

The hotel feel, not motel feel. I have only stayed at WL, AKL, and the contemporary, but many times at each. I am currently in my hotel room at POFQ, my first moderate ever and it is okay, but nothing like the smell and feel of having a hotel, not a motel feel. With the fifty or so gecko that have crossed my path today and the visible slats in the door where I can see sunlight, I know I won't be sleeping well tonight. We really wanted to try it here, so we booked it on the night before our cruise. I would really book a deluxe if you can swing it.

As a DVC member I never thought I would say this but for an adults only trip, I would stay at POR and drink the extra $1000. How much time will you spend in the room and do you really need the extra space that a deluxe or villa will offer you ? POR has direct boat access to DS and good bus access to the various parks. Do you really care about a better pool slide ? I say save the $1000 (spend it on booze) and you will still enjoy yourselves just as well.

If boozing is a big part of your vacation, that's a good stretegy. We'd rather spend our free time at a great pool or relaxing in a really nice room, but to each his own.

I need some help. My DH and I are planning an adults only trip this summer. We are currently booked at POR but have been considering a deluxe. We have never stayed deluxe and the cost to go from a moderate to a deluxe is at least $1000. Is a deluxe that much better than a moderate? Please give me your thoughts. Thanks
We like deluxe when possible because at this point in time they do not have animals outside of your balcony at any moderate or value resorts ;)

That said, I would not skip a trip if I could only afford value. I would be even more inclined to go deluxe on adults only trip

A deluxe may not necessarily cost a lot more money if you shop around (also depending on your date). I had a POR preferred room booked yesterday for mid-August with a pin code that Disney sent me and on a whim this morning decided to check with my travel agent to see what she had available. I didn't think she would have anything that early before Labor Day, but we got lucky. You can google magical Labor Day weekend deals to find the travel agent-they are well known on these boards or pm me. We ended up switching to the Poly, saving $100 on our package and they gave us a free bonus feature for buying our tickets as a package (can choose from a water park, Disney Quest or free round of golf), which is about $320 in free water park tickets for our family of 5. Also, I saw some pretty good rates for the AKL on Orbitz yesterday and there is a 15% off coupon code.

It really comes down to what's important to you...

For us, it's all about the location. I have young kids, we take midday breaks. Any resort that requires minimal bus rides is HUGE to us.

I also enjoy having a balcony to sit out and relax on. The pools are usually nicer and of course indoor halls are nice.

If you're thinking of doing deluxe but can't stomach the price you could look into renting dvc points or swan/dolphin. Both are much cheaper than reg deluxe rack rates. If you mean this summer... i think S&D has some sort of special going on now & may be hard to find dvc avail this short notice.

We have always been mod people, priced out of deluxe...at least what I'm willing to pay. However, to get our deluxe fix we've started renting dvc points and using swan and dolphin. These have been costing a little more than a mod, but not nearly as much if we rented directly from Disney. To us, it's really about the location. I'm willing to shell out more for an epcot or mk resort. Now, i have no interest in paying more $ to stay at SSR or OKW, I'm sure they're nice but I'd choose a mod over those. And our fave mod is POFQ, really the only one I'm interested in these days :)

Our Deluxe stays are all at Board Walk or Swan/Dolphin so as previously mentioned, location is huge. We walk to half the parks, BW is practically a park (to us) itself and the theming is great. Hint, if you stay on rented DVC points you can end up paying less that a Mod, we've actually stayed at BW many times for less per night than a Value.

WE like moderate and deluxe resorts in different ways. Overall, the deluxe is worth the extra $$$ in our opinion

We really enjoy the balconies, proximity to parks, larger rooms and variety of dining options in the deluxe resorts. The rooms are more comfortable to sit around in. We also enjoy club level.

I agree with Babsy. I think the mods are great, but our preference is deluxe and the extra cost is worth it (to us) for the reasons stated above.

Why deluxe for me?

I'm a snob. :rotfl2:

Seriously, for the same reason many have stated. I am not a park commando and actually enjoy spending some of my day at the resort. I like having a balcony, I prefer more means of transportation other than a bus, I don't like long spread out properties, I prefer hallways and don't like outside doors (motel style), I enjoy the locations of the deluxe resorts, I enjoy the TS restaurants (not a food court fan) and a gym is important for me as well. Oh, and now that I've bought into DVC that helps seal the deal for me as well. :goodvibes

We're DVC members and mostly stay in deluxe with our points. That said, we have zero problems staying moderate for short stays, or even value (POP only) for one or two nights....just to get that "Disney overload" feeling. We're within easy driving distance, so long weekend trips aren't out of the ordinary for us.

My family & I have stayed at resorts of all levels. We enjoy the deluxe accommodations for their proximity to the resorts, restaurants, pools, and did I say restaurants? We enjoyed AoA, CBR, POR... But for me, the food courts were too big. I like to sit & relax when grabbing a QS b'fast & find the activity of the larger food courts over stimulating in the early morning hours. That's just me, though. I agree w/ HeyKoolaid's take on taking the ferry from WL. There's something special about taking the ferry, seeing the Electric Water Parade, watching fireworks from the property and having the MK in view... You'll get this at CR, the Poly & GF also. If it's a 1 shot deal, it's not to be missed. Happy travels!!

We stayed mostly of the time at Deluxe especially AKL , we tried last summer AOA suite and was a terrible mistake :( not even my little one like it, was really hot and no hallways , no shades and the beds were terrible!
But if you go for a deluxe take advantage of all the amenities ! Campfire , activities, pool , etc....
Once you go deluxe it's hard like mod or value

I've stayed at all 3 levels. Personally, I'd take the extra $1000 and spend it on some special experiences: Victoria and Alberts, Club Villian, spa session etc...

It really depends on where you want to spend your money. My favorite resort is the Grand Floridian and last time we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge. We love splurging and yes, it is a world of difference in the deluxe resorts. However, we have stayed a Pop and Caribbean when we knew we were going to spend the majority of the trip in the parks. It is completely up to you. But all in all, deluxe is worth the money.

I've stayed at all of the mods as well as AKL and also the Dolphin (which although not Disney I see it as deluxe). My advice would be that if money no option go deluxe if you have to think about it go moderate. Coronado is a good choice if you're wanting fitness centre / hair salon, perhaps that could be your compromise? Why not look at cost of upgrading room at a mod resort as another alternative.

We go back & forth between mods and deluxe. I love POR, the grounds are beautiful. And the boat to DTD is very nice.
But because we do spend time at our resort, we aren't park commandos, I like having indoor corridors and nobody walking in front of our windows. And enjoy a balcony, and not having the clothing rack in the bathroom. That is one of the things that bugs me at a moderate. The clothes rack in the bathroom. I like having a real closet. And not having to keep blinds closed because of foot traffic going by my window.
Proximity to parks is another perk.

We are more park than resort people and enjoyed our time at POFQ much more than at Beach Club during our split stay in January. Yes we loved being able to walk to EPCOT and HS but it was not worth the added expense.
