Although I have been a member of DVC since 2007, I still just don't understand this rule. Can someone please explain it to me?
Is there some logic behind it or is it just "because I said so"?

You can reserve DVC accomodations and travel within the last 4 months of your UY. We have done it.

The "last 4 months" rule refers to certain trades outside of DVC. I'm not certain which ones, but I'm sure someone will chime in who knows.

as stated, you CAN reserve and travel when using pts for DVC stays.

when you have to trade out of DVC, DVC needs time to turn your pts into cash to pay for your trade. that's why you have to plan in advance if you want to trade out.

You can't reserve the places DVC needs to sell your Villa stay for in order to pay for whatever you are using- if you want to use points in a way where DVC points are used as is you can do that- I believe it is because DVC needs time to rent out the villa you would be using to pay for your trip (Cruising, Disney Hotels, ect).

I have always thought that was worded and explained poorly. For some time, I thought the same thing - that you can not travel / make reservations for the last 4 months. However, it never affected my vacation.

That makes sense. I think they take over your points at the time you book your non DVC stay. So it would tie their hands if they got points that were getting close to expiring. Since people tend to plan a Disney trip well in advance, I guess they need the four months to rent the unit for cash.
