Why can't my husband follow a simple grocery list?

That is too funny!! It's the same here. Actually it's not that he'll mess up the list I give him. He'll get everything on the list exactly as asked for, but then he'll some back with a whole bunch more!! He'll take a list with 5 items on it and come back with 5 bags of groceries!!! :rotfl2:

That's what my DH does! He'll head up to the drug store to get a gallon of milk, and end up spending something like $110! You should see what happens when he goes to Costco alone! After his last solo trip, I told him he's not allowed to shop at Costco without me anymore!

DH did buy the equivalent of 24 single rolls, so give him credit. Now you will just have to make due with them until they are gone (they don't fit ours either) or return them. I am thankful when DH does a job that I would need to do. I accept that he is an individual and a free thinker. DH always gets what I wanted, just not always in the form that I wanted it. DH also has a few thing "jump" into the cart that he then buys. Got to love him.

Funny!

Not really grocery related, but last Christmas my DH bought me not one, but two sets of long sleeved, long pant jammies. Now, I am always hot and only wear sleeveless gowns to bed. He knows this..we fight over the thermostat all the time :rotfl: Duh...we have been married 11 years and when have you ever seen me wear long pants and long sleeves to bed???? :confused3 I can barely stand to wear long sleeves outside in the winter and we used to live in North Dakota, for gosh sakes!

To top it off, I didn't want to hurt his feelings, so I kept them and washed them. I saw the receipt a week later...$40 each at an upscale store. Oh my!
Just remove the sleeves and shorten the pants and then you will stay cool in your $40 PJs. :lmao:

You think deviating from "the list" is bad, have you ever asked him to empty the dishwasher?!?! I find things in the oddest places! Sometimes I'm like "Are you new here?"
When DH unloads the DW I do find things all over. When I asked him why they were not put where he got it from, he told me because the place he found them at was not where they should be. Yeah right. :teeth:

The problem with this thread is your DH's are whipped. Its woman's work to shop and your DH's should refuse to do it and send you on your way to do the shopping after you make him a sandwich!! :teeth:

It's because they have what I call, quite fondly, Boy Brains!!! My dh knows exactly what things we use routinely but for some reason, once he gets inside that grocery store, he goes wild!!! I no longer let him go. He can't even go to a White Hen and come home with just milk!!!
And don't get me started on the dishwasher. He unloads it almost every night...I don't ask him to, he just does it because he can't sit still (very type A!!!). But when he puts dirty dishes in...he puts them all in the wrong spots. Wouldn't you think, that after unloading it every night for years, he would know where the dirty ones go??? Does he think that they get all rearranged in there during the wash cycle?? I have to follow behind him and put the stuff in the correct spots, otherwise nothing will fit and it will only hold half the dishes it should!!! But, at least he's doing something helpful!!!!

my dh hates grocery shopping, so i just do it myself. that way i never have to worry about there being a problem. :rotfl:

as far as the dishwasher - i take out the clean stuff and he puts in the dirty. the few times he has unloaded the clean dishes they ended up all over the place too. :confused3

Funny... if you just read these boards, you'd think men had the IQ of a turnip and women were all geniuses. I'll just be over in the corner drooling and scratching myself while my 7 year old daughter does the shopping. I clearly can't handle such responsibility :teeth:

Would you like me to get my DH to pick you up some tissues and Benadryl? :confused3 ...as soon as I draw him a map of where the grocery store is  ...by the way, I like to think he has the IQ more of a plantain :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

My husband is willing to run to the store for a few things for me, which I'm grateful for, but no matter what I ask for, he will buy the BIGGEST size there is. One time I asked for a jar of minced garlic (too lazy to mince myself....I know) I expected a little jar about the size of a can of tuna and he brings home this GI-NORMOUS mayonaise size jug of minced garlic. What on earth did he think I was cooking for dinner??? I had to throw most of it out. I couldn't use it all before it got too old.

OK, folks, you do realize that the Mega roll doesn't STAY Mega forever. It's not the width of the roll that's Mega, it's the roundness, and after you use some of it up, it becomes smaller and easily fits on any dispenser. It should fit on your standard dispenser after a few days, although I found that it still fit my standard dispenser (bought about three years ago from Lowe's) right away. It's a little tight for the first few uses, but nothing that's impossible to overcome. And if you didn't get an extender, go to a store that carries the packages that have them and buy one. We're talking toilet paper here, not champagne and caviar!!

I LOVE the Mega roll - I always have TP now - hated buying those small rolls and having to get a new one every day or two (we obviously go through a lot!!)

That's me - proud defender of the Mega roll!!!!!

The problem we have is with the extender. We have ceramic tile holders and then the extender is on the roll falls off the extender on one side and gets stuck. I tried to alter the extender (with washers) and it now did not fall between it but would not move. So the extenders are in the trash and we only buy the double rolls.

DH has never bought the right item from the grocery store. I'm not generalizing all men.

Once I sent him out to buy Cheez Whiz. I told him the brand, the colour of the container, and even the weight. He brought me parmesan cheese :confused3

slightly ot, but this reminds me of the time i got into a fight with the person at customer service at the grocery store becaus ehe insisted cheese whiz was that spray cheese in a can. finally i just gave up and asked where the velveeta was. go figure - the cheese whiz was right next to it.

DH is a very capable person, in general, but he's clueless about loading the dishwasher. :confused3 One of my favorite lines I use on him (and my kids!) is "How do you get through the day???"

DH does most of the grocery shopping...he doesn't mind, and I hate it...but I've started taking over mostly because, as time goes on, he stocks up more and more on cookies and chips. He's skinny, I'm fat (and on Weight Watchers now), and the kids certainly don't need that junk. I went shopping yesterday, and refused to buy the junk food on the list!

Took me a long time to train him to buy the right TP, but we have an extender now, so crisis averted! :)

I bet he bought the mega rolls so that they would last more than one day. I don't know what it is with women and the amount of tp used. ;)

To those who say their dh always comes home with the wrong item, I guess this would be like asking the dw to pick up a pound of 1.5 inch finishing nails. Just generalizing of course

Now the dishwasher is another story at our house! DH was banned from the dishwasher just last week. He has a horrible habit of putting dirty dishes in with the clean ones. He ALWAYS claims the little light was off that signals the CLEAN status. I have to ask him, was the little light off BEFORE or AFTER you had the door open for 5 minutes trying to cram your dirty dishes in the full machine?!?!?!? :confused3 (the light turns off once the door has been held open for 30 seconds). I got tired of having to rewash the dishes, so he's been completely banned from loading or unloading without expressed permission from me! :furious:

tina - we have little magnets that say clean and dirty that we put on the fridge for exactly that reason. :rotfl:
