why can't I just buy a Coke?

Found out on my last trip that the carts in the parks are phasing out offering any sort of carbonated soft drink. They are beginning to sell only water, juice, tea, lite lemonade and vitamin water. (Vitamin water at $3.75 a bottle by the way)

Was told by a cart vendor at Epcot that it is now necessary to go inside a store with a cooler if you want a Coke.

Those coolers don't keep the drinks all that cold. I'd like a Diet Coke that's been sitting in ice, please.

What's the deal? Another health thing? Making it so difficult to get your hands on a Coke in the park that you will give up and buy the vitamin water? Then what's with the free soft drinks at Club Cool?

How odd. I never thought Coca-Cola would push their VitaminWater that hard . . . guess I'll have to try that stuff after all.

$3.75 a bottle for vitamin water vs. $2 for a diet Coke, I think I know which one they'd rather see me buy.

I think Vitamin Water is a waste of money and tastes terrible. I don't need anyone to police my choices of drinks.

I heard this a few months ago from a reputable source. Disney wants to be healthy, blah blah blah.

I think it has to do more with profit than health. Even so I can't believe they're phasing out soda from the carts. Then again, if we settle at the cart we pay more money for our water, if we go into the store there is more merchandising.

I totally agree! Our DSIL will freak when he finds this out. He lives on cokes. Are there coolers with bottles of soda in most of the gift shops?

Ack! How ridiculous! I'm a total caffeine addict, and it is bad enough not being able to get my Mt Dew at Disney. If I can't get Cokes, I'm going to have one heck of a withdrawal headache!!

Unfortunately some of those so called vitamin waters have just as much or more sugar in them than coke does and they really aren't all that good for you. (Doctor talking about them on the news a couple of weeks ago).

I agree. Vitamin water is gross! They sell it where I work (in the employee break area) for 50 cents....and THAT is too much!:confused3

Ah ha! So I am right, it's more about the profits. I figured they weren't healthy. I read the calorie count on them once and remember thinking I'd do as well with a candy bar. :rotfl:

I wondered what was going on last week when every popcorn cart I went to in search of just a coke only to find water and vitamin water ..... which by the way I think vitamin water is a JOKE. I ended up going to a counter service location to stand in line to buy just a coke. So looks like next trip I will not only have to have cases of water shipped to the hotel but also a couple of cases of coke. I am all for Disney offering healthier options but if its your only choice- its not an option.

Vitamin water: Koolaid colored, sugar added water, with water soluable vitamins - water soluable vitamins that if your body doesnt need you just excrete them in your urine any way so you really are p*****g your money away. If you want vitamins.... eat your fruits and vegetables.

WTH? I agree that the Vitamin Water is nasty, even my kids won't touch it (after begging for it, lol). I wonder if this change also means that they won't let the people on the DDP use snack credits there since the VW costs so much more, lol!

so you mean to tell me if I want to get popcorn from a cart, I can't get an icy cold diet coke to go with it? Maybe they'll just take away the popcorn next because dentists are saying it's not good for your teeth...

I wonder who makes the decisions to pull the coke from the carts...I usually drink diet/caffeine free stuff, but when I have indigestion I need a coke....

I looked at the back of the vitamin water label: 50 calories per serving. Which is 50 calories more than a Diet Coke.

And I'd guess the bottle holds at least 2 servings.

We found a couple of kiosks in World Showcase that will still sell you a bottle of Coke.

It's bad enough that they don't sell Pepsi (sorry but I LOVE it) & now they're going to push vitamin water. I'll never waste money on that stuff. As previously stated - it tastes awful!

I'm not an expert on costs, but isn't it cheaper for Disney to serve pop out of the fountains? That might have something to do with it. Ehh, I like pop from the fountain better anyways.

Maybe cheaper from the fountains. But Coke in a bottle is easier to carry around the parks. You can take a bottle on the rides with you. You can't do that with a fountain cup.

In my own situation the car rental companies may win here, since I'll need to rent a car for at least a day to be able to run over to Publix and buy some bottles of Diet Coke if I can't get one otherwise.

(And the Hess gas station at Boardwalk will usually sell you 2 bottles of Coke for $2 if you can make it over there)

Thats the honest truth right there. I hate going out to eat at Disney anymore with Kari because she is the pickiest eater in the world, worst than most kids as she won't eat any meat besides a cheese burger, but even then those are on whole wheat buns.
They've changed the ingredients in the mac and cheese, so she won't eat that either.
They've changed the pizza to flat bread stuff, she won't eat that.
They've changed the fries, she's not a fan but will eat them.
All the things that she loved about disney she can't stand anymore, so now it's hard finding someplace to go with her. I have to ask for things like grilled cheese on white bread made with butter. Because if you order a kids grilled cheese, it's just toasted bread with a slice of cheese in the middle that is gross.

I am all for advocating for a healthier world with healthier kids. But a one week vacation to Disneyworld is not where people are going to change bad habits. When we go to Disneyworld it is a time where we do not keep track of calories and when we will let our kids have lots of treats. It just gets annoying when you have to share your food because your kids won't eat what is on the kids meals. Now if I want coke with my popcorn I have to stand in two lines. RIDICULOUS!!
