Why are you voting for Obama?

My husband and I have gone to several Obama rallys and have asked people why they are voting for Obama. We can not get any real good answer--we hear things like "He speaks well" and "He isn't old" and other things that really don't seem to constitute solid, grounded reasons why someone should be our presieent.

So, without any negative comments to anyone or any party, can you please give some good, grounded and educationaly based reasons as to why Obama would be a good choice for our next President?

Gosh, you've been to his rallies 'n heard him speak, you're not gonna decide for yourself?

From what I've been reading on many threads, apparently I'm voting Obama because I'm a Marxist, or a socialist, or I'm under his "spell", or I haven't taken the time to learn about his associations with terrorists and such, or I don't care about Obama being best buds with a terrorist, or because I just don't understand how dangerous he is, or because I don't know about his positions, or I don't know about his "real" positions, or....

Not me personally, but I know many people feel he's the least of two evils. I know many, many die hard Republicans that cannot and will not vote for McCain. Personally, I'm much more aligned with the Democrats stance on many issues and I can't stomach the thought of another 4 years like the last 8 we've had.

He is the candidate that I most closely agree with on the issues of this election.

He is by far the most well-educated candidate.

He is younger and has a much keener grasp of current technologies, which makes me trust that he will be better able and more willing to embrace new ways of doing things that aren't even invented yet.

If he has a chance to appoint a Supreme Court judge, I think he will choose in a way that makes it more likely that Roe v. Wade will continue to be upheld.

Those are just a few reasons.

For me it comes down to the issues. When it was Obama vs. Clinton in the primary, that was a hard decision for me as those two had very similar platforms. While there are some things that I like about McCain, I simply agree with Obama on more of the issues. Foreign policy, health care, the economy, the environment--these are all things I think Obama will handle better. It's really a matter of political perspective.

It's entirely fair for a conservative to have opposing views and vote for McCain. "I'm going to vote for Obama because he isn't old" or "I'm voting for McCain because Obama's a Muslim" are lousy reasons.

Yep, that's pretty much it for me. I also feel that we really do need a change. I feel that we need someone who will shake things up a bit. Someone who will look at things from a new perspective. I'm also basing part of my vote on the VP side of the ticket. If something were to happen to either McCain or Obama, who would I want stepping into the role of President. Without a doubt, my answer is Joe Biden.

Did you enjoy the rallies? I can't imagine wanting to go to a McCain/Palin rally if I wasn't voting for them.

And besides, what constitues a good reason to you? Being concerned about McCain's age isn't a valid reason? Being intelligent and a great orator aren't good reasons?

subscribing because I'm curious to know the answer too. The only thing I ever hear is I'm voting BO because of "that woman". I don't hear many postive responses about BO himself.

Because he's the remaining candidate whose views most closely mirror mine, and whom I have the faith to lead this country in the direction that I feel will make us most competitive on a world stage as far as economy, education, and healthcare.

I voted for Obama because the MSM told me it was the right thing to do. I don't have a clue what the issues are and it wouldn't matter if I did anyway because I wouldn't understand them. I am not capable of making up my own mind. I love terrorists and I am unpatriotic. I think that about sums it up.

:) No, I haven't been to ones where he speaks, but I have been to local college campuses and political gatherings where supports are there to pep rally people up. The people I spoke to were mostly college aged and were excited about change, but they couldn't specify what they wanted changed or how Obama was going to accomplish it.

Please, I didn't ask for random comments like this. I am trying to find some educated people who can give some good founded reasons.

:rotfl2: Thank you!! Exactly what they want to hear!

Educationally based reasons?

How about this?

Here is Obama's issues page. We support Obama because we have researched his position on issues that are important to us and decided that he is the candidate that we support.

Those are good, grounded reasons. I can't recall any Obama or McCain supporter on this board saying that they support their candidate because they are a good speaker or they aren't old.

And as my neighbor told me, the anti-Christ! :thumbsup2 Luckily she wasn't clued in enough to figure out how to order her absentee ballot. ;)

The Messiah AND the anti-Christ? I thought he was an Arab Muslim born in Kenya with Indonesian citizenship who wants to make slaves of white people. :rotfl:

Where's my kool-aid?
...Oh, there it is:
