Why are sneezes, smiles, laughter, ............ contagious? Maybe the same reason if someone told you not to think about a zebra, that's all you can think about. In some ways your mind and body are easily influenced. I don't think scientists will ever find the exact reason why some things spread like wildfire. If one person yawns, soon everyone is even if you're not tired. Wow, I actually haven't yawned reading this thread. Visual example might be more influencing than just the word.
The Mystery Machine, now that you mention it, I think I saw that on the HC one time. The yawning meant they were comfortable enough with you to let their guard down or something. For me, it means I'm sleepy, I just saw someone yawn (or like DawnF316, I see my puppy yawn), or I'm trying to get some moisture to my contacts.
Didn't you know, it's a primitive reflex that if you see someone else yawn your body thinks that person is using too much oxygen from the room and will yawn too to compensate? It's a survival instinct.
I can't stop yawning now! All we need to do is talk about it.<a href='http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008' target='_blank'><img src='http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_6_101.gif' border=0></a>
