Why & what is it about wdw that has us under a spell? I would like to know the psychology behind it. At first I thought I was just a kid at heart or maybe it was me getting to do some of the things I missed out on as a child.

Is it that I forget about the rest of the world when I'm there, I mean I rarely watch the news other than for the weather forecast. :cloud9: Is it just an escape from reality for us? I feel we all could use that sometimes.

What do you all think? :confused3

I think a large part of it is the same draws for any fandom . . . it's an alternative world with its own history, culture, and community that is constantly evolving and changing, and for folks like us, one where more (or excessive? :rotfl: ) knowledge can broaden the experience.

Yay for being the FUN geeks!!! :cheer2:

I think it depends on the individual. For me, Disney lies close to my heart becuase I have many very fond childhood memories there. Every time I go back, it rekindles that "magic" I felt when I was little, bringing out the kid in me. Its one of the only places where I don't have to worry about "real life" and where I can just have fun! I plan on passing on the tradition one day.

I wouldn't say that I am obsessed with Disney in general, just Disney World, because I am a theme park junky to say the least. It gives me an escape from my studying, working and life in general.

Isis, you got it. I grew up in So Cal, and disney was a special place to me. Growing up with all the classic Disney movies, And had albums of them that I knew by heart. It brings back great memmories to go to DL/WDW now, and to now go with my grandson, is more special still. I hope to turn him into a Disney lover for life. He's well on his way.
It's like having an excuse to behave like a kid again. :yay:

all of this and more. the magical feeling of being 8 again. feeling what it's like to see peter pan. to feel that i dont need to worry about things. i can't wait til i get to spend 10 days with my DW alone. :smickey:

It's because it's the best Escape from this crazy world we live in.

It gets no simpler then this .

I think it is the fact that you don't have to be/act like an adult at Disney. :cool1: For me, too, it is an escape from the "real" world--it seems like it is a million-jillion miles away. Can't wait til we go in Nov.

Two Words--

The MAGIC!

Exactly. We are "addicted" to Disney because we knew to never let go of our vivid imaginations and uncomparable dreams of fantasy and wonderland.

We learned to live the best of the "real" world and the world we have so unknowingly created with every step of our lives. Why would we want to give that up? ;)

My thoughts exactly!!! Last August when dd9 and myself were there we saw a "Beautiful Rainbow" in the sky over Space Mountain and The Castle on our first evening there. It brought tears to my eyes!!! I'll never forget that rainbow...those people that aren't phased by the Magic of Disney, just would not get it !!!There is definitely something very Magical about WDW. :flower:

For me its a combination of a couple of things... 1) some very special memories I have from recent trips (all since 2000) with DW and our kids; 2) like nowhere else on the planet, my family and I are alone and "encommunicado" while at WDW.

I'm trying to figure this out myself. NO LUCK! My husband says its because most of my good childhood memories came from there. I don't know. When you figure it out let me know PLease!

I never went as a child but when I was little I always wanted to go and I use to cut out pictures of Mickey Mouse from the newspaper and tape them to the back of my door. I believe Disney to me is like Santa at Christmas..something magical and innocent in a world that can be very cruel and hold alot of sadness. :cloud9: Wow all of a sudden I feel like singing Kumbaya. :rotfl2:

To me, Disney is so many things. It starts with the planning and the anticipation of the trip. This is such a big part of the fun! Looking forward to staying at a favorite resort or trying a new one, and don't even get me started on the restaurants. We plan our days and daydream about how magical our moments will be long before we ever arrive. My favorite part of Disney would have to be those moments that I share with my family and friends, or experience sometimes in a quiet moment by myself walking along. They truly are magical moments, like a child's smile as they see Illuminations, an older couple sharing a sweet kiss as they walk through France, the shining smiles on my kid's faces as they stand with the Pooh characters for pictures even though they are teenagers now. I guess Disney just gives me a hopeful feeling, and alot of that is because of the attitute of the CM's and how positive they interact with our family. I feel very fortunte to be able to spend so much time in such a wonderful place.

I never got to go as a child and really really wanted to. The saddest part is that I spent a few of my childhood years only a couple of miles a way from WDW. My parents always said someday... and well, that never came. However, now that I am a Mom I get to take my 3 kids! It fills me up with such a feeling of accomplishment, fulfilling my own childhood memories and creating magical new ones with my own children. Also for us, WDW is the ONLY time that the 5 of us get to spend time ALONE! We take care of our grandmother and disabled father in law and have tons and tons of family around. There is always someone else "playin in our sandbox". So on vacation it's just us, rebonding again after a long hard year. our escape...

My husband and I had been to Disney World 4 times and though we liked it and had a good time,it was nothing like the trip to Disney this past March. We took my sister, her husband and their 4 children with us and and it was the best vacation we ever had.It was like Christmas morning for 6 straight days. Watching the kids faces and sharing it with them I think brought out the child in us. Well needless to say we are now hooked and can't get enough of the MAGIC,we are headed back for 9 days in October and our 1st MNSSHP.

Oh ya it is definately better when you have children to share it with. Plus it is a place where you can forget all your worries and just have fun and be a kid again yourself.

For all the reasons stated above for me. Childhood Memories, I can be a kid, the family bounds are stronger after a vacation.

But then again, I'm addicted to Disney because.....it's a heck of a lot cheaper than a crack and cocain addiction!!! :rotfl2: Besides, if I'm ever caught by a policeman he cannot arrest me for being a Disney Addict :thumbsup2 :lmao:
