Why are VHS and DVD movies always released on Tuesday?

I've often wondered -- why are DVD and VHS movies always released on Tuesday?

I honestly don't know, but after reading Danny Bonaduce's autobiography, I know that the radio ratings books are due every Thursday at 7:20 AM. He explained that if your favorite station is giving away a million dollars on a Thursday at 7:20 AM, that's why. They need that last minute flood of listeners. Maybe there's some sort of Tuesday connection with music and movies?

I always thought it was cuz Tuesdays are generally slow days in the retail business. This generates some business.

Cd's too. I believe it has something to do with guaranteeing retailers a level playing field on new product by getting the deliveries in on time. I believe in the UK the day is Monday.
