Maybe it is me - my 4yr old dd is totally into House of Mouse since it is the only place she can see Minnie (her idol.) She doesn't usually watch too much TV and when she does it is either a kids movie w/ us or Noggin which is commercial free.

I knew House of Mouse would have commercials but I envisioned junk food, toy commercials etc... things attracting the kids watching the show. All I see is debt consolidating commercials, geico commercials etc... why in the world would Disney have adult oriented commercials on their kids programming shows. Do I really need to have my kid watch a lady picking up the phone and telling someone how broke she is?

Does anyone else think this is strange?? :confused3

Wow! We record House of Mouse for our DD (5) here in Ohio. We have Cox Cable and never see a commercial for Geico, Debt Consolidation, etc.

All the commercials on House of Mouse are for other shows on the Disney Channel or Disney Movies.

Maybe the cable company is controlling your commercials?

I may get flamed for saying this, but I really dont care. Count your blessings if they are showing adult commercials. Here where I am, on the Disney channel, all the commercials are child oriented but in all the wrong ways!. I mean really people. My children arent hiphop or divas. They dont gyrate, wear big chain necklaces, spin records, rap, breakdance, or say Yo this and Yo that. My children will speak ENGLISH, not ebonics or slang. They will act like they want to be something more in life other than a thug or a gangsta. I am so fed up with the crap that they arent allowed to watch Disney channel AT ALL! Almost every single show is full of the crap, and if its NOT, (like some of the playhouse Disney ones that were great shows), the commercials were still there cramming it down their throats! Even spaghetti Os is rappin and spinnin and crap. Captn Crunch is "trying to get the party out" with rap music blaring and cereal parts spinning on the floor! Its disgusting! These people need to realize that not every child out there is into rap music!!! That crap dont get anywhere near my home. Personally, if I see a commercial where they are doing that I take note of the brand and boycott that brand! I wont raise my children to be nobodys. I want my son to be a specialty tradesman (plumbing, electrical, engineering, etc) or computers, or real estate, or construction management or something else worth while, not shoot for a "one in a million" shot that he might be a millionaire rapper! Even if he could, I would prefer he chose a REAL career! TV loves to paint this false picture of reality. How many people who go around saying "Yo Dog this and Yo Dog that" will ever actually be anything they can be proud of in front of a preacher or the president? TV has sunk to new levels of low for children. We got so fed up with it that we cancelled our cable TV completely! We have 6 game systems, internet (filtered), 2 computers, lots of BOOKS, and an MVP pass at Hollywood Video. We decide what input goes into our children, not Captn Crunch or Chef Boyardee! You can either raise your children yourself, or let these losers raise them for you. This isnt an anti-black statement. I have an old friend who is black and VERY wealthy. Shes a financial counselor. She acts dignified and civilized. She didnt get there swinging her arms down into the camera and saying Yo Dog. It took hard work and education. This isnt about color as much as it is fad. Its all the kids doing this gangster/rap stuff now, not just the black ones, and I have several black american (I prefer black americans over african americans. They are americans as much as we are, they werent raised in africa, they were raised here in the US, shoot just "Americans" is better still) who agree with every word I am saying. One of them told me it breaks his heart to see the young generation throw away everything that his generation worked SO hard to establish. Theres no wonder we wont have any social security when we get older, its all going to food stamps and welfare. Besides, with Kazaa and Bearshare and the such, if you DID make it big in music they'd just download it and burn it to disc! Why buy it when its free on the internet? Thats what most people think at least. Oh the flames are on the way I'm sure.

No Flames- I just wanted to let the OP know she gave me a chuckle this morning. Suzanne74 I read your post this moring before I got my kids up for school. They had the TV on for about 10-15 mins. while they were eating breakfast. I don't know if it was a Disney or Nick channel, but "Full House" was on. Well, I paid attention to the commercials because of your post. My kids got to learn about You-Know-Where Itching on a commercial for Vagisl! :earseek: I just thought "How Crazy" and totally agree with you!

!@#$% --Are you for real? Seriously, you are a trip. Your reply really made me laugh. You are too funny!

As to the OP, our commericals during HOM are stricly Disney related. I don't think I have ever seen a non-Disney commerical on Disney channel. It must be your cable provider.

Cute but sad - DD (5) was freaked out by the debt consolidation ads, and asked me if people call out house because we couldn't pay the bills. Totally inappropriate targeting.

My thing is why on earth do they play it at 11pm. The sad thing is lately my dd who is 2 is up that late but not on the norm.

I was wondering about the strange commercials the other day. I thought my dd had changed the channel. :rotfl: We have Cox Cable too. They even had thrown in an add for themselves. Like we need to order cable when we already have it and just about every channel. :rotfl:

I much prefer letting dd watch PBS in the morning.

I can't say you are totally wrong on all that you said, but maybe you should learn to speak proper english before you start complaining about other people.
The sentence "That crap don't get anywhere near my home" shows your ignorance. I am normally pretty easygoing about other people views, in fact, I love the diversity that we, as americans, have the freedom to express. However, the one thing I don't like is intolerance of others, and you certainly seem to skirt the line there. I certainly hope that you are a happier person than you seem to be in your post. :)

I am always amazed at the commercials that I see during some children's shows.
About a year ago Nickelodeon had alot of commercials with children living in poverty. They were from some organization asking for donations. It actually put my 2 year old in tears. One minute you're playing Blue's Clues and the next you were looking at some poor child's ribs.Thankfully I have not seen those on during children's shows for awhile.
As far as Captain Crunch rapping...are you kidding me! :rotfl2:
I really don't see how something so innocent and hilarious could have a negative effect on anyone.Lighten up

If you think I dont have tolerance your full of it. If a Jehovias Witness knocks on your door twice in a month you'd say he was cramming his religion down your throat, youd get irrate if a third showed up. If a salesman or solicitor or mormon shows up at your doorstep and spends 5 minutes 3 times a month you'd be furious. yet they show these commercials OVER and OVER and OVER and your children see literally tens of thousands of them over the years. At approximately 60 seconds each, you do the math. Literally weeks spent watching trash. Its low-level brain washing. As for my ignorance, I wont even comment on that, your not worth my time. AAMOF, I wont post any more responses to this thread. I said what I wanted to say. :teeth:

Where is the tag fairy when we need him/her?

Please people- Do you really think you can acurately judge someones' level of intelligence or ignorance based on one line in one post? That's just a tad presumptuous, don't you think? It's not a term paper for heaven's sake, it's more like a conversation. Haven't you ever said or typed something that just didn't get phrased right? Doesn't make you ignorant, just human. Perhaps we should deal with the topic here, not jump on total strangers because they don't say things the way we would like.

Not trying to start a flame war here, I just think that the value of groups like this is in evaluating the content of peoples ideas, not fixating how they express them.

Plus, personally I agree. If commercials are a barometer of our societal values, we are in big trouble! I watched the ABC family show 'wildfire' with my 13 yo DD last night. Basicaly a good show aimed at young girls (although the morals in it seem to be declining rapidly as it gains an audience). Many of the adds were downright embarrasing, when they weren't totally brainless and insulting. From now on we DVR everything, and skip the commercials!

I agree that what they show between childrens shows could be thought out a little better. As for noggin I think the things they show between shows is really strange. I just watched a story about a man trying to make turtle soup. That is a little strange to me! I also do not like that the disney channel plays mcdonalds commercials between every show. Gosh, I guess there is a lot that I do not like!
