You've misread the definition. You are not indulging someone or having sympathy for them. Your are indulging their thought process - or having sympathy for that thought process. It has nothing to do with the individual. It points to a DIFFERENCE, not a flaw.

I chose my words very carefully. I'm the expert on me, and I know what I meant. That's what I meant. (Said with all due respect, and no edgy tone!)

Thank you! :goodvibes

On point one, we'll have to agree to disagree. Just different points of view and summantics.

On point two, you are absolutely right! You are the expert on you and know what you meant to say. I appologize if I came across as trying to tell you what you meant to say. That was not my intention.

On point three, you're welcome! Love the smile on both of your faces!

1.) Okay! :flower:

2.) It's all good.

3.) We've covered the thank you/you're welcome. :)

Actually it wasn't the African American community that said if you have one drop of African American in you you are black. That comes from old slave and Jim Crow laws which helped perserve the institution of segregation.

Please get your facts straight.

True, except most African Americans today embrace anyone with any black in them as being black. I just dont see why everything is color motivated, that's all.

Thank you! I was going to mention that earlier and I forgot!

Had to jump in on this one: Static Shock, Green Lantern, Storm, and Cyborg. I'm sure there are more, but I'm not as involved in comic culture as I once was.

Spawn and Blade off the top of my head.

Just to add -- Black Panther, Black Lightning, Steel (made into a movie starring Shaquille O'Neal), Iron Man (for a short period in the 1980s). There are many others that come to mind but aren't as well known and most people would be saying "who?"

Wow, going on 10 pages (may be there by the time I post this) and this thread hasn't gotten ugly. Slightly heated in points and passionate, yes, but not ugly.

I've seen one phrase quite a few times in this thread -- "compelling story". Mulan was a compelling story. Aladdin (featuring Jasmine) was a compelling story. I never saw Pocahontas, so I can't comment.

If Disney could find, write, or license a compelling story with a black princess, I'm sure they would. The one someone linked to about the two beautiful daughters -- I've never read that story, but from the review and synopsis I did read on Amazon it sounds like it would be a very compelling story.

I think it's a lot to expect everyone to be color blind and completely ignore someone's ethnicity. That is hard to do. The best thing to do is to look beyond that and see the person as an individual. As MLK said, "where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character."

Mymatisse... I didn't know you were married to SnackyStacky! Nice to meet you!

I don't turn a blind eye towards race and culture, just that it isn't important to me. When I meet someone I am far more interested in who they are then what race they are. So, the color just doesn't register. I agree that we need to celebrate and appreciate each others differences, but I also think we need to celebrate and appreciate the sameness. When all you do is focus on the differences it turns us into a them and us society. I would rather it be all of us.

Each of us bring different life experiences to the table. The color of our skin is just one part. If may be a large part, but no person is totally defined by their skin color. Since color has never been important to me it is not the first thing I think of when I meet someone. It really has nothing to do with intentionally turning a blind eye, I just don't notice. Now if you are wearing an elephant... That I'll notice. I collect elephants and am drawn to them like a magnet.

I mean no offence when I say that you and SnackyStacky looked happy and I didn't notice the bi-racial marriage part. It is just who I am. But I am not blind. I notice the things that are important to me. Not focusing in on someones color also does not make me blind ignorant either. And I really do object to that remark.

How about this... I will assume that there are people who notice color, and some that don't. Neither way is wrong, just differences that we should celebrate.

This is really the last thing I am going to post because this whole thread is just really aggrevating and touching a lot of nerves. When people broadly come on here and state that they don't look at race, and race doesn't matter, or for those who say question why disney should have racially diverse princesses, you all are speaking from a very privileged position and you don't even realize it. It is a privilege in this county to wake up every morning and say "i'm not going to look at race." You know why you can say that? Because you don't have to think about race. It's not confronting you every single day. If you are white in this country you are constantly bombarded with images of yourself in every magazine you look at, in every comercial you watch, in every tv program you see. 99.999 percent of products are marketed to white people, from hair care products to make-up. When you are the "standard" you can choose not to look at race.

Now if you can for a second just imagine being in a world where you turn on the tv, look in a magazine, try to purchase a DISNEY princess doll and can't find one face that looks like yours. Have to go to a specialty store to buy hair products. How does that make a child feel? Now tell me race isn't important!

I'm done.

It's very interesting. Someone posts a post which asks, "Wouldn't it be nice if their were some black princesses?"

Not, wouldn't it be nice if we started a boycott because WDW is so racist.
Not, wouldn't it be nice if we started a revolution because all those honkies just don't get it.
Not, wouldn't it be nice if we all becamse PC so we'd all be loveable?

Just, wouldn't if be nice if there were a black princess or even two?

And look what pops us. Like squeezing a pimple.

I work with congregational systems and help them do emotional processing. If I got a reaction to this kind of question like we've gotten on this one, I would know that LOTS was up and it wasn't gonna be easy to heal.

A black princess or two isn't even the half of it.

Have a good one.

I was wondering when the "If you don't like it, hit the road" would come.

Is there a problem with that? I am not saying don't come to Disney World, I am saying that if you don't like how things are done, then improve them. You read it as negative. With the great black comedies put out this past year, I think a culturally diverse studio could make some money.

Twisting my words to villify me is not a very nice thing to do and it shows that you can not validate your own beliefs, so since you can't prop yours up, you have to take mine down.

How do you "know" that I am mad?

Your tone on this thread makes me nervous to either say, race is an issue or race is not an issue. Really, I feel from you that one or the other will both be wrong.

It is hard to discuss race with someone when you are white....you will always get the "you don't understand" argument, and you are right, I don't understand and I never will because I haven't experienced it. So quite frankly, I don't discuss these issues anymore because it is a no win situation.

It was the "What gives any of us the right" comment afterwards. Yes, the mom that started this thread is really going to go out right now and start her own movie studio.

Her only comment was that it would be nice and questioning why there isn't one. She isn't demanding that Disney produce one immediately. I don't think your comment even fits in with the discussion and of course it was angry.
