Why are some threads in bold letters?

Why are some threads in bold letters and have a little blue box at the front with a check mark in it?

I just gotta Know!

Threads are "bolded" if there are new posts since your last visit to the board. The blue check means that you have posted on that thread.

I think the blue box with the check means go to first new post.

THANK YOU! I've wondered about the bolded thing for a while now. I had initially assumed they were bolded if they were threads you haven't read yet, but discovered that wasn't true. Now I know!
