I'm just wondering why some threads are closed even when there's no nasty posting going on. :confused3 Is there a rule of thumb that I don't know about? :thumbsup2

Thanks for helping me understand.

The mods just decide to do it when things get even a little nasty. It's to keep us all friends lol. I used to get so mad when Rhonda would close a thread but you know we might just see each other at the fort sometime and when we meet she don't want us to have a knockdown dragout. :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

a knockdown dragout :lmao: too funny! I can see a gang buster on the boats now- :rotfl:

I must have missed something in the golf cart question one that was closed. See most of them go right over my head. :hippie:

LOL well I'm the one who started the altercation on the boat but I'm done with it and that thread is gone. I'm not going to go around Rhonda and start that again. The golf cart threads start with a complaint about crazy driving usually involving underage drivers and end with hey I'll come to your house and end your life. Just kidding but they do run about a hair from that. I think to date my thread about the ladies sitting first was the most controversial I've seen. Disboards has an armed guard at my house for a few days lol. They thought I needed the protection. I'm kidding of course. The real reason though like Rhonda says, is that you can only post so much and people repeat and argue so it's time to close it down. BUT!!!!! believe you me, those posts will return by someone again and it will all start over.

It seems like it's also sometimes done because the original poster asked a particular question or wanted to discuss a particular topic and then over time the thread kind of veered off course into another topic of discussion. Nobody said or did anything wrong. I've seen, "okay, looks like the original question has been answered so I'm going to lock this post" kind of thing.

Our moderators are just taking care of us. :)

I have an idea for the next controversial thread.........

Golf Cart etiquette. Who has right of way? Do underage drivers "give way" or do those with out of date resort mugs (non FW of course). This requires a poll of course........ :rotfl2: :lmao: :thumbsup2

Thats the exact reason I closed the most recent golf car thread. Unfortunately it seems that the golf car threads deteriorate very rapidly.

Don't even think about :sad2:

Rhond and I both remember a camping board that did not need ANY moderation. The last thing either of us wants to do is close threads and handle infractions, its not a fun thing to do. Now helping someone plan their first trip to the Fort or hearing about magical moments others have had - thats the fun part.

I think closing that particular thread out was probably a wise decision. It became apparent there were two sides to the issue and neither was budging. It definitely turned into something I've never seen on disboards.

I'm also a member of a lawn maintenance and landscaping forum website. There is actually a section (near the bottom of course) that is for "off-topic" discussions. Sort of like our "community board". But in that forum, there is a section for "politics" and one for "religion". Holy cow, the stuff that goes back and forth in those rooms. :scared1:

I started a thread one time about golf cart websites as DH wants to buy one.
Anyway, after the question was asked and answered it turned into a lovely discussion on White Castle hamburgers. No one was nasty.

Rhonda shut the thread down since the question had been asked and answered. So I got my first locked thread. :teeth:
And since I spend most of my time on the Community Board where pretty much anything goes, I was quite impressed with having it shut down. The mods on this board are much stricter! Nothing wrong with that. In fact when I'm sick of the CB, I come over here to see people playing nice with each other. Kind of restores my faith in people!:thumbsup2

in truth, you really can't mention golf carts without mentioning America's favorite hamburger...... you were a victim of improper locking there...... :rotfl2:

and Mr. Man is my new main man, he's alright.:thumbsup2

And as for Stacktester, he's the one who solved the mystery of the missing olsen

I totally understand threads getting locked. I like that this is a friendly board and feels like a CG. Just next time stacktester, don't post anything controversial when I am PMSing. You can talk to dh about that one. He is still trying me to take drugs once a month. :rotfl2: Most times I do manage to keep my mouth shut and avoid controversy. Knowing that thread can be locked and I can be "fussed" is a good way to keep it that way. I truly am a peacekeeper and pleaser at heart. Just not once a month. I would be upset about the locking of threads if there seemed to be bias, but I don't see that at all. Even with the controversy, we are given a chance to be grownups. Of course we don't always take it. :rotfl:

Kudos to the mods for keeping us from killing each other. Now, pass me that skewer and a marshmallow, please.:grouphug:

Disney Camper I remember I think it was two or more years ago you or Ronda said this is the first time you ever had to close a thread on the camping board.

I have visions of a "group hug" :grouphug:

I dare you to go over to the Resorts board and start a thread called "Let's talk about Refillable Mugs" :rolleyes1

NO - DON'T!!! I was just kidding! :lmao: That would get shut down before it even started!!

Seriously...we're a little more lenient here on the Camping Board. We like to see discussions (and debates) about interesting topics. But, sometimes the thread just "wears itself out" with the same things being said over and over, after everyone has stated their point. At that point, it's time to just close it and go on to something else.

Or, of course, as soon as the personal attacks or namecalling starts (which is very rare, thank goodness) we usually have to close a thread. Sometimes that happens so quickly, that most people don't even know what happened or why it was closed.

Anyway, I'll quit rambling now....I have to go search for my old mugs for our upcoming trip. ;)
