Why are rear facing verandas cheaper than side facing?

So I'm pricing rooms for a January 2019 4 day Bahamas on the Dream, and noticing that the rear facing rooms with over sized verandas are cheaper than standard veranda rooms. To me the over sized balcony seems like a great perk.

Am I missing some negatives about them being cheaper?

The rooms I'm eyeing are the rear facing veranda rooms on the 9th deck (I remember being on 10 once and hearing lots of chairs being moved around above us every morning, so thought a deck lower might be quieter). Just thought I'd post here to see if I'm missing some obvious negative that I haven't thought of.

Thanks in advance!

Because rooms near midship seem to be more desirable. We had one of the aft 5e rooms once and loved it.

You feel more movement and vibration of the ship the further you are from the center, so midship is usually seen as more desirable than fore or aft. But, I also like the aft facing balconies on the Drea/Fantasy.

I love the aft facing balconies but like dcassetta said there’s going to be more noise and vibration in the aft.

Some smell fumes on these balconies.
I have had one, and loved the experience.

I know people who love really those aft-facing large balconies and book them whenever they can. I always book mid-ship because I'm hoping for as little motion as possible (but then I'm very prone to motion sickness).

The issue with the aft cabins is the motion, but also they tend to be a LONG ways from a lot of the ship. We just came back from an 11 day cruise on Holland America's Zuiderdam, and had an aft corner balcony cabin on 8. When the ship was moving (every night) the bed had a very pronounced 'wiggle' at a frequency of about one every 5 - 10 seconds. That would drive some people crazy, but we really loved it. We were on Fantasy three years ago, in an aft cabin and after leaving San Juan, they threw the throttles open, to make the two day run back to Castaway Cay. Our cabin was really shaking for the next 48 hours or so, as at high speed there was a very pronounced vibration in our cabin. Some people don't care for that. We LOVE the large balcony with good shade much of the time, and do NOT mind the motion.

On cruise ships the cost goes up by

- room size
- type of room from inside, outside, view, veranda, suite.
- place on a deck, middle of the ship more expensive (less apparent motion).
- deck (higher deck more expensive).
- how many of a particular cabin type has sold. So occasionally an inside may cost more than an outside if that category is near sold out and outside s haven't sold.

Yep smoke, fumes, noise(possibly from buffet or engine), movements, etc. The fumes/smoke seem to mainly bother people who are sensitive to it, like my SIL. It never bothered me, and I love to stare off at the wake the ship leaves behind.

I've been on two Dream cruises with my brother-in-law. Both times I booked mid-ship and both times he booked the aft balcony, deck 9. He loves it back there. I, on the other hand, could tell a NOTICEABLE difference between his cabin and mine regarding movement. I had a hard time being in his room. I was OK when I was out on the balcony in his room, but if I was in the room itself it really messed with my equilibrium. I'm the kind of person who doesn't get seasick badly, but I am sensitive to things like deep-sea fishing and sometimes the tender boats make me nauseous, so there is no way I would personally book at the back of the boat, I don't care how big the balcony is.

Thanks everyone for the information. I know we've been aft before and haven't had any problems with motion sickness (we proactively take bonine just in case) so I think we're going to go ahead with it for the extra balcony space. My parents are taking an inside room but with the large balcony we can have them over to join us.
