I'm sorry this has happened to you. I think some people just feel superior when they are wearing rare. It's sad that people have to act that way. I have noticed more and more people treating people rudely. I don't know if I'm just paying attention more or if it's gotten worse. My daughter was harrassed for being pink and wearing an outfit that supposibly didn't match and I just today I saw a new player being teased for being pink. Seems like people find whatever they can to make fun of others. Guess it makes them feel better...how sad.
A bunch of people make fun of me because I am pink. I mean, why is it so bad?
They allways say, why are you pink?
I say, because I want to be and because I think pink is cool.
And they say, well it's not.
It is silly. This happens to be a bunch in public room. Who cares if I am pink? I just like to be different and try to stop everyone being the same skin color.

I'm not the kind of person that would do that. i see a lot of new players (only girls) that are pink. i only think that (and i'm not trying to sound rude mean) they didn't know how to scroll through the clothes section. either i keep seeing the same girl, or girls who don't choose their clothes and keep going have goofy hats and shrunken ned shirts with skirts.

It's called a superiority complex. Some people believe that just because they have the best items, they are better and have the inherent right to trample on the feelings of others. They feel entitled to be mean and rude.
Now most of the Diser's I've met in my time have all been nice and welcoming. I'm sorry to hear that you had a bad experience, but don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch.
Oh, and rest in peace Kurt Vonnegut. (A little off topic, but i needed to say it)
Why do you believe they were rude to you because you don't have rare items on? This isn't the first time I've seen players accuse people of being rude, blaming it on the person's "wealth".
I see my share of rude "poor" players in the game. If the DIS player was rude to you, that's a shame, but it's not fair to blame rudeness with how much someone has in the game.
Most of the DISers I know are welcoming to everyone.
And keep in mind that those of us who are adults who play VMK don't treat others badly based on what clothes or pins you are wearing. Many are parents who would want their own children treated nicely.
I actually find the opposite to be the case. DD and I held an experiment the other day. We put the golden ears on each of our characters and them took them off and put normal things on them. We wanted to see how wearing the rarer items affected our friend requests. Amazingly, when the characters were wearing the golden ears, we got all kinds of friend requests and it seemed like every time we walked into a room someone was asking to trade with us. When the characters were wearing normal things, not one friend request was received. This also happened when the girl characters were wearing the blue princess outfits.
We like friends, but not friends that just want what we happen to have. We haven't encountered anyone who actually has the rare items to be rude. Only those who claim to have the items and really don't and those who are item challenged.
Well I think there are a lot of rude players. I was playing one of my mules and got a friends request to play falling chairs. Yes each mule has different friends . I ask if I had to pay to play she said no. She told others it was for rare. When she cecked her items what she thought was rare was not and she apologized and wanted to know if we still want to play. All the players left but two. Here she was offering a free item to win but because it was not rare they left. I felt bad for her.
That's so sad. Last night I went into a DIS member's quest room.
Not only did I see what appeared to be mules playing the quest, but one
player (who didn't seem to be a mule) told the room owner that his quest
prizes were cheap.
I've seen SO much of that lately (in another DISers game room, too) that
I want to reach through my monitor and smack them for those rude
comments.
I can't stress this often enough:
If a player takes their time, effort and credits to put together a
game or quest, giving out prizes, be grateful they are willing to share anything they own with you.
