Why are people on US boards so touchy?

Not strange to me.

I don't go to Disney or Seaworld, last went to Disney in 08/09......so have no real opinion on either. It's not a case of committing to one board or another........at least not for me, don't think it's that deep.

I can answer some questions on Universal........it's nice to be able to help newbies with their questions.......I can't answer questions on Disney and have no reason to question others about Disney.

I'm glad you post all over the boards, but please don't think it's strange for some us that don't feel the need.

hmmm...case rested I believe lol

I never understand the "over here and over there" comparisons. I post in this group on all of the forums on every subject about every park if it catches my attention. Do people really just commit to one board and stick with it? That's so strange to me.

Some people have a lot more to say than others, especially on a message board. I'm guilty as charged lol but wouldn't dream of questioning why another rolls differently.:scratchin

IMO That comparison of "over here and over there" tends to crop up more on the Disney-focused side of the boards. Odd phenom with people identifying so strongly with something they love. People often take derogatory comments re the parks/resorts/events very personally.

When HP came to town, many die-hard WDW fans took the plunge and expanded their horizons. Some were converts after just one trip. Others were obviously out of their comfort zone, quick to express themselves, often in rather derogatory terms in lieu of lively debate/constructive criticism.

Many here don't spend quite as much time on the boards as other DISers, they breeze by & find the info they need to help plan their trips.

Others are prolific posters, but more than a few do tend to focus their posts within their specific areas of interest/expertise:thumbsup2.

Well, you are certainly entitled to your own interpretation and opinions of such matters.

Well said Keisha.........

I've never even given a thought as to how others post on here.....or where they post on here??? No idea why that would be an interest to anyone........or why anyone would care enough to comment.

Yes, the over here/there comments tend to come from people usually disparaging Universal in one way or another........

I'll just carry on as I am I think.......:D

I post in the section that's relevant to my next trip.. Be it WDW, DL, or Here. And then after my trip, I disappear until I start planning my next trip. It's not that I don't like the boards or the people, it's just after a trip, I don't want to be reminded that I am not going on a trip and that I have nothing to look forward to at the moment. I've only had a couple of incidents where I wanted to verbally slap another poster for being rude/snarky, but I haven't done that. I have not-so-gently corrected a rude poster or two, but only when I know I am correct with my information. I'm also the first to thank someone for courteously correcting me.

I do agree that I really haven't seen snarky comments over here in the darkside. People are fans of US, but they're not overzealous. And everyone has been very helpful.

Part of me is kind of worried about the OP. She hasn't even been on since the day she made the post. Hope she's OK.

I wondered too but then I noticed that she doesn't post very often. This was truly a drive-by post. :)

I like all theme parks and even some amusement parks that have no theme. My favorite by far is Universal but I see no reason to slam other places. Not even poor old Six Flags. ;)

Agreed. Nothing like rounding the corner on Main Street and seeing the castle at WDW. And, I can't wait until all my kids are tall enough to ride everything at Cedar Point. We are just a universal family though. We usually do a week at a time and that's where my kids want to go.

I can only speak for myself but I post in many of the forums and threads
I read all sections of the Dis

I started out in the cb when I was a new poster then moved to all the Disney sections of the Dis

Learned so much about everything
Did my first trip to disney in 1974
Relied on books that were available in order to learn more about orlando and parks
Yearly trips were more organized on my part since I followed tips from others postings

Thrilled when I found the Disboards in 2000
Information at my fingertips !

In 1995 I ventured out to other sites in Orlando
Have hit all parks and entertainment in Florida that interested me
So since then, I read whatever boards that are online

And when I see any post about the Adventurer Club, I read it and weep since it is gone
Absolutely loved going to it

The UO forums don't have many conversational threads ( just chit chat)
Something about nothing is the only one we have

Sometime a thread in the UO sections turn into an exchange of information but seldom becomes personalized and off track
But when they do, if all are playing nice not an issue

When a thread turns confrontational and derailed, it no longer serves a purpose to provide info to the op's original question for help or direction

When we get so far away from the original question from a newbie, and topic changed, we can't always get the conversation back on track
So it would be time to relocate the thread and let it continue in another forum

Thanks to all who have shown great restraint in keeping this thread on track in typical US board fashion. It is greatly appreciated! :teeth:

No need to relocate this thread, it has been respectful and has shown restraint in its tone.

Sometimes innocent questions are asked by those unaware of the true 'tone' on a forum. There have been a couple of questions/comments of that nature in this thread (yes, I have read through the entire thread) and the 'regulars' on this board have shown great restraint in their comments.

Kudos!! :)

Oh, then good. I didn't get that far into looking. :) I just thought "wow, nearly 2 months!" and let the "I'm a real person, so these are real people and I have no reason to assume they are lying or stirring pots or being anything but real" side take over and start worrying.

One day we plan to visit these infamous Six Flags Parks........heard so much about them........just hope we're not too old to enjoy by time we get around to it.........:D

If it weren't for Six Flags, I wouldn't be able to get my coaster fix. Six Flags has some really great innovative coasters.. but they lack in so many areas.. like cleanliness, food service, and speedy loading/unloading of rides. I've been to my "local" one twice already this year and they just opened last month. I've been a season pass holder for 6 Flags for about 15 years now. They are not WDW/Universal quality, but they're fun and convenient.

go sooner than later! Some of the rides are fantastic but the parks themselves...meh.

But where else can you see WB cartoon characters doing really corny stuff and badly dressed superheroes?

I used to go to six flags in ATL a lot as a young child. My wife and I went to six flags in Arlington two or three years ago. Wow! I'm so used to universal I was shocked at how crappy the park was maintained, the TMs were terrible and the food was ridiculously priced. Don't get me wrong, the rides were fun but the park in general was a lot of notches below universal.

100% agreement.

Late to the thread, but just want to say it was the folks on uni forum that made our recent trip amazing - we ended up buying APs and I'm a diehard WDW fan as well. They are terrific, quick to help and very supportive.
:thanks:

Really at end of the day, it's just about being nice and respectful to others and remembering that what you may not like is wonderful for someone else and vice versa. It's all about staying open to new ideas and experiences vs being critical or judgmental.

ANY day at either park is a whole lot better than a day at work. :D
