Why are people doing this?

I see people on this board and another VMK board asking for things for free. They need such and such for a room. Some are well known to have a lot of items and highly tradeable things.

So where do they do that? Where is the self respect? I just don't understand people asking for things when we all know how to earn credits?

Every one is us started new. I remember when I started it was a full month before I even asked for a trade. I flat out knew I didn't have anything of value. I would not have dreamed of asking for hand outs.

I really like the space suit thread and I think that gifting is really nice but out right asking for stuff? That just really steams me.

It seems that there has been a lot of it lately.

It is probably just me. I was brought up to pay my own way and never ask anyone to do anything for me that I could do myself.

Yes, I totally agree. It is really not right. I have actually stated that it is not right to ask people for stuff. Do they do this in real life? I doubt it.

I like to gift people too - but of course, when I know them or they are friends and have been friends of my children. I am at the point where I will even leave my own room - get tired of the begging.

I am a giving person - but it starts to turn your off. I call it now selective gift giving now. Bummer!!

I'm glad you brought this up, because I think it just encourages people (kids,
I'm thinking) to do this while online in the game. I would think if their parents
knew the kids were doing this, they'd put a stop to that behavior.

I agree that we've worked hard to get the stuff we wanted, and it's nice
to be able to "gift" someone once in a while. But if someone's in the "gimme
gimme" beg mode, I'm more inclined to be stingy towards them and gift
people who do not ask for stuff.

That being said, I've signed up under the Space Suit thread and some
really nice lady did "gift" me. ;) But I would never have approached
anyone directly and asked. I figured that thread was for those of us
who really don't have the skill to get the suit.

As for the items that are readily sold in stores? Unless someone is going to
be offline and couldn't get it for themselves, I would be glad to help someone
out. But I don't care for the "I'm broke!" reason. That doesn't wash with me.

Does that make us mean?

Yeah. I don't like it when people go asking or begging for items that are readily available.

I would never go up to someone and ask them for something for free. I have listed items that I want in certain threads. But everything I've asked for are items that I personally can't get. :)

Okay from a standpoint from someone who has considered it (yes I have, never did it, but considered it) mostly I think it's because we live in an extrememly fast paced world with the internet and a billion electronics that some people are in a "I want this know" sort of mood. I'm not saying this justifies it but when kids haven't been taught by their parents that it's important to work for the things you want (or the parents weren't taught either to be able to pass it on) it's really easy to fall into the mindset of just wanting to ask for things because you want it now now now. Hopefully they'll understand it is ten times better to work hard for something and finally achieve it, then when you just beg for it.

I agree with this to. I'm more then willing to help people who can't get something thats being sold as a special because they can't get into the game. I'm also willing to give out extra stuff i have to people who missed it but it just bugs me if people want you to buy something for them so they don't have to spend any credits. I hate it when people beg for free stuff to, esspecially special stuff that is no longer out

I also agree. I hate it. I will not give anything to anyone for free. In fact I have yet to do my first trade. Just not interested.

I don't think it does. I think people (whether is be kids or adults doing this as we really can't tell) need to figure out that there is a polite way to ask for things, and an impolite way. What would make us mean is they way we might respond to somthing. There is a polite way and an impolite way to do that as well (all though I'm all for answering impolite with impolite though)

I agree with you on the "sold in stores" thing. I've had people asking me to give me my costume items that I've bought this week even though I've been saving up and nedding like crazy. It tires me out to much to think that I saved up and worked hard for all of these items and then for someone to just come up and say "gimmie gimme."

and, nobody is ever TRULY broke in vmk. Maybe we should invite those people to the next mule ball and get them familiar with the concept. ;)

question: "can i have your blah blah blah?"
answer: "wow in the time you wasted asking me, and geting no for an answer, you could have made 20 credits, have you met ned?"

I'm all for gifting, and gifting threads. People just starting i thread aying "i need" ? nah, not quite. People who ask me for things often end up leaving the room, but thats just my personality. If they take the time to mess with my "vam day" lol, i mess with them right back most of the time.

I have clicked on random people i did not even know and seen things like "looking for gracie pin" or "looking for skyway pin" and i have just flat out gave it to them, because i felt like it, not because they walked up and said give me that.

If ANYONE EVER sees one of MY kids just walk up and ask you (or someone else) for something, Let me know. You may not see them around vmk for a while after that, but they'll be back.....eventualy, once they give all of THEIR stuff to people who just ask for it. That should get the point across i think. lol.

I dont like to ask for stuff.Earlier in the week disvaclub gifted me the shirt I didn't have enough credits for.i would have traded.

I realize that greed overwhelms people in these online games, but lets not make a thread on "give me free stuff" the what you want thread is nice because we can simply ask for stuff and try to trade for it instead of begging.

It is especially tough if you are a Community Leader. A lot of guests seem to think we have a "secret stash of goodies" to access and will follow around going "cry, cry" and "please, please".

Just to reiterate, Community Leaders do NOT have access to extra credits or items. We have to earn things the same way every other guest does and we too like to work on our rooms and costumes.

I enjoy gifting players, and do so frequently, but I like to pick the guest and the time and place to do it so that it is a true gift.

Yep,I get tired of people coming up to me and asking for carpet magic.I just tell them sorry not out yet and move on.

. . . a LOT easier to beg in the virtual world. You don't have to look anyone in the eye! Also makes it a lot easier to refuse!

I agree with what everyone else has posted so far.
I enjoy gifting people from time to time for something that they really want and that I have or can easily buy. I enjoy the gifting threads and check them out from time to time. My only problem is that I can't gift quest stuff, because I haven't went to WDW or DL to do a quest.
However, I am tired of seeing people who join the DIS and within their first few posts are begging for items. It seems that almost everytime I get on the DIS there are several of these posts. I love having new members join the DIS and a lot of them are truly wonderful people who are willing to help each other out. What I don't like is those who join and then beg, which annoys me. I don't know if they think that because the DIS is full of such wonderful people, who they see on VMK a lot, are willing to give out handouts to them (the new person) all because this new person is now a member of the DIS. Sometimes I feel that some people are abusing the DIS, which makes me sad.

The only time I have asked for something for free was when it was a loan. I wouldnt ask to keep something for free ever! And the only reason I asked for it as a loan was because I couldnt buy one because they were all sold out by the time I got home from school!

The begging has definitely become a problem in VMK. I always tell them to play the games within VMK to earn the credits they need to buy whatever it is they are begging for. Usually stops them. The real problem I have now is this wonderful, glued to my head Princess Hat! Will the gimmes ever stop?? :rotfl2:

Well, when someone wants an object that they cannot earn by credits or do not have the skill to earn, then asking politely is ok with me.

I really enjoy just giving stuff away to people that don't ask for it. But I also love giving stuff to the kids who cannot get some items on their own.

Personally I am not surprised by the people begging for stuff in VMK. As far as the real world goes, most kids these days get everything that they ask for so who are we kidding when we say that VMK is different. How many of you have limited Christmas or birthday gifts to just one toy? (I know I don't) How many of you actively give to charity or encourage their kids to give to charity? (This is something we do as a family on a regular basis)

And let us not forget that one of our favorite holidays is a begging holiday... Halloween! LOL By the way, I would really like a purple princess hat... :rotfl:
