After Magic bands were introduced we have always just received the bands and no tickets. We have friends (1st timers since childhood) going in late January and they just received bands and paper tickets (Disney media cards???).
I do not know what to tell them as to why they received both.
Can anyone tell me why, so I can pass it on?
Thanks

They likely ordered the tickets to be sent (it's one of the options.)
Some guests actually WANT them (as back-up to the MBs) and some guests just don't know that they don't need them.

BTW, there are no "paper tickets" issued by WDW.
All tickets issued are hard plastic "credit card" type tickets with internal RFID chips.

I only saw pics. Just using "paper" as reference. they look almost like gift cards. I had asked if they requested but they said not. I thought also that you could request them, but am not aware of another situation.
Oh well, I guess they take them along and see what happens.
They say they have their bands linked to their account, so that does not seem to be an issue.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you get the card tickets when you don't get a package. I got a room only discount and purchased tickets separately. The cards would be from the ticket purchase and the magic bands are from the room reservation.

I have an AP and they have always given me an AP card. PLUS the yellow discount card.

You do not necessarily get hard tickets if you don't order them.

If, when you order, you choose some form of actual delivery (one of the choices can be "free delivery") you will
be sent hard tickets.

If you choose "Will Call" as the delivery method, no tickets will be sent.

If you have a MagicBand (purchased or as part of a WDW resort stay... current or previous) you never "need"
the hard tickets, although if you want them, you can order them to be sent, or pick them up ("Will Call") at any ticket booth or Guest Relations at WDW.

I see. I purchased the tickets (and my room reservation) over the phone and the rep never asked what delivery option I wanted so maybe they (or just the rep I talked to) automatically selects the free option. Maybe that's what happened with the op's friend as well.

Don't they send you the tickets by default if you order online? I ordered some for family in recent months and they sent the actual tickets (no magicbands, we still don't have them yet)

Did they come together? I could understand if they came separate because of tickets purchased separately from the room.

sorry I did not ask, but pretty sure they came separate, from various texts we exchanged. that makes the most sense, (rooms and tickets separate), but I do not know if they booked separately and i will not talk to them soon to ask.

There should have been multiple delivery options. Two of the delivery options are free (will call & standard shipping), and there should be express delivery options for an extra fee.

We received our MagicBands yesterday, no tickets. We have a package and our tickets were linked immediately in MDE.

Our grand daughter left her MB in the room one day and we went to guest services and they gave us a duplicate ticket that we used for park entrance and FP. It only took a few minutes. Better than going back to the resort.

If he hasn't been there before, and didn't know he didn't need them, I would doubt that he knew what he did to end up getting them. In the end its no big deal. Kinda like getting paper DME vouchers when you can just use your magic bands.

He got the MBs because he has a resort reservation.

He got the tickets because he ordered tickets. :) (not saying you always get physical tickets when you order tickets now, but obviously that's what happened in this case)

If he ordered the tickets in a way that linked the tickets to his MDE, then he needs to do nothing else. If his tickets aren't also appearing on his MDE then he still needs to link them.

I'm glad I found this thread because I am having a special moment and need clarification...:scared::rolleyes:

I recently ordered my tickets and could not remember what option to choose so I selected the free mail home option. So we received the hard/plastic tickets...which we don't need due to having MBs.

We were just there last year (which is why this is embarrassing for me to admit :sad2:) and I can't remember what option I picked but I didn't receive and hard/plastic tickets last time.

Anyhoo, if I have the hard/plastic tickets are they still linked to our MBs or do I need to call the DVC to make sure they are linked? :confused3 We won't use the cards unless absolutely needed. I feel like such a newb right now. Ugh. :headache:Thanks for any and all help! :disrocks:

fyi, the yellow discount card is no longer issued, it's just the 1 card for AP now and you use that (or your magic band) to get the discount.
