Why are firework shows so late in October?

Just curious why the firework shows are so late in Disney in October? Estimated sunset time is like 7:00 p.m. but shows aren't until 9 and 9:30 in some cases. Plus, with little kids, seems a tad late, IMO.

Or are the times on Disney's site only for "now" and not October?

People stay for the fireworks/projection shows. The longer they stay, the more money they spend. The earlier the shows, the earlier people will leave.

Because the evening shows are typically at or near closing time.

With MK having parties 4 nights a week, there are only 3 nights for fireworks during regular hours, they aren't going to close early. Epcot is always 9:00 or 9:30 year round, except holidays. DHS is usually earlier.

Theres probably various reasons, park closing time, wind in that time of year, etc.

Just a note.
"Sunset" does not mean "dark."

Darkness comes typically about a half hour after "sunset."

(Yes, they could run the nighttime shows at 7:30 or 8:00PM on those nights.)

Because a lot of people hang around at night specifically to see the nighttime shows and then leave immediately after the fireworks end. People who leave at 7:30 or 8:00 don't have as much opportunity to shop, eat and otherwise spend money as those who stay until 9:30 or 10:00.

This exactly. In Oct at MK you'll have MNSSHP four nights a week. So when they do have non-party nights, they tend to extend the hours. In October Fireworks are usually either 9 or 10pm (illuminations/HEA). And honestly...MK is PACKED on non-party nights. Like, REALLY packed. This is the reason im actually avoiding Oct now. Im going during that small window where there's no party at all (Nov.1-8). Yay regular park hours!
