Why are Conservatives attacking SpongeBob??

How foolish......everyone knows that a sponge is a hermaphrodite. Perhaps Dobson and Falwell are too.
LOL!What I don't understand is how can a KITCHEN sponge have any sexual preferences!

ok... I knew that this was comming.
I, a well know spongebob fan, have finally realized that (not that i haven't been suspecting this) that the eniter political and legal system of the USA has utterly lost their minds... Whos next, Hello Kitty? Scooby doo? who else? What about the Wiggles? Pooh? and where is Mickey in all of this?!?!?!
Grrrrr...

My thoughts exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself.

This one section in an editoral really leaped out at me. See http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6853667/
The now-infamous SpongeBob video — or as it is more commonly known now among CRACKPOT Christians, “The Insidious Perpetuation of the Undersea Gay Agenda By Animated Phylum Porifera” — also features such notable characters as Barney, Winnie the Pooh, Bob the Builder, the Rugrats and others. By their participation, I have to assume they are targets as well. The CRACKPOT Christians will ask, “Why is it we never see Barney with a girlfriend?” Or “Is Winnie’s preoccupation with honey just a smokescreen?” And “Exactly what type of ‘tools’ is Bob the Builder busy with these days?”

This situation might be funny if it wasn’t so insane.

Yet rather than dump on the CRACKPOT Christians for placing their heads in an anatomically impossible position, I feel a little sorry for them. By turning SpongeBob into a controversy, they’re destroying the miniscule amount of credibility they might have had in the eyes of real Christians and others. These CRACKPOT Christians have succeeded in doing something I thought would be impossible:

They’re giving Jesus Christ a bad name.
Now I am worried about Winnie the Pooh and the Rugrats.

I would be willing to bet my pineapple under the sea that most people think this type of analysis of a kids video is WAY over the top. .

That was VERY well said.

And just FYI, it was not the spanking part of Dobson's book that got me on the right track with my son, it was the understanding his mentality portion of it AND the emphasis on not getting angry, but firmly remaining in control and being the person in charge. I see much more clearly when his opposition arises and ways to work with his personality without letting go of authority. Personally, I think you can take what you like and what sounds right for you and still gain something even if you don't buy the whole store.

Ohhhhhhhhhh, it is on now! They are going after Pooh. Grrrrr! Leave my pooh alone!!!!!! grrrr....

wait until the nitwits see this:

POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER, a new PBS program
starring Buster, Arthur's best friend, made popular in the ARTHUR series. Each
episode finds Buster in a new place, meeting kids from some cultural
background, doing the things that kids do. One of the families that Buster
visits is a same gender family in Hinesburg, Vermont. One mom has 2 kids and
the other mom has adopted a Child. The kids are around 10 and 12 years old,
and are typical, out-doorsy, Vermont, well-adjusted kids.

Like OMG! They are letting our kids see that! Cultural Diversity! OMG!!! Ban it! BAN IT I TELL YOU!!!

kidding...

Okay, so I am a conservative Christian and I still think Dr Dobson is over the edge. I check out his show once in awhile and sometimes he has great parenting advice, but when he gets into political stuff, he truly goes off the deep end! I will say his book, The Strong Willed Child, got me through the late twos with my youngest. This issue is one of his huge hot button issues though, so I just have to turn the channel. Get a grip and stop obsessing already! (Aimed at Dr Dobson, not anyone here)

I am also a conservative Christian and I agree with you. I really like Dobson for his parenting advice but have to disagree with here and a few other places as well. I cant stand Spongebob but not because theres anything sexual about it I just think its mind numbing.

BTW Is it any wonder Christians, not only on this board, but everywhere feel persecuted? You get these radicals ( both sides breed them BTW) and then people say " why are CONSERVATIVES doing..." well THIS conservative has nothing to do with it ! Just as most of the liberals on this board have nothing to do with some of the outspoken far lefties that we hear spouting off about whatever is going on.

Cant we just accept that we each have our radicals that TRULY do not speak for the masses that they claim represent?

You have to the right to disipline you child however you see fit. But spanking your child on their bottom is not "hitting" the child. It is a form of punishment that teaches the child that there are consequences to their actions. A child of that age has to relize their are consequences, and that age it has to be a simple but to the point.

Again, if that is not your choice in disipline, fine, but don't make people who spank (not hit or abuse) out to be child abusers.

It's assault on an innocent and teaches them that violence is acceptable.

It also demonstrates the parents own lack of reasoning skills.

Actually ... a friend of mine who is gay happened to be at my house when the Wiggles were on theTV. He said "How sweet! Four nice looking gay men singing children's songs." and from that moment on, I couldn't see them as straight again. Not that there's anything wrong with that ;). And yes, I know 3 out of 4 are married with kids.

i know that they are gay, but are they gonna try to BAN them from the tv? that is what i was saying...

It's BAIT and switch??? How funny is that!!?? :boat: How can that guy be taken seriously...better yet, how can he take himself seriously?!!

What really makes me go "huh?" with the extreme Christians (not painting all with a broad brush - just the ones that make a lot of noise about inane things like this video) is that according to the Bible the only one that may judge a person is God. Yet in radical Christians there always seems to be a lot of judging going on.

Its one thing to share your beliefs and even proselytize but they seem to always cross the line into being judgemental. If Jesus were here what would he say about something that teaches children to respect everyone equally? Doesn't it infact instill firmer Christian beliefs in the child to "love thy neighbor"?

Its stuff like this that makes me glad sometimes that I am an agnostic. I live my life as a good person and try the best that I can, and I have a hard enough time keeping myself on the straight and narrow without judging anyone else's behavior.

i almost cried when i saw this on the news earlier. how can people be so mean? :sad1: i could rant on and on about this but i'm just so disappointed in these people for showing such hatred that i'm not sure what the point would be. can you imagine if a disney character was attacked this way? next thing you know they'll be claiming goofy is destroying the proper image of the american family cos he's a single dad.
