I am taking my little (20) sister to WDW for a girls only pre-Christmas trip. She is just crazy to stay at the GF and DH was being super sweet and insisted I book RPC (she thinks we're staying at a Value so the surprise should be great.)

Ok - here's where I get obnoxious and you can all flame me. GF has always been my dream resort, but after resort-hopping on my spring break trip I really want to stay at BWI (plus concierge is waaaaaaaay less $ and I have heard fabulous things about it)! DS says she doesn't care where we stay - she is just glad to be going, but I can tell she really wants to stay at GF. I'm going to do the good big sister thing and stay at GF so please convince me that I'll enjoy it just as much as BWI. I know, this is completely obnoxious. I'm almost embarrassed to start a thread whining about having to stay at the GF! In fact, I'm very embarrassed. I'm going to the laundry room right now to iron and do penance for being such a whiney, snotty brat!;)

I really am going to iron now!

I've always wanted to stay at BWI!! I find it much more interesting..and actually less "snobby" than GF....I'm voting for switching!! :earseek: :earseek: :earseek: ::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Don't be embarrassed. I think it is great that you are making that sacrifice to please your sister. :) I have never stayed at GF so I can't comment on that but I am with you because I personally would rather stay at BWI. I am sure you will have a great time wherever you stay though, especially knowing that you have made your little sister happy. :)

I'm curious when the last time, if ever your sister has been to wdw? I LOVED the gf when i was young, and i always wanted to stay there. When I was planning my honeymoon trip, I looked into it, but decided it wasn't worth the extra money over WL. We went over to GF for lunch the first day, and i'm glad we didn't stay there, i cann't put my finger on it, but it just wasn't as grand or as magical as i remember it being. I'm happy we decided not to spend the money and stay there. If you think you'd be happier at another place, maybe you should go with your instinct. The upgraded from value resort to concierge anywhere would be amazing. Plus think of the 'extra' stuff you could do with the difference in price, you could do a day at the gf, get massages and go to victoria and alberts or something like that.

Whtyger97 - my thoughts exactly! I think the last time DS was at DW was when she was thirteen or fourteen. We could both have an entire spa day at the GF for the difference in price between GF and BWI!

Has anyone just really, really loved Gf?

Um, I forgot I'm supposed to be ironing.

Another one who would pick BW over GF. I say change, save the money, and tell your sister she should be darn happy you are taking her at all. :teeth: ;)

why not stay at both and split your stay me and my daughter want different resorts too so im splitting and i think itll be fun they move your luggage for you and everything.:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Sounds like you need to plan another trip to BWI just for you and DH!! :p :p

No flaming here! I vote for splitting the stay, how long are you going for?
I may flame you for ironing, though. If everyone would just stop ironing, then I wouldn't have to and I hate to iron:D

I do too!! Let's strike!

Hey, 1st time ever to post. Hello, All! My vote is definitely split your stay. DH and I did it for the first time this past January and it was great! Like two vacations in one! If you going for, say, six days, do 3 at GF for your sis and 3 at BWI for you. That way, you both get a taste of something new and exciting!

No one needs to iron anything they wear to WDW!!!!:teeth:

So forget the ironing and just start packing!!:teeth:

We're only staying 5 nights. Is that worth it to switch? Well, I guess if we stayed at BWI we'll be "saving" money so maybe we can squeeze in one more night!

I'm sorry about the ironing! DH wears a shirt and tie every day - I put any money I save by not dry cleaning into my Disney fund!:p

my vote is to stay at the GF this year (wouldn't it feel good to make your sister's "dream come true"?), and stay at BWI next year. I see you have a trip planned for 2005, so maybe stay that 1st night at BWI. & no, it's not whiney ~ it's personal preference.
and.....personally, i like the EPCOT resorts best, but enjoy trying out different resorts (norm the 1st night of every stay ~ we rent a car & pack a one-night-bag, so moving is easy).
start researching EVERYTHING at the GF, make PS's there ~ the excitement of what you're going to do will prob eclipse wondering what you missed! :Pinkbounc :bounce:

(oh, & btw, isn't ironing when one throws the item in the dryer with a fabric softener sheet? ;) :teeth: )

Split your stay if you can, but I think you'll be surprised how much you like GF. It's not snobby at all, that just a misperception. It's very peaceful and also a lot of fun. Of course wherever you end up you'll have a great time because you'll have Disney Magic.

I have found my true home. You all hate ironing and love WDW
I will excuse the ironing if it means you get to save money for your trip.
I think I would split my stay. You don't have any small children to drag along, so it wouldn't be such a pain. Do three days at the GF, and three at BWi

Never been to either, but I've done split stays, and they're still enjoyable!

And yes, LSchrow, that's how I iron!!!!

We booked the GF two years ago. And, after one night we transferred to our favorite, the Beach Club. The Grand is beautiful and the CMs were great, but it was a bit snobby for my taste. And, I didn't like the pool. I think the main thing was we missed the Epcot Resort area. So I can understand why you want BWI.

BUT - this year we stayed at the Poly and it's our new favorite.

So, don't feel bad - you like what you like. But I do think you'll enjoy either one - heck..you're at Disneyworld. Why not split the trip 1/2 and 1/2 between the 2 resorts? There's a thought.

Tho I also would take BW over GF, it's not about what you (or I) would prefer;
It's about Her. Do the right thing and stick with the GF, pls; you know it's the right thing to do::yes:: . You can stay at BWI another time (or do DVC resale and pick up some BWV points and come back every year ;) ).

Good luck in any case. What a nice surprise!
