Why all the political tags?

I have to say I am very disappointed in all the political tags I see on people's signatures. Does anyone else feel this way?

I think we all come to this site to escape reality a little and talk about Disney, not to be bombarded by peoples political opinions.

I am sure you feel strongly about your candidate and that is a good thing, but I feel strongly about whom I want to be president as well but I just don't think this is the arena to be sending that message.

If my thoughts on this are wrong, let me know and maybe I will start supporting my candidate on here as well.

I respect people's decisions to advertise their candidate of choice in their siggies, but I personally agree with your thoughts.

I only need turn on the TV or drive down my street to be bombarded with ads and signs.... I really don't want to see it all over the DIS, but I don't think it'll be stopped.

I just stay away from the heated debates over on the CB and post in more friendly waters!!

.

I totally agree, because I am very passionate about my politics, however, here on the DIS I only want to think of Mickey. Hey, maybe he should run for president!
:rotfl2:

I couldn't agree more. I've blocked signatures, until the election is over. I'm still forced to see the political avatars. :sad2: I don't think there's anything positive to be gained from these signatures & avatars. Will someone's signature change another's mind on who to vote for? No! Could it alienate people with differing opinions? Absolutely! IMHO, the Dis isn't the place for making political statements.

It's bad enough with all the holier than thou on mugs, buttons, car services and the what not, now to push for a candidate? These should be treated as spam and be removed. I get enough of this a home and the TV, I some to the DisBoard to escape reality and here we go again. Political advertising and signatures should be banned also.

I agree completely.

I like reading the community board, but there are SO many political threads and arguments there. Everybody is entitled to their own opinions of course, but like others have mentioned I like to come here as a sort of "escape", and it especially bothers me to be bombarded with all the politics. I wish there was a separate forum just for that stuff so I could avoid it entirely.

Just so you understand why these signatures are allowed, this is from our Board Guidelines

We do not believe in censorship, and open discussions about various issues is encouraged. When participating in a thread, we ask that everyone be treated with respect and that our guidelines be followed .

I know that there are many online forums that limit what is allowed in signatures or require that it all be "on topic" to that particular forum, but the DIS is not that way. Personally that is one of the reasons that I like it so much here! As long as your signature complys with the DIS guidelines for size and decency and doesn't violate our rules and TOS then you are welcome to put whatever you would like in it.

As someone mentioned, there is an option to turn off signatures in your User CP if they are really bothering you. Just remember to turn them back on come Nov 5th! ;)

While it's true the DIS allows it - I definitely agree with the previous posters! I don't like all of the political junk being displayed. We get so much of that everywhere else... but it is not going to last forever, so there it is. I don't like it, but I just tend to look past it all and get to what's really important here - Disney! :wizard:

Wow this is fascinating!
I was just censored on the DIS boards for making a politial joke about not wanting to ride on a ride with a L***ral. The warning message stated "Political comments aren't welcome on the Themeparks board."
I'm totally confused now! It sounds like it's okay to make a political statment in a signature but not in the body of a post. Is that correct? I don't want to be censored again or worse yet put in DIS jail!

I think I'm going to need counseling or maybe..... a vacation.....at DW!:rotfl:

I agree it is a little much but I've learned to totally skip over all the political sigs. I also notice a lot of religious signatures too which kind of irks me, more than political ones. I don't now..religion and politics are touchy subjects so i dont think either need to be on here. Sad part is...the religious sigs will stick around long after the elections are over. :(

Agree on this thread. I come here to see pictures of happy places, read peoples amazing stories . Seeing the candidates on signatures and internet wannabe pundits adding commentary to everything makes me want to vomit.

You say this and you have a Christmas tree in your signature........

LOL! Yes, political messages are allowed in signatures which will appear on any board you post on.

Political statements/messages/discussions etc in the body of a post are only allowed on the Community Board. We have a pretty well enforced on topic policy, meaning that your posts need to be On Topic to the thread they are posted on, and to the board where they are posted. So if you are on the Restaurants board your posts should all pertain to food and dining issues, on the Resorts board, to all Disney resorts etc... From the guidelines:

6. STAYING ON TOPIC: Each of the DIS boards focuses on a specific topic. Please look the choices over before posting on the wrong board. For instance, you don't want to ask about park hours on the Restaurants Board or tell everyone about your stay at the Caribbean Beach Resort on the Disney Cruise Line Board. It makes it easier for everyone to find what they're looking for when the boards stay on topic.

The Community Board is pretty much anything goes (as long as it is family friendly) so that is where all political comments belong. You can find threads to suit just about an political need over there right now!:thumbsup2

By the way, I don't know why, but I have the ability to just scroll past the siggies and barely even notice them anymore. I think it is because my kids are so messy, I have learned to just look past their junk on the floor so I apply that talent here too! :rotfl:

LOL!

Are your kids related to my kids? :rotfl:

I can't tell you how many Matchbox/Hot Wheels cars I've stepped on (in my bare feet) all week!

Must be a mother thing. I do the same thing with the siggies and my kids messy rooms....I figure it is each to their own...:)

LOL true... I do... but by having been 'treed' by another DIS member doesn't mean I'm a die hard Christian. I'm talking about the pictures of crosses, hands wrapped in rosary beads, and 'God is my Savior' sayings that I see all the time. The Christmas tree was a fun thing sent to me by another Dis member. Just like there's Halloween/Easter ones all over the place too. They're all for fun. They're not declaring and screaming our allegiance to one God or another.

:rotfl2: Are they teaching that in the schools now? Just wondering, because it seems to be an epedemic around here - all of my friends complain of the same type of thing about their kids - any my kids aren't immune from it either. It's amazing. The junk gets put away regularly - but it just keeps coming back out and landing right on the middle of the floor! :lmao: Maybe they were confused when their mother and I taught them what a closet is for... and what dresser drawers are for... and a what a bookshelf is for... I just don't get it.

I think all the toys and stuff have watched Toy Story a few times too many and they have all gotten minds of their own...because in our house when I ask...I get a I dunno how they got there...so they must be hopping out their correct places on their own to be all over the floor!!!:rotfl2:
It is a conspiracy by the toys to make us parents batty!!!

I agree. I find it annoying either way. Especially when the tag only degrades the candidate they DON'T like.
Isn't there enough places to go to talk politics?
Plus do you really think that will convince anyone?
