Why do I need to bring air freshner? Do the cabin smell bad?

The cabins smell wonderful..I love the air freshener disney uses.
I have never taken air freshener, never needed it, and still can't figure out why people say bring it.

sometimes the bathroom will have a funky smell. Not every cabin will have it and if you tell the steward they will do something to take care of it. We had a slight smell on two days and told Richie and he took care of it by the time we got back. (Don't know what he did though)

a while ago, people had problems with sewer lines in their bathrooms causing a terrible odor...

the solution to this problem is either tell your room steward OR pour a couple glasses of water down the drain in the bathroom. if the water in the pipe trap evaporates, you will get a sewer smell in your room. We never had that problem, but thought I'd offer the solution just in case.

and then again, there is always that other terrible odor...if ya know what I mean... and since the bathrooms and cabins are all closed up, well, it can get a little unbearable.

If you use an air freshener in your home bathroom, then I suggest you take one with you on the cruise. :earseek:

I know exactly what you mean!! We use air freshners at home and I always pack them when we travel.

We used a new scent on our cruise and now when we use that scent at home, it still reminds us of being on the cruise and how much fun we had!

Air Freshners always serve several purposes. They not only make the air pleasant, but absorb odors. Being enclosed in an almost airtight room for 3, 4 or a week with family members can become quite challenging. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc
We love our families, but remember pool smells, sweat, and bathroom odors rule.

Take the air freshner, pack it first.

Of course, don't forget those that are air fresheners, but also kill germs. There are plenty of those on a cruise ship. Retail brands can't kill the norwalk virus, but there are plenty of other little nasties there.

This thread just makes me cringe----air fresheners actually have lots of chemicals in them that are NOT good for us. Please check out what you are using very carefully. I couldn't figure out for years why my 8 year old was suddenly getting earaches at least 4 times a month! Finally a doctor asked if I had an air freshener plugged in inside the house---sure enough, right outside his bedroom and in the nearby bathroom. He said that formaldehyde in the air fresheners can cause many symptoms, including earaches. Sure enough, got rid of all in our house and in over a year he has only had ONE earache!!!

I know I can't avoid stuff on the ship---who knows what they spray and use in the rooms but I certainly don't want to add to it. We have found a brand of "linen spray" that is safe to use that we bring us and then it reminds us of our stateroom when we return home!

Just be aware that all your spraying may be doing more harm than good please.
