Why address the entire party with the last name on the reservation?

This seems like something extremely silly to get upset over, especially when it is so easy to fix.

What would you rather Disney do, in the cases of traveling groups with multiple last names? Give you a 10 digit number to remember? " Party 4569871265 your table is now available"?

Not even sure what to say here, maybe they need to start letting guests define their preferred names and pronouns for their "dining companion group" 😂🤣.

No, it is that some people get offended or made uncomfortable by the smallest, silliest of things. Letting things roll off of your back when they don't matter is a good skill to learn.

I want to add, it is very rare for me to take a trip where we all share the same last name. Can't even tell you the last time that happened, in fact. It has never ever dawned on me to be offended if my name isn't used. We are all family and love each other, so what does it really matter what they call me on a dining reservation?????It doesn't make me less somehow. Good grief.

We have the same travel dynamic. I make most of our travel arrangements and the bunch if us, with several last names, go with my name as the travel party. I notice on the "thank you" card that we get following the trip, because if I give it to one of our travel parties the name is not theirs, but other than that, no one cares.

I think that if someone really is offended by how the travel group is defined or addressed, that person needs to have the trip booked with his or her name. Frankly, I find the notion that he who pays should be the named party silly. If we did that my poor hubby would have to be named on every trip we take, even if he was not there. For my family, Buddy pays for vacations. All of them. He has not one noticed or cared if his name was on the reservation. If he was consumed with that issue, I would not go.

I can't even remember anyone at Disney addressing us this way. If we are only discussing the mail that comes then I don't even glance at that.
You know, I was thinking the same thing.
We are at Disney every 6 to 8 weeks, for a week to 10 days at a time. We eat at least 1 TS meal a day. In ALL those meals, they've never once called out "Mylastname" party. It is always, every single time, "Angi" your table is ready.

It is simply because they use the last name of the person on the account app of whoever made the reservations. I am the only person in my travel group with my last name. I do the planning, it is using my DVC for the room, everything is under my name. I use my TiW, AP, and DVC discounts, which also have to be under my name and require my ID. No one I travel with has ever had a problem with that, even though there are times they buy my park ticket, plane ticket, pay for some meals, and so forth. If it bothers your boyfriend, then make the travel arrangements using his Disney Experience account.

A lot of them are now taking a phone number and texting the guest. I've never tracked who does or who doesn't. Or figured out why some do and some don't.

No names called period. I'm beginning to think OP just made this up or something cause I don't ever hear "mylastname" party even when others are being called.

I get the frustration. I have 4 children and they have 3 different last names spread between them and my husband has another different last name. Only one of them the same as mine. My youngest sometimes doesn't understand but in my family it is just a normal thing. We will never have anything that has all of our last names on it.

They can't text a non American number (or they couldn't last time with a UK one) And they have definitely called our name. It was a lottery on our first trip because it was our wedding trip, and as such BOTH our names were on the reservation, thereafter, we all changed our name to have the same, but new, surname. It doesn't bother me, but, form of address can be very important to some people.

Same.

Maybe with the exception of Liberty Tree Tavern. IIRC, not only do they state a family name, but they actually state it loudly and also mention which state or country you’re visiting from, also loudly.

Just a heads up to OP that not only do they state a family name, but they actually make a bit of a loud, albeit very brief, production out of it.

Maybe this is something that does vary by location. Just like how some will text numbers, and some won't (even with US numbers). We've eaten at LTT but it's been a few years and I don't remember but that name and city does sound familiar.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's just the name on something like a dining reservation. "Jones party of 5, your table is ready." It's been going on for decades at restaurants everywhere. Could you imagine the craziness if they had to change it something like the following?

"Jones, Smith, Bobby, Sally, and Mike party of 5 your table is ready."

We’ve eaten there a few times and we’ve experienced (and enjoyed) the announcement each time.

For a little extra entertainment, prior to entering the restaurant to check in, we will ask the kids where they “would like to be from” today.

OP here...Listen, I’m going to swear on all that is holy that my boyfriend has been addressed as “Mr Jones” more than once. That we have been addressed as “the Jones Family” more than once. We noticed it even more when staying club level which makes sense. Of course no one cares if they call out just the last name at a restaurant or at check in of a resort. My point is, for resort and dining reservations I have to put all 4 names in so do they even see those names on the computer when you check in? I also think it’s more than being called my last name, but rather being called my ex husband’s last name. It’s kinda funnier because my last name is very Hispanic and we are a very Anglo looking group, lol.
I didn’t say I was crying over it, we kinda laugh about it (did you see my emoji in original post?) but after being called Mr Jones more than once it got me wondering and I posted here, forgetting how mean spirited some folks are when behind their computer screens. The whole point of the DisBoards are people airing mostly First World Problems.... food or service wasn’t good, how to work Fast Passes, little Johnny’s light sabre broke after one hour etc. To take the time to type out a post making fun of me or acting like I’m a spoiled brat for asking something that was clearly worded as a simple question just boggles my mind!

To those of you that did indeed post helpful responses or got my point where it’s annoying, thank you. And yes, there were quite a few of you so thanks!

OP again... 😊
I can’t believe anyone is doubting this happens. It doesn’t happen every time st restaurants, that’s true, not sure why the restaurant part of my question turned into the main focus. However I will tell you I distinctly remember being taken to our table at Citricos and the CM waiting on us greeted us with “Hello Jones Family!” This was after we were seated.
Of course we chuckled and left it alone, we were a party of 6 and everyone had the last name Smith except me. I’m just letting you know it absolutely happens and while it’s no big deal I was curious if it happened to others and about changing my last name on the app. I do think I’m going to put his name on the app from now on.

Oh my. It's a dinner reservation. Most guests just want them to call a recognizable name and get a table. If you're looking for more-including the CM evaluating your possible heritage?-then you are going to be regularly disappointed.
