We are currently booked at Pop...we stayed there last Jauary and liked it. However, when codes come out for January (and I KNOW they will) I could probably get a good rate at a mod. So, how much better are they? What do you think makes them so much better than a value? Do kids like them? (our dd's are 5 and 7)

What are your best reasons for staying at a mod? (and which one???)

Anne

My number one reason...

A POOL SLIDE!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

The value resorts do not have these. I love slides and have so much fun on them. :D
We really like POR, but I think all the mods have a great slide, with the exception of POFQ...that one is pretty simple and quick, it doesn't look as much fun. Have fun deciding!

Just back from POP, rooms are the same size as mods, bus service is great frm POP, Pop doesn't have silde but they do have fountains and my kids loved the pools! Even during the end of Jeanne! I hear you have more food choices at the mods, actual sit down , but I thought th efood court at Pop was great, and besides we are in the parks most all meals.

I almost went up too b/c with codes I would have been spending what I had planned on, but I am glad we saved the money.

Depends what you are looking for and what you want to pay for ... we like the POFQ .. parking isn't too bad..bus service has always been good. It is a smaller resort and easier to navigate than the other moderates and the values. The pool is nicely themed with a pool bar and a pool slide. It has a small hot tub but it is usually crowded. Nice playground ... nicely manicured grounds ... right on the "river" ... rental of boats, etc. down at POR.

We haven't stayed at the value resorts but did visit them when we were considering staying there. I was under the impression that the size of the room is a bit smaller at the values ... you might want to check on that...as I'm not sure.

One poster referred to the value resorts as "stroller ville" which is similar to what we observed. Lots and lots of young kids and unfortunately many were not supervised well ... from what we observed. The activity, since there are many more people there than at POFQ, was of a "higher intensity" ... not sure how else to put it. The food court was always packed and we didn't think that the choices were as good as POFQ or Riverside. POFQ has the boat ride to Downtown Disney area which is nice and not offered at any of the values.

I thought the decor inside the rooms was a bit better and not quite as "stark" as the values ... but that is an opinion.

In the end, I think it depends on what your expectations are ... we often get the POFQ for $79 to 85 per night which is well worth it to us. On the otherhand, the past couple years we have gotten the AKL for about $155 per night (savannah view) and now think that is well worth the extra money -- larger beds, a bit bigger room, separate bathroom area, true closet, balcony, animals right outside the balcony, full service restaurant, food court, fitness center, etc.

I think it depends on your expectations and your budget. Not sure that helps but ....

We make several trips during the year - some quick, some longer. If we're going to be there for several days, we go with the moderates - mainly for the pools, they're just more fun!

If we're only going to be there a couple of days - we'll stay in a value - not going to have time for anything but sleeping anyway.

That said, I do love Pop Century. But Value resorts to me just tend to be louder - don't ask me why - guess it's just been our luck. It's never been enough to ruin a trip - they just seem a little more chaotic.

French Quarter is by far my most favorite moderate. Love the small size of the resort, the pool is awesome, and I love the food court. The only value I will stay at anymore though is Pop Century. All-Stars just don't appeal to me anymore.

I have never stayed at a Pop resort. Have never heard anything that would tempt & have heard lots of things that make me cringe. It's worth the extra money to me to stay at POR -- the beauty & quiet of the place is very refreshing & I like that POFQ is a "sister resort" (so I can use its facilities as well.) Not sure I could bring myself to spring for the deluxe, though. I have a friend who has stayed at all the resorts & he loved the GF, thought it was the most stunning hotel he'd ever been in ... & utterly out of the question ever again! :p

The rooms at the Value resorts are 260 square feet.

The rooms at the Moderate resorts are 314 square feet.

Not a big difference, but with the kids, it may make a difference to you! :teeth:

Thanks Rhonda -- The rooms at the moderates did seem bigger. And that can make a big difference with a family, at least for us it does. I know that when we move from the mod (POFQ) at Thanksgiving to the deluxe (AKL) right after Thanksgiving ... that we notice a big difference in the room size and I believe that is about 30-35 square feet ... similar to that between the mods and values. But, if you are used to a smaller amount of space it may not be that big of a deal. For us, we like the extra room.

I definitely agree with kbkids in that it is louder and more chaotic at the values than it seems like at POFQ and Riverside .. that is a good way to describe the difference. Again, if you don't mind then it wouldn't be a big deal. We prefer the atmosphere and general demeanor of the POFQ and Riverside...though.
