Why 2 days at sea in a row?

For the Eastern cruise schedule why do they do 2 days at sea and then 2 days at Ports? It would seem to me they would keep people a lot happier if they had a chance to get on and off the boat more often and not "stuck" on board for 2 days in a row?

Why not, sea day, port, sea day, port, seaday, port,home?

There are 2 sea days in a row because the ship has to travel a long way to get to St. Maarten and could not do it in 1 day. St. Thomas then is very close to St. Maarten which is why it leaves later at night. In order to make CC the ship has to leave St. Thomas at its departure time. It is too bad it can't stay longer in St. Thomas as well.

We have enjoyed the 2 days at the beginning because you totally unwind and truly get into vacation/relaxation mode because you don't have to rush off somewhere. It has also helped us get to know the ship and its activities betteer.pirate:

:wizard: Like Woody64 said it takes a while to get to St. Maarten, but there are so many on board activities you won't be worried about being stuck on board. Just about anything you can think of they have on the ship so two days at sea will fly by before you know it. :earsboy:

I love the sea days also. :boat: I don't see it as being stuck :crowded: but more as a chance to relax and unwind :cloud9: and use the amenities the ship has to offer. After all, the big price tag I paid :earseek: was for my accomodations on the ship and not the ports. For that kind of money I want to get as much as I can from the ship. I welcome the seas days and was glad to see they were at the beginning of the trip.

i love days at sea, the reason the days of sea are in a row like said before is because the magic has to travel a long way.

THe Magic and Wonder's top cruising speed is about 20knts or 500knts per 24 hours. They can go faster (maybe 5knt/hr) but they don't like running the ship at maximum speed for long periods of time (and it makes the "ride" a lot rougher). BTW "knts" is nautical miles and 1 nautical mile is about 1.15 US land miles.

I see you booked what appears to be your first cruise...in April 0f 2006 you'll know your answer.

And I'd bet that it includes the part where you would have been happy if you had all 7 days at sea!

Happy cruising! :flower:

I guess everyone has covered it...Just wanted to say...why not 7 sea days in a row...I would take them...Just the idea of drifting at sea with nothing but blue water around you, and no clock to punch...hmmmm :cool1:

::yes:: :sunny: :boat:

All I can say is - Why Not????

Just wait, it may become one of your favorite parts of the cruise!

We chose the Eastern for the more days at sea. Its great and you can relax. You will see.

We loved the extra day at sea. :) It gave us more time to learn our way around the ship our first cruise & of course on sea days there are more character appearances for the kids (and us too). :)

Just wanted to echo what The Wog said. Seems like the Wog is blazing the trail for me in many ways-- The Wog has also been on RCCL Enchantment of the Seas and we're doing the Enchantment next February. But yes, we liked the extra day at sea on the Eastern relative to the Western, and we love those islands, and that's simnply how long it takes to get there. Our first cruise ever was from San Juan, and no days at sea, just quickly one island to another from St. Maarten to St. Thomas to St. Croix (or some other order, that's where we went anyway) but that involved a nastier ship (friends don't let friends sail on the empress of the seas) and a flight to san juan. Much easier to drive to Port Canaveral.
