Hello Everyone
We're (DD, DW, DD (7), DS (2)) headed to the World for our 3rd visit in November. We are driving from central PA. We are leaving on a Friday afternoon around 1 PM. Last time around we drove to Columbia, SC and then the rest of the way the next morning. I wanted to get a little closer to the World so the next morning we didn't have another 7 or so hours to go.

Any suggestions of where a good post-Columbia, SC stopping point may be?

we are from Lancaster,Pa and we have stopped at both Point South, SC and Richmond Hill, Ga. Richmond Hill is where i would stop if can make it that far

I know you asked for advice from PA drivers and we're from NJ (Bergen County-about 6 miles from the George Washington Bridge) but, we have done the drive a bunch of times and would be happy to answer any questions.

*you mentioned stopping along the way in SC somewhere, we take I95 all the way down and usually drive straight through but, we have stopped for the night in Santee, South Carolina. Santee, SC is approx. 12 hours from our house so depending on where you are it may be a bit shorter (mapquest says the distance from our driveway to Disney is 1108 miles).
Santee, SC has quite a few motels and also has gas stations, restaurants etc., we stayed at the Country Inn & Suites, nice clean safe hotel with friendly staff for under $100 for the night.

*If you are planning to drive down I95 then I highly recommend the book "Drive I95, an Exit by Exit Guide". I think you can buy it in Barnes and Noble. It's a great book that gives you a basic idea of what is located at each exit along the way (motel, gas stations, restaurants, malls, grocery stores, large retail stores, hospitals etc.) this way you are not guessing about where to stop.

**Any other questions you have just ask, I would be happy to answer if I can. Also, check out the thread "For 2000+ miles Round-Trip Drivers Only!" has great info, very helpful people and even a few people who are regular drivers from PA.

We have done the drive a couple times from SW PA. We typically don't stop on the way down. We have found it better to drive straight thru. Our favorite is to now leave about 7 or 8 in the morning and get into Orlando around midnight.

If you absolutely have to stop but want to get a bit closer, I would suggest around the GA/FL border around Kingsland, GA or even as far as Jacksonville.
