Who's working Thanksgiving?

I am an American living in London, so this is just another normal working day for me! I will pick up Thanksgiving takeout from the best American-run bakery/cafe on my way home though - looking forward to it!

DH will be working. He is a police officer and you usually don't get holidays off unless you put in for them months and months in advance. He does have Black Friday off. DSis and I always go shopping, her DH keeps the kids and my DH acts as our pack mule! lol At least we hare having our Thanksgiving this evening.

A Happy Thanksgiving to all of you who are either working or who have family members who are working.

:wave2: I really don't mind. I like being there for the people who don't have anyone to be with on the holidays. I'll see my family this weekend.

Who else, and how do you feel about it?

I work in a group home, and I am working second shift today. They called and asked me, and I volunteered to do it (selfishly so that they won't call me for Christmas week:rotfl:). While I am at work today, most of the residents will be at home with their families, but a couple will still be there. We will cook dinner and eat it with them (not my turn to cook, so I can just enjoy).

I am doing dinner with my DH, kids and InLaws on Saturday (I'm working tomorrow as well).

I'm shocked that I got today off. My normal "weekend" is Thursday-Friday so it worked out nicely, but I'll definitely be working Christmas and New Years. Some places never close! I'm not going out at all today because I don't promote working on holidays, but I certainly understand why it's inevitable in many fields. I don't think my work location needs to be open on holidays because the sales are really not that great, but it's up to management, not me. They have to work too if we're open :thumbsup2

Working right now actually..:rolleyes1 . I don't mind working Thanksgiving Day because I usually work 8am to 4pm. Besides, working a holiday means double time and a half pay. :cool1:

I do not enjoy working on Christmas, however. That's a big no no..LOL :santa:

This is the 1st year DH will be working. He works third shift as a pressman in a printing factory. They were told this am to be back to work at 7:00 pm tonight! This is the 1st time, in the 14 years he's worked their, he's working on an actual holiday. :headache: Hopefully he can get out early so he can meet us for black Friday shopping.

DF is working 3p-mid which translates to about 1a when he will get home. My mom cooked lunch so we could all eat together. My mom, sis and BIL have gone shopping, my dad and DS14 have gone to the hunting camp.

DD wrecked her bike so I am watching her really close. My have to go to ER instead of grandmas. She hurt her neck and has started complaining of trouble swallowing.

oh I hope she is ok!!
update us when you can:hug:

we did end up in the er. She has a oft tissue injury to the front of her heck and is cuddled up in bed w mommy. She was riding her bike and her foot slipped off the pedal and she fell forward with her neck across the handlebars. Initially she appeared fine complaine of no pain upon palpation to her neck, just some redness, but when we ate she started complaining of trouble swallowing. A few min later she became listless and somewhat lethargic so we took her in.

dr thinks it nay have been a reaction to the pain, as she never had any change in her respiratory sounds. She has a nice strawberry bruise on her neck to show but nothing else. She doesn't remember df carring her out of my moms house to the car.

Oh my gosh, that is so scary! I'm glad she checked out okay at the ER and hope she feels better very soon.

DH is working tonight, but it's ok. Nice to have the place to myself for once. :thumbsup2

I would have rather worked today than during black Friday tomorrow!! Haha. It wouldnt have bothered me in the least...I'll get to see my family all weekend. Retail really sucks the life out of the holidays sometimes...but now that I think about it is it nice to have a day off to mentally prepare for the onslaught of holiday shoppers this weekend will bring! :lmao:
