Who's To Blame? CC or My Bank???

I just happened to look at my checking account online this morning and noticed what they called a return item debit of a little over $200. This amount is the exact same amount as a credit card payment I made online last month.

Since the bank is closed today, I called the bank information line to see what it showed. They showed the debit, but called it a charge back.

I called the cc company and they show no record of any problems with my payments online. In fact, I just paid this month's balance a few days ago and it shows having cleared the bank by both the cc and the bank. So, the cc company says they can't do anything until I send them a bank statement showing where the payment was incorrectly debited.

There's not much I can do until Monday, but I was just wondering if anyone else had ever had this happen?

I think it must just be the week for bank/cc/debit card screw ups. ;) My account shows the credit union charged me for the last 3 months for Foreigh ATM transactions. The only ATMs I have used were owned by the CU itself. Granted its not much but $6 a month adds up.

I am really beginning to hate banks.

My husband has a savings account at his credit union. He wanted to put my name on the account. He called the bank and they said I could not be on the account because I am not an American citizen. ( all our other bank accounts are joint ).

Okay, so maybe the credit union has different rules. But my status is on the verge of changing, so my husband asked that the appropriate bank papers be mailed to us so that we can fill them in at the appropriate time.

the credit union manager's answer?????

NO, I DON'T WANT TO DO THAT, YOU WILL PROBABLY JUST LOSE THE PAPERS BEFORE YOU EVER GET AROUND TO FILLING THEM OUT !!!!!!

Can you believe that???

Let me tell you...the money that automatically is deposited in that savings account every pay day will be going elsewhere immediately !

peachgirl....good luck. I suspect your problem is one that will be easily sorted out. Let us know on Monday please?

You hit the nail dead on! DH and I had a problem with our bank this week too. Last weekend DH transferred over $250 from our joint account to my single account. Now both accounts have plenty of money in them, but from some reason when he transferred the money over, it did not go throught the first time. So DH waited until Monday, to look at the account and both accounts were charged a $25 dollar fee and the money was deposited into my single acount then taken away, then deposited again. DH and I jumped quickly on the phone and told them what was going on, and they credited us back the incorrect charges. They charged us $25 on each account even though their was plenty of money to cover the little bit of transactions we had. We are still baffled as to what happend. We are thinking there must have been someone new or really, really tired while doing bank transactions that particular night. Other than that, our bank is on the ball with everything.

I swear - something is wrong with banks these days! I have 2 checking accounts - one with a bank and one with a credit union - let's just say I never have problems with one, always with the other.

One small example (not really a problem, just annoying): I needed to get some cash out from my bank checking account last week. The amount was more than my daily ATM withdrawal limit, so I wrote a check to CASH and went thru the drive thru. Now, they have little monitors at the drive-thru, so I can see the teller inside. Keep in mind that the check was from this bank - actually the same branch where I opened my account. I see her looking at my check and license a little baffled. The first words out of her mouth? "Do you have an account with us?" HUH???

Sounds like someone just promoted from " would you like fries with that?"

The absolutely most stupid thing ever said to me was by a bank teller. I had recently moved and opened an account at the local bank. One of the first times I went in to withdraw money, I was asked for proof of identity. I gave my drivers license. She looked at it carefully and said.............wait for it...........

" there is a problem, this bank account is in the name of "Jane Smith", the ID says Smith Jane".

I just woke up and my bank shows I have a negative balance!!
They debited my final disney payment twice!!! Now, I have to wait until Monday to fix it and that leaves me with no funds available because of them!!! Thanks for listening.
