What model can I buy that had the dependability of a Honda/Toyota

Anyone bought a new refrigerator that has not had problems?

I have a new GE in New Orleans that has a broken ice-maker. My sister has a new (3 weeks old) Kenmore that quit cooling after 2 1/2 weeks. She's having to wait 5 days just for someone to come look at it.

I've also heard of lots of problems with recent Maytags.

We need a new refrigerator in Arkansas, but I would like to purchase something that will not break down in weeks if not days.

We have never had any problems with fridgs not working after we bought them. But I just have to say, for anyone buying new out there, that Maytag is not the Maytag of old. They sold out their name, and now its made by somebody else. I can't remember who at this second, but the repair man who worked on our NEW Maytag washer for the 3rd time in less than a year, said Maytag is junk now. :sad2: Its not the same quality. :sad2: We found out this the hard way.

We just moved and bought an LG fridge (we got it at home depot.) It has a bottom freezer, and so far I like the amount of space in the fridge. And, I liked that it wasn't too expensive (I think around 900 or so.)

I did a lot of research, and from what I can tell, it's a really good company.

Maytag and Whirlpool merged. We have the Whirlpool front loaders. So far not problems at all. We got them about 5 months ago.

We have an avocado-green reifrigerator, so it's only a matter of time... NIce to know about the Maytag brand, all of our other appliances(washer, dryer, microwave, stove, dishwasher) are about 10 year-old Maytags & we haven't had any problems...yet.

agnes!

I'm just not used to refrigerators breaking down so fast these days. I want to find the Honda or Toyota of refrigerators.

We got a Whirlpool Gold in March and it stopped working in 2 1/2 weeks. They came right out and fixed it. It was something simple, something didn't get plugged in all the way inside the refrigerator in the plant. They were going to replace it all together, but we decided not to bother.

I feel your pain :guilty:

I have a 2 1/2 year old Amana with the bottom freezer drawer... which I :goodvibes LOVE, btw... and it quit cooling over the weekend. :confused3
I have a Worryfree contract with PSE&G and they are sending someone out tomorrow morning, thank goodness, so I'll know more then... hopefully it's something simple and covered under my contract

We have GE appliances. We bought them all 2 1/2 years ago. We have not had any trouble with them at all. We went with middle of the road quality- not the cheapest, not the most expensive.

My fridge is a hand-me-down from my folks, it's going on 20 years old.
Home Depot is offering 12 months finance free plus a rebate on delivery, so we're really considering buying one. It HAS to be more energy efficient, right?
I'd love the bottom freezer style. I looked at the LG version, but the bottom freezer had a door and I want a drawer for space issues. They had a nice GE one for about $1000 with a freezer drawer, with a $100 gift card.
I guess we'll be buying the extended warranty.

I am having a new GE Profile french door botton freezer delivered in the next 2 hours.

Our old Amana is older than my son who will be 18 this weekend.

I want this new one to last until all three kids are through college (12 years).

too much to ask?

un oh here they are.

I've gotten lucky with our Kenmore french door fridge---buying appliances make me paranoid though after the couple Maytag fridges we've had over the years. One was possessed & used to spray water out of the door dispenser for no reason (no one would be near it, much less using it!). Never could figure out how or why it was doing that, nor could the repair people! :rotfl:

I bought our 2 refrigerators on the advice of Consumers Guide. I love them both! The first one is 17 years old and is in the garage for over flow and soda at the holidays. It still runs like a charm, but its gotten that used up and battered look to it. Its a Amana side by side, a great appliance. Our second is a Samsung sider by side and it has all the bells and whistles, again not (a little over a year) a bit of toruble so far. Consumer Reports has great advice for buying many everyday items for your home and for automobiles.

I swear by Whirlpool for many of my appliances. For me, it's a good description to say they're the Honda/Toyota of refrigerators. I had one refrigerator for 15 years, only replaced it because we were having our kitchen redone, and the avocado green just didn't match. And after 15 years, I figured I deserved a new one. That new one lasted at least 13 years (it may be still going for all I know). When we moved 2 years ago, the new owners wanted it left and DH was all excited that our new house was already plumbed for a refrigerator with ice/water in the door. You can guess which brand we bought, of course.

I would have to say Kenmore is a good brand. That is what we have had for 5 years and never had a problem.

As far as Maytag I would agree on their product lately. We have a washer and it broke down 2 times in the first year. The service was very good but this should not happen.
