Who's snorkled in GC? Help!!!

When my son was about 11 we went snorkling at GC and he found a silver dabloom.....a piece of 8. We had just walked along the sea wall from where we went ashore and found a place where we could access the water....steps down to the water. He was snorkling and I was sitting on the bank watching him. He said, "Hey dad, I think I see a quarter." I told him to dive down and get it. He did. He swam over to the bank and handed it to me. it was mostly black with tarnish and I knew immediately it was silver! It was very weathered but you could barely make out the marking on it. Later that day we went into a local jewlery store and found a necklace with a piece of eight coin.....for $300.

I am a SCUBA diver and have made numerous dives all over the world and have never found anything this cool. This was my son's first time ever snorkling and he finds treasure!

If someone can tell me how to post a picture of it, I will post it.

Oh that's cool! Use photo bucket and copy the link in a post

since I see you are using photobucket, look to the right on the screen you linked

see where it says 'links to share'

the last one says IMG ... copy that to your clipboard

Not giving the a bad rep, they are cool I'll have one in my new tank (a snowflake eel) but they are the ill tempered of the eel family. Not known for attacking but they are territorial like a rattle snake, Just stating facts.

I've thought of it but.... I have a fear of breathing under water! I don't know why I just do! I love snorkeling and the DH & I have talked about trying the tek helmet dive, this may make me change my mind. I almost booked in on the cruise we did for NYE but chickened out. This summer I'm buying a prescription mask (tried the contact thing didn't help) so u can see better. It will be good quality in case I get more into it.

I enjoy snorkeling very much and I understand your fear but that is what the dive lessons are for. The basic Open Water course is all you need and typically your first dive is in a pool. I know people have talked about the helmet dive and although I've never done it nothing compares to real diving. Check out a few of my scuba diving photos at GC. No way you would get these snorkeling.

OMG you his the sweet spot! Two of my 3 favorite things! Marine life, photograph & DCL! Guess I'm going to think harder about it!

I agree 100% with Eden Roc. I'd read many good reports about it and can't agree enough. We were just there a couple of weeks ago. We rented a locker for $5 and hopped right into the water. We have our own snorkel equipment but I believe they will rent it to you too. Very nice person gave us recommendations on where to swim. I saw a sea turtle. My son and husband saw squid. LOTS of fish! Tremendous snorkling and a pretty easy walk back to the ship.

We've also gone out with Nativeway and enjoyed that too.

We are approaching our excursion booking window in less than a couple of months. I thought about the Snorkel and 2 person boat excursion, but now that I see these pictures and suggestions and it has led me to other sites, I wonder if we should just go to these beaches and snorkel right from the shore. Is it possible to rent gear, snorkel at one beach, such as Eden Rock, then walk further down and snorkel at another beach, too?

BTW, here is a site that described some snorkel spots accessible from the beach- at least that is how I read it. ]

Visited Cayman for 2nd time on Fantasy. Fam of 4 had own snorkel gear so headed to Cemetery Beach by taxi/bus. Don't get in w/ "off boat taxi herders- sat and waited till FULL and charged more." Walk across road to taxi stop for quicker trip and better rate. Had dry cat food to feed fish and underwater camera. Saw many varieties. A bit choppy but definitely worthy w/out cost of excursion. Didn't need tons of time to get $$ worth. Back at ship w/plenty time to spare. Check other cruise sites-cruise critics-for snorkel spot details.

I've snorkeled on both of OP's excursions.

The Shipwreck snorkel was over 10 years ago and we were pretty much in front of the Magic when we were at the shipwreck. They fed the fish there and there were a lot of them around. The weather was great as was the visibility. We then moved to snorkel at a reef - we really didn't move the boat that far. I really enjoyed both locations.

We snorkeled at the Kittiwakke a few years ago - skies were cloudy and stormy - mostly and therefore the water was not as "clear" - mostly due to the light (well the black clouds that blocked the sun). I did enjoy snorkeling around the Kitiwakke. The ship was easy to see and there were a lot of fish. The snorkeling over the reef was not as good (again, I blame the weather). Here are some pictures of this excursion.
