Who's kids watched Pirates of the Caribbean?

Thanks for all of your replys!

I did watch it first and recorded it. The next morning I let dd7 watch it with ds9. She really wanted to see it because he talks about it alot. I told her it was all pretend, and of course she understands that, but she still covered her head with the blanket quite a few times, and we told her when that scene was over. She didn't mind the skelotons, she knows it's pretend, but she doesn't like the fighting and stabbing, which I don't blame her. I absolutely never let her watch stuff where there is stabbing or anything like that, so she's never really even seen it before. I told her the only reason i'm letting you watch this is because it's a Disney movie(how bad can it be for you right?) Well she did get to see it, so she's happy now, but I don't think we'll be playing it again anytime soon. But me I loved it , I want to get my Mom to watch the kids so dh and I can go see POTC Dead Man's Chest with ds9, who of course loved it. pirate:

My two oldest have watched the first and the second one. My daughter is almost 13 and my middle son is almost 9.

As everyone else has said, you have to watch it first. There is no swearing, minimal blood (a pirate is shot at the end & blood spreads across his shirt), but there is violence, and the skeletons could be scary for some. All that being said, we let DS (5 1/2) watch it on DVD. Skeletons do not scare him (um, they scared me though!). He really likes this movie & the whole pirates thing. DH is a computer geek and goes into great details on computer animation...whether it's penetrating into DS's brain is another issue.

After talking to other people, to get a heads up on the more intense scenes, of Dead Man's Chest we decided to take him. We all enjoyed the film, but DS whispers to me, "when are the skeletons coming on?" I discovered he couldn't wait to see them again!

As a side note, we have talked, numerous times, to our children that movies & TV are fake. The best example I know is to show him is that actors are on more than one show (the first example we had was Mr. Noodle's cousin, Mr Noodle on Sesame Street. He also was in Sister Act).

Good luck with your decision

We have let DS watch it with us. At his age, the attention to the movie (not being animated) is minimal. I don't think I would let him see POC 2 yet though. Davy Jones is just too creepy as are his cast mates. Best choice, as noted many times before is to watch it and make your decision based on your child. You do know them best!

I had to close MY eyes several times during the first movie (just watched the DVD last night-had seen it before but a long time ago and I couldn't remember the plot.) There's no way I'd let a 4 year old see it. My kids are 6 and 9 and they definitely won't be watching it anytime soon. The fork in the eyeball was the worst scene for me.

my 14 yr old loves it mr johnny depp...my others uh that is just not happing for my 2 yr old and 5 they just have no intrest

Depends on the individual. I myself only watch movies where people die of natural causes. :)

That being said, DD(14) has been a scary movie nut since she was about 4 years old. She likes nothing better than having the living daylights scared out of her by these movies. Her and DH sometimes rent these horrible slasher/chainsaw movies and sit up and watch them after the rest of us go to bed.

She is a lovely girl, 3.8 GPA, pleasant and not at all a lunatic. Amazingly she doesn't have emotional problems from watching the Texas Chainsaw Massacre when she was 5! Now my DS(8) would have nightmares for weeks watching those types of movies, so I don't let him. He did watch part of the POTC movie, but it seemed to scare him a little, so he just left and went into his room to play instead!
