Who's in for GREECE and TURKEY, June 15 2003????

Well I just checked. Still no Greece or Turkey shore excursions posted. They are killing me. Anyone have any info on when they will post? Just curious about why those three. I am very excited about this cruise. My wife and I have been to Europe back in 2000, but now we have kids and we are taking them on the cruise.

We decided to make the most of it since we will be in Europe. We are going to fly over on June 6 into London, then travel to Paris, and then to BCN. We will be in BCN a day prior and a day after the cruise. Hope that gives us plenty of time for BCN.

I have used the Londons Walks tours in London and they are great. They have a Paris Walks tour group in Paris. Has anyone used them? What tour groups have you used in Paris? I saw someone had posted a group in a previous post to mine also.

Hello all! What an amazing amount of info!!! Thank you so much to all those that have posted. This cruise will be our first with Disney and our first to the Med. It will be myself, DH, DS (9) and DS (5). Any thoughts on ports of call that may be just for my DH and myself and if so has anyone gone on their own and left the kiddos on ship?

Welcome to the group! I added you to the June 15th Cruisers list (see link in my signature line) and also there you can find the link to add yourself to the Roll Call Spreadsheet.

We are doing this cruise and the next one back-to-back. On the next one, we are planning to have just the two of us going on an excursion from Civitavecchia and leave our teens onboard. I think with the ages of your children, check to see what youth activities will be available on the port days to know that they will be open - I think they typically are open for just such situations as yours - I think you do have to (or at least should) let them know you will be leaving the ship while the kids stay onboard. As our kids got older, we would leave them on the ship while we went into town - somewhere close. This will be the first time we'll go off on an excursion too far for us to walk back without them. But we're doing it through DCL so we have less worries (and really, so the boys will have less worries) about us not making it back before she sails.

DCL offers a lot of "with families" excursions in ports - so they do tailor the pace of the excursions to be a bit more accommodating vs those that are adult departures only.

I think it has to do with DCL / Disney not having been to those areas before. The ones they have listed already are for ports they've been to before and/or have done Adventures by Disney in. That's why they've been able to get those up already. I remember waiting AGES for shore excursions to come out in 2007 and again in 2010 for the Baltic - they have to arrange and negotiate, etc. for the tours. It's getting close, though... I think we can start booking March 2nd so I know there are people who can book before us.

I am guessing it is because those are new ports for DCL, whereas the others they have been to before and already have relationships established.

DCL offers a lot of "with families" excursions in ports - so they do tailor the pace of the excursions to be a bit more accommodating vs those that are adult departures only.

Regarding this, you don't have to tell them you are leaving (they typically have asked us though), because they will know if you are onboard or not on their computer. We have never left ours for an excursion (though we tried once, in Costa Maya last April, for a kayak trip, but it was too windy so it was cancelled), but we have gone into port to walk around and left them on the ship. Once we didn't say where we were going and initially didn't plan to leave the ship. But after we dropped off the older ones in the club, the little one fell asleep in the stroller, so we decided to drop her in the reef and walk around the town. One of our kids wanted us at some point, and they paged our friends who were authorized to pick up. They said when they looked up our kids on the computer to get the wave phone #, it showed we weren't on board so they called the friends. They also know as soon as you are back on, as we have been there when they were paging parents of young kids who were there all day while parents went on excursions (this was on the 2007 Med), the kids were crying and just totally done being there for the day (it had been 12 hours and they were 3/4yo), they said they knew the parents were back, but they still weren't answering the page.

But yes, the clubs are open all day in port, they open up before any excursions begin so you can leave the kids if you want to.

Those "families" excursions have been the source of my unhappiness with DCL lately. I have been emailing them to try to get some sort or logical explanation, or, preferably, a change, in the ages allowed. The "youth exclusive", "for kids", "for families" almost all have age restrictions of 5yo+. I will have a 3yo. I can do the mirror image excursion (which generally sees the same sights, but is slightly longer and might include more events), but not the ones for kids. Extremely frustrating. After many emails that just kept repeating a form answer, I finally got someone who said he is looking into it with port adventures to hopefully modify the age restrictions to include younger kids.

I got a call in the middle of posting my response, but yes, I agree, I think that is the issue.

Our date is 10pm on February 14th (we're in AZ time), so I am really hoping they come out this week because I'd like time to look at them all, discuss it with my husband, my mom, and our friends sailing with us. My youngest's birthday is next week, I'm going to San Diego with my son for a weekend, and am totally getting stressed over the excursions and thinking that I won't have enough time to totally be set with a decision.

Is that your excursion booking time or your PIF date. They aren't the same date. For Europe PIF are a bit before you can book excursions.

We are arriving in Barcelona on Thursday morning before sailing on Saturday. We plan to use the HOHO bus for our tour of Barcelona - we rode it in 2007 for a couple of hours but were so exhausted from the flight over that we nodded off through it - but it was worth doing and we're doing it again but will actually Hop OFF at a few spots :) We will probably just get the pass for one day (Friday) and on Thursday just see what we can see in the area near the hotel. We also have one night in BCN after we get back before going to the airport the next morning, so while we're in BCN pre-cruise, we'll figure out something we'll want to do when we get back.

It's a shame when people come in so late that they miss the departure port as a port - we felt that way in 2007 and took it as a "lesson learned" when sailing - make sure to have time to see the departure port :) We did that for Vancouver and London and really enjoyed those couple of days pre-cruise to get our bodies used to the new time, rest from the travel to the port, and get to see where we were.

We are arriving on Thursday as well. If I remember correctly we may be on the same Delta flight out of Alanta. Like you in 2007 we went in just the day before and saw just a little of the city. DSIS and DBIL used the HOHO bus when they traveled in 2011 Med cruise so we plan to use it. According the them the bus stop is very close to the Barcelona Rensiance (or whatever it name is now!) Also we are flying out the day after we return. There is a shore excursion for disembarcation day that will take you back to a DCL hotel or the airport. Sue

We feel the same way. Our booking date is the same as you however we are on the East coast so it is 12:01 am on the 15th! After doing this a few times and having to go to work DH has now place this in my "trusty hands" according to him. It is more like why should we both stay up. His suggestion is that if the 120 days is not a Saturday or Sunday they should make it earlier/later so it is. I told him the only challenge is really the cruises with new ports that when we do the Bahamas out of Miami in December we can book in the morning since there wont be as many folks in our category and the only thing we are booking is dinner at Palos. Sue

Is anyone doing a tour of Barcelona on their own? Last DCL cruise out of Barcelona they had some options on the embarkation day but I don't see any listed on the website (at least yet). We have a whole day prior to embarkation day so we'd like to do some things in more detail this trip. Suggestions welcome!

We arrive the morning of the 12th and will do all of our own touring in Barcelona. (As previously suggested) I'm a huge fan of HOHO buses. And on past vacations when we've only had one day in certain cities they were our go to plan because we could get a lot in and not get lost. And Rick Steve's Barcelona 2013 is our new best friend.

The red-eye from ATL that leaves on June 12th / arrives June 13th? That's the one we are on - direct from ATL to BCN. We are spending the night of the 11th in ATL. My brother lives there so we'll have dinner with him and he'll drop us off at a nearby hotel - he has to work the next day and it's his birthday the next day, so we decided to get a hotel room to sleep over and hang out and then just take the airport shuttle over to the airport after a late check-out. We're staying at a hotel we stayed at last summer - only last summer, we checked in at 9:30 pm and out at 4:30 a.m. - this time we'll get our money's worth :) My brother will be keeping our car for the month we are gone. I had looked at rentals and while it's really cheap to do a one-way rental from our hometown to ATL, it's super expensive to do it the other way around.

That is it we leave ATL on the 12th and Arrive on the 13 around 8:30 am. We are starting at the Williamsburg Newport News Airport in VA. It will be DH , a friend of ours and me! DSIS and DBIL follow our route the next day and BFFs of their fly in also the next day but on British Air out of Dulles. So it looks like we can meet up at the airport in Alanta. Sue

Excursion booking date. Our PIF date was, I think, the 12th. We paid around the 3rd or 4th so I am not entirely sure, but it was definitely before today.

I agree, a weekend would be invaluable. What gets me is that every single cruise we have taken, the website has issues at the booking date/time, and I am up forever. We used to live in DC, so it meant 3am many times and I was insane the next day. At least now we're on the West coast, but still not what I want to do on a weeknight!

HOHO is a good idea. We did two general tours when we were there before the 1st Medi cruise in 2007 but we really want to go in some of the churches, etc this time. I will look into the HOHO. We are staying at the Grand Marina (we loved it last time)so hopefully there is a HOHO stop close by. We arrive on Thursday (IAD-BRU-BCN) so we will have all day Friday to enjoy the city.

I have seen 4 excursions listed for Barcelona listed on the DCL website. I have seen them for the last 2 (?) days. They seem to be 1/2 day excursions. We are coming in a week before the cruise and plan on doing 2, maybe 3 days in Barcelona on our own. The rest of the time we will explore other parts of the nearby area.

Another day with no excursions for Turkey and Greece :confused3we are at 30 days for us to book and counting down!

All of those drop off at the airport (or pick up maybe). I was kind of frustrated that that was all they offer. We are doing the 7 night before this one and figured we could kill a few hours on switch day with an excursion, but that doesn't seem to be an option. We have some days before the first cruise where we'll see all the major stuff we want to, but thought it might be nice to get off the ship awhile between cruises too.

Maybe you could arrange a private tour to come pick you up at the ship and bring you back - just as you might do in one of the other ports? We were wondering what we might do on our switch-day, too - but as we've never done a B2B and we'll have had time in BCN pre-cruise and a day when we get back, we thought we might just enjoy the B2B experience and see what happens (while we stay onboard and nearly everyone else leaves).

Have any of you ever done B2B? What's it like on switch day?

We did back 2 back LA to Vancouver then Vancouver to Alaska in 2011. You have to get off the ship but can wait until everyone is off and then get back on before the new passengers. From what I understand in FL you dont even have to get off the ship so I do not know how it is handled in Barcelona. You could call DCL and ask. Some folks for Alaska got off in Vancouver and saw the sights making sure they were back on the ship by 3 to make the 4 muster drill.

Sorry to say we are cancelling our cruise. Hope you all have a good time.

Hey Sue ... I got off the ship ... walked about half a block and had a yummy Tim Horton's coffee ... It was sooooo gooooood .. I also spent time calling home! It was great to use my Cell phone without having to worry about roaming charges :)

I remember back in 07 ... we did a tour after we boarded the ship? Surprised they are not doing it again?

By the way ... 150 days to go!!!!
