How did it go for you or your kids? Any reactions? Anybody heard of any negative reactions? I usually like to wait and see on things like this but I'm getting worried for my DS who is a teen, which seem to be a group very hard hit by this. Thanks for any insight.

Please don't post how your NOT going to get the vaccine unless you have some concrete example of harm it has done, not just the usual vaccine horror stories. I've heard all those.

My DS(10) just got innoculated for H1N1. 101.5 degree temp, coughing and body aches... So, he won't need the vaccine...

The vaccinne is not available in our area yet and the doc we visited yesterday about DS said CDC directions were to only innoculate 6mos-25 yrs old until further notice when they do get the vaccine. Then those in specific risk groups.

The other bummer is that due to the limited supplies of tamiflu, they won't prescribe it unless the person is in certain risk groups, so son will have to suffer through the full effects of the flu. So far, ibuprofen has kept his temp down to a manageable level and he's not too miserable.

BTW

I talked with my brother (who is an MD and on his county diesease control panel) and he said unlike seasonal flu, which annually only affects 10% of the population, H1N1 will likely affect 80-90% of the population. If you didn't get swine flu in 1957, you will likely get it now unless you are vaccinated. There won't be enough doses, so most people will get it. Idaho only got 9,000 doses in this first distribution. It's not an especially virulent strain, so for most people, it will be 3 days of sick and then you should start feeling better. It's not as bad as regular seasonal flu.

The big risk is for those with pre-existing respiratory conditions.

Just curious, but did you get confirmation your son has H1N1? My son had all the symptoms last week (fever of 102.7, sore throat, cough, terrible body aches) but he was negative on the flu swab. Since the swab gives a 50%+ false negative reading, the doctor put him on Tamiflu because of his asthma. He did not improve on Tamiflu and was sick for another 3 days. He is still recovering but is much better.

I'm going with the idea that he just has some other type of respiratory illness that is out there. Just curious how you know your son has H1N1.

They are no longer testing for H1N1, the swab is just to test for type A influenza. My DS had a BAD flu last year which tested positive for type A but later testing came back negative for H1N1. I'm not sure how trustworthy the second lab test was but anyway...

So when you see reports of however many people having swine flu all they are really saying is this many people have flu like symptoms. That's what it says on the CDC's website.

I know some people had they're kids inoculated early. I wish they would post their kids reactions.

I just went and got a flu shot today. I'm not sure which one it was I never thought to ask. I was just happy to find a place that still had shots in stock. Other than a sore arm where they gave me the shot, I feel fine.

My 2 year old DD received dose 1 of 2 of the mist on Wednesday and she's fine.....she had a cold before the vaccine but that cleared up and she's back to normal. No adverse reactions at all.

If you went and got a flu shot today, it was most likely a seasonal flu shot. There are very few H1N1 vaccines even available yet.

That's what I figured. I called a couple of places and was told that they didn't get the H1N1 yet and to call back in the next week or so to check again.

I feel that with me getting the normal flu shot today, I have done what I can to stay flu free.

:scared1:

I hope there are a lot of responses to this thread, those who have had the vaccine. This statistic makes me VERY interested!

My 3 year old son and I got the h1n1 mist last Thursday. No side effects for either of us. My daughters Dr. expects to get the shot in early next week, she currently is having asthma like symptoms so we decided not to get her the mist.

:confused3Really?

Why does he think that?

I'm intrigued also. I'd like to see something to back up that statement.

I'm worried about H1N1 also of course, but statements like that without proof don't help anyone. Panic never solved anything.

I will get the shot when available, but being 36 and healthy (knock wood), I'm not in the list of people who should get it first.

The CDC hasn't even come out with any number close to this. Where did he pull this number from?

My younger DS, who is 2 1/2, and I got the mist last week. Other than about 1/2 day of diarrhea for him (and he has food issues anyway...may not be the mist), we are fine. He goes back in about 3 1/2 wks for the second mist.

So...a-okay in my book...

I was wondering myself.

Again, CowboyCO, PLEASE tell us where your doctor brother heard this. It is a lie, so I don't think it should be spread on a message board.

I agree that it is not helpful at all to read information like this without some way of checking the validity of this statement..

Hopefully CowboyCO will come back to clarify..

I actually remember hearing this someplace a couple weeks ago. If I can find it, I will post it.

We all would appreciate that.. It's hard keeping up with all the info because it seems that new stuff is coming out most every day..

I saw a map on television today that was showing where this H1N1 virus was widespread and all states were included except 4 or 5.. One was in the northeast somewhere (might have been Vermont or NH) and I can't remember what the others were.. If I see it again, I'll pay closer attention..:goodvibes

from gallup.com

the President's Council of Advisers on Science and Technology estimated in late August that as many as 50% of Americans will contract the so-called swine flu this season (compared to 5% to 20% who get some form of influenza in a typical year)

This is for THIS SEASON only...
