Who's Goofy??

Good to hear that training is going well for (mostly) everyone.

I made it through a 25 miler, walking the last 2 miles yesterday. I could have plowed through, but I hit the wall and was in death shuffle at 23. Going that deep would have left too much on the training field. This was the big one to worry about. At least I didn't need to use my emergency, sub-lingual, aspirin. I'm not in the post marathon waddle, the day after, so I think I'm OK.

Christmas weekend I need to do a back-to-back Saturday 8-10 miler and a Sunday 12-14 miler.

I've been on a four week cycle where I do a real long one and two weeks later I do a longish back to back.

While a bit sobering, this advice is really good to hear. It helps to know what we're up against, so we can begin to get ready, mentally.

For me, my post race beer and pretzel in Germany will serve as my motivation during the full! :thumbsup2

DH is running his 2nd Goofy - and do to some work issues he's not training as he has in the past - so I've been reading quotes here -

He laughed and added this sage advice:

Dont sit in the porta potties towards the end - you'll realize how good sitting feels and wont want to get up!! :rotfl:

Well, according to Galloway's turaining plan, I should have walked 12 miles today and run/walk 26 tomorrow. Since I had a good back-to-back run over Thanksgiving of 10 mile R/W and 23 mile R/W, I wasn't too worried about doing another back-to-back this weekend. Did 18.25 miles today. Had some arch pain the last few miles due, I think, to my shoelaces being too loose. Might try to run 6-8 miles tomorrow but have so much to do to get ready for Christmas. I've been battling a cold too. Mostly, I want to stay healthy and injury free.

Hope everyone's training is going well!

I'm about as trained up as I will be now. Hoping everyone is doing great and will stay healthy. Won't be long now.

20 miles done last weekend and into the taper now. I did miss a run due to some travel for work and I'm not sure how the next few days will go with Christmas, family visits, and general new toy mania with my 5 and 6 year olds but I will need to get something in to counteract the food I will be eating.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

Two weeks from now we will hopefully be sleeping in WDW, all our gear prepared, ready for day 1 of the experience (or day 2 for the Dopey folks).

Just registered last minute for 5K so it's Day 2 for me. :cool1: Planning on having more fun in January than I had in this year's Dopey.

To all, stay healthy and strong.

Who is doing the Goofy Challenge this January? ME!!!

What are your training plans for the next 7(make that less than 2) weeks? Taper madness! I ran 20, 22, 23, 20 with corresponding half distances the day before. I had to fit them in where I could because I have a toddler, work full time and my DH works full time too, but opposite days and schedule as me. Please somebody remind me of this next time I say I want to run Goofy. The scheduling of my LRs and everything....it has been very challenging!

What if anything do you plan to carry with you on the course. I will carry 3 gels on Sat and 7 gels on Sunday. I also carry a handheld bottle with my inhaler in the zip pocket. I have a SPIbelt for my iPhone, ID and KTTW. I'll drink on course water at the beginning, but not at the end and I may or may not grab an additional gel if I see them. I will also bring some E tabs. I take them in the off time of my gels. 1 per hour if it's cool and 2-3 per hour if it's warm. Yes, I am a pack rat.

Are you running or walking the challenge? Run/walking both. I'll do a 2/2 on Sat and a 4/1 on Sunday. Planning on around 3 hours for the half and around 5 for the full. No worries on time though if it doesn't pan out that way. It's a "just finish" race when it comes down to it!

If you have done the Goofy before, what is your best advice for a first timer?I'm a first timer! Ran the full back in 2009, W&D last year. Yep...it's a bit SCARY! :scared1:

I just wanted to say that all you Goofy folks are amazing. I just started running this year and my first half will be in 11 days at WDW!

As I was doing my 10 mile run this weekend, all I could think at mile 6 is that the Full marathoners and the Goofy runners have incredible dedication and stamina.

Y'all are AWESOME! Best of luck in your races!!!!

Hi there!

I've been reading the marathon boards/threads for months and decided I would finally say hello!

I too am signed up for the Goofy! First timer! I've run in the Disneyland Half the last 4 years. Every year i've always talked about how I would love to get that coveted Coast-to-Coast medal and if i'm going all the way to Orlando (Live in Las Vegas), I'm going to give it my best shot and go for Goofy!

I've been training diligently since the middle of February and should hopefully be able to finish the half and full with no problems (knock on wood).

My bib # is 24501. Not sure of the corral, but I should be able to move one or two slots as I had a better time this past half DL marathon than I did the year before, which is the time I had registered with the Goofy for.

Staying at All-Star Movies!

I'm starting to nervous but a good kind of excited nervous! Good luck to everyone who's participating in any of the events next weekend!

Hey Kyle! Welcome aboard! Sounds like you're all set to handle the Goofy, best of luck! :thumbsup2

We are only 7 weeks away from the Marathon weekend. Where has this year gone, seems like only a few months ago that I finished the Goofy and swore I'd never do that insanity again...Humm seems like I said that twice before also. It is an interesting event and very doable but it does require a certain amount of strength of will, especially the last part of the marathon. Once you enter the Disney Studios your body is pretty well on auto pilot and your mind knows that you are gonna make it.

Who is doing the Goofy Challenge this January?

What are your training plans for the next 7 weeks?

What if anything do you plan to carry with you on the course.

Are you running or walking the challenge?

If you have done the Goofy before, what is your best advice for a first timer?
Please add your thoughts for others.

Thanks.

Dave:hippie:

This will be my first goofy, 4th Disney marathon and tenth marathon and sixth half. I am currently recovering from a mild strain on my left ITB after doing Hartford and Philly marathons, so I plan to run/walk in five minute intervals. I plan to carry one power bar gel on saturday and five gels and a cliff bar on Sunday. I also called ahead for a wheelchair for Sunday afternoon!

Best advice for a first-timer: enjoy it! Have a nice and easy run on Saturday, take lots of pictures, and walk around some afterwards to keep your legs from getting tight. On Sunday, do the same. Go easy, take pictures, talk to the people around you, and enjoy all the parks and spectators along the way. I always look at Goofy not as a chance to see how fast I can run but to see how much fun I can have while running.

I second this advice and it will be the first year that I am not looking to really run for anything other than a finish.

Looking forward all the way....

Absolutely great advice. Find the fun! I am looking forward to this. I always wonder if I will be able to make it through since each year has had some challenges along the training way. I definitely know I CAN do it, I just wonder if I will. Going for #7.

Enjoy as much as you can! Say hi.
