Well, since SW flights are so expensive right now out of Manchester, NH my DH said we should just drive then! Ugh! I was worried about the snow keeping us from getting to the airport on time and now he wants to drive out of it down south??!!

We are already planning on driving in April but hey, no snow or ice, or blizzards are gonna block us then! It also means we'll have to leave on the 9th and get the kids out of school early to arrive and check in on the 10th. We are planning non-stop driving , taking turns sleeping, which we have done before to other places.

I hadn't planned on them missing that extra day of school or having my car down there. but having the car will be nice even though we'll still be taking disney transportation to all the parks and stuff. It also means that I can doa little outlet shopping and maybe go to Steak N Shake again for dinner! Yumm!!

So has anyone here driven during that time of year? Do you think we'll get some good dings come November or so, so that we can fly ?

He's just talking crazy talk! :dance3: :scared:

Have never done it but wanted to wish you good luck! And sorry, but don't be too sure about the weather not affecting your April driving! We fly out of Boston and there have been a couple of April vacation trips where we had to wait for weather (snow) delays, and this April we had that strange Nor'Easter come through. You just never know what's going to happen in New England!

Oh! Just noticed your sig! We are currently filling out the paperwork to buy into AKV! :)

If I am reading correctly, you plan to depart for FL on 1/9? If so, I would say that you have a chance on getting a decnet airfare. I have never driven, can't help you there.

Hey, we'll be there in April too. NH school vacation week. :yay:

I wish you luck. We drive down often during the spring and summer from Massachusetts but I'm not sure I would want to in February (I'm sorry hopefully you will be fine) I just keep thinking of all the times during Feb school vacation the news stations showing Logan and how its bogged down w/ storms etc. It may be good though, this past March the weather was so nice my ice melted and broke through my liner and collapsed my pool

I am watching SW for 1/12. I currently have a res for 10/5. The fare started out at $159 each way. We are paying $53 each way. Just be a little patient and I am sure the price will come down!

I'll be driving then, arrive on 5-27 and leave on May 3rd to drive home.

I really hope that flights come down enough to fly, I definately don't want to drive then, plus I need to be home in time to work on the 20th. Gotta be there at 7am to punch in! Here's to a rainy january so I'm not too missed at work, although I would like a good winter so I can get my bonus at the end of the season. Can I have both?? LOL1

We've driven at the end of February and in January. It wasn't bad! And, this year, we may be driving in December. We have nevered done the non-stop drive though. We've always stopped in Aquia, VA.

Knock on wood, we've never been bothered by the weather. I think if a major storm was brewing, we'd feel like we had more flexibility than if we were flying. I think that the highways should be well plowed though I would definitely take any ring roads around the cities.

Good luck with your planning!

Not sure how many of you there are, but if you drive to PVD, you can fly SW on the 9th or 10th of Jan from $104 pp.

Good luck to you.

The last two years my grandparents have driven from NH to Florida in January, always leaving right around New Years day. Two years ago, they hit some bad weather in the NY/PA area, but overall their trip was fine, and the weather they hit didn't hold them up too badly. We used to drive several years ago, but that was always in April, and we always stopped for the night. We'd leave around 6 am, spend the night in South Carolina, and be in Disney around dinner time the next day

And I feel your pain with the high SW airfare. I'm going down a few days before you are, and am stuck on connecting flights with US going down, and Delta coming home, because SW was so expensive. And even my flights were $261 roundtrip. I'd much rather be on one of Southwest's non stops, especially flying by myself

I haven't driven to Orlando in January but I've driven to Georgia which is probably close enough. But I am known for driving through anything! I would worry more about the trip home - on the way down if you hit really bad weather you could always stop for a night for safety reasons and just miss a day at Disney. But coming home, if you absolutely have to be at work and the kids at school, I'd worry about having to drive at night in bad weather. The day time doesn't bother me but blizzards and ice in the dark do bother me. We just got back from Orlando yesterday and I had great Ding non-stop flights. I'm hoping something will come up for our November trip but in the meantime I've booked the same non-stop flights. Good luck whatever you decide!

Last February my mother, sister and I flew from Manchester to Orlando early in the morming. My mother lives about 50 miles from the airport and it was not a pleasant drive in but we made it in plenty of time. Gotta love my all wheel drive Subaru! My sister was coming from just outside of Hartford CT and meeting us at the airport. She was on the road in the middle of the night but made it in plenty of time. Depending on where you live in NH, you might want to check the Air Tran flight out of Portland ME. They have some good fares for November - I thought about booking them but DH likes Southwest's early non-stop from Manchester. We were checked in at the Boardwalk with our carry on's left with bell services and at the MK by noon last week using DME. Can't beat that!

well, I'm feeling a little better after seeing today's Dings! I could definately do those prices. I'm not too worried about times since we will eb there for 10 days so we have some time to kill.
