Whos done Disney Dining???? Recommend it??? Good savings???

Oh how I hate reading all these dining threads, as I'm really green with envy. This year we are going to DL, and they don't have free dining.

Anyway we had the free dining plan last summer and we too didn't have enough TS credits. I'm an avid planner and made ADR's for all the resturants, at the 190 day window (this has now changed I think). Once we got there, we phoned Disney dining and changed a few quite easily to fit into our plans.

If we went to Disney again and I could afford to stay on site, I would definately pay for this, although free is much better.

We ate mainly at buffet type places and had loads of character meals, as I have a young DS. This was the best for us, as there was something for everyone.

So I would go for it. I worked out that the meals would have cost us around £850.00. If we were paying cash, we would never had eaten on site as much, and it would have been TFG's for tea and dare i say it McDonalds for lunch for the boys. I hate McDonalds.

Normally I plan to spend around 400.00 on food for 2 weeks, and that usually includes 1 meal at chef Mickey's and 1 meal at Boma's and another character meal. So for us because it was free, it was a bargin.

Go for it, you don't know what you've missed until you try it.

Hoop de doo, mickeys backyard bbq and poly luha all are 2 credits each
For the hoop de doo and luha, DDP gets you the second tier seating.but the BBQ is first come(run)first seated

Paulh

The HDD with DDP is first tier if you choose the later show - 9.30pm - we did and got a table right by the stage

We had the Dining Plan free in the summer last year for 2 weeks. As we almost exclusively eat on property, it maybe makes more sense for us than some.

That said we had a load of snacks left over at the end. We booked a few table service meals we wanted well in advance. It is a nuisance to have to pick your dining well in advance though, you can find yourself not always wanting to leave your hotel, get a bus, another bus etc to get to place you have chosen.

We often have toast and cereal for brekkie and a sarnie for lunch so it became a bit of a struggle for us to get through it all. If they offered a Table Meal plan only we would have it.

We are going for nearly a month this year and may chose it for our first week at BCV, which I think we could handle.

OK,

I'm gonna throw a spanner in the works as now I am confused....
I have booked the dining plan for this Sep 2009, we upgraded to the deluxe plan, and I read at the time that it only included an entree and dessert plus drink, but if you look at the 2009 DDP PDF file from Disney (under table service) it states that a appetiser is included too...:confused3

Any thoughts anyone?

Hey,

No, its on the 2009 Disney Deluxe Dining Plan PDF File, I can't attach links yet as I am a newbie.

It's on the mousemisers.com website under 2009 Disney World Dining Plans...

Any thoughts here would be appreciated

Thanks!

That would be this one

which certainly seems to contradict what Wayne has seen. :confused3

EDIT: Wayne, your link seems to be for the ordinary dining plan rather than the deluxe.

Thats correct David, they are different plans but I believe the benefits of a TS meal are supposed to be the same.
Reading them side by side it looks like a typo on the deluxe pdf, after Appetizer I think it should read (Guest ages 3-9 only) and they have missed it, and if Lightning McQueen believed it was not included when booking then thats what I believe has happened.

We have had the DDP before and we are going this August on the free plan. We plan where we are going to be that day and work our meals around that.

This year we are eating at Jiko, Yachtmans Steakhouse, Flying Fish, Tutto Italia (assuming it is open?), Cape May. We also use some of our counter services on other days for dinner.

We dont use all our snacks everyday but we will bring some home if we dont.

We also buy the refill mugs for our hotel for our whole stay, although the deluxe DDP include these.:thumbsup2

We like the DDP - it can be too much food but we like planning it and eating at the good restaurants.

It's not something I have ever looked into before but allears.net and touringplans.com (in the subscribers area) both say appetizers are included in the 2009 Deluxe plan.

We had Free regular DDP last year, the upside was definately the snack & counter credits plus we did get to eat at some restaurants that we wouldn't normally have tried. The negative side is no flexibility (whilst Free Dining is on)we booked all our TS meals at the 180 day window but what looked like a good idea then didn't necessarily work whilst we were there but we seen too many people without ADRs getting turned away! We also felt in some restaurants that we were treated differently from "paying" customers but when you are expected to tip on the "full" amount it's a bit of a cheek!
I know everyone is different but it is also worth bearing in mind that you will generally be leaving more of a tip especially if you try the Signature Restaurants, not one of our bills was under $110 for 3 of us so even in the normal restaurants our tips were $20-$25 & I'll not even mention our bill at the Cali Grill:scared1:
Would we buy it? Probably not,for us it's just too inflexible.
SD:thumbsup2

You are right, looks like its included for Lightning McQueen, a bonus if not expected.
I thought you got same on both levels, you live and learn.

Thanks for doing the research there guys!

I guess I will find out in September if appetisers are really included!

Definately an unexpected bonus but I think i would come home a stone heavier if it's 3 course meals! :rotfl:

If that happens to us they don't stand a chance of getting the expected tip. I don't mind tipping at all but service has to be spot on for me.

we are going in May and have comsidered the DDP because on the past we have saved £250 using it. However the problem is this year that DD will have to pay full adult rate where she will still be only eating a small childs portion.

Now, when we went in 2007 it was $37.99 and now it is $39.99. Now there is no 18% tip (approx $7) and no appertizer (say another $8) so that makes an extra $17, so approx 45% increase on 2007 price :sad2:

Still need to do the maths for our trip but not sure DDP will be worth it.

We have 16 nights of regular Dining plan free this August then 7 nights Disney cruise I need to start the diet soon.:goodvibes

Taken from the DDP section of these boards(have used DDP many times and can conferm that it all corect)

Walt Disney World offers three different dining plans in 2009 - click on the hyperlink to go to the plan specifics

The Quick Service Dining Plan (QSDDP) is new for 2009 and entitles each guest to receive 2 Quick Service or Counter Service (CS) credits and 2 Snack credits per night’s stay.

EXAMPLE: Sunday to Saturday stay (6 nights) allots 12 CS and 12 Snack credits per guest age 3 and over. This plan also includes one Resort Refillable Mug per person, good for unlimited refills of beverages usually including soft drinks, coffee, tea and hot chocolate at resorts only for the length of stay.

The regular Disney Dining Plan (DDP) entitles each guest to receive 1 Table Service (TS) credit, 1 Counter Service (CS) credit and 1 Snack credit per night’s stay.

EXAMPLE: Sunday to Saturday stay (6 nights) allots 6 TS, 6 CS and 6 Snack credits per guest age 3 and over. NOTE: This plan does not include a Resort Refillable Mug.

The Deluxe Disney Dining Plan (DXDP) entitles each guest to receive 3 meal credits and 2 snack credits per night’s stay. Deluxe meal credits can be used for either table service or counter service.

EXAMPLE: Sunday to Saturday stay (6 nights) allots 18 meal credits and 12 snack credits per guest age 3 and over. This plan also includes one Resort Refillable Mug per person.

Adult credits are assigned to guests age 10 and older. Child credits are for guests age 3-9. Children age 2 and under do not receive dining entitlements. Adult and child credits are not interchangeable. Children must order from a child’s menu at restaurants where one is available. However, generally speaking an adult is allowed to use an adult entitlement to order a children's meal from the child's menu.

One nice feature about the dining plans is how the credits can be used. Credits are not limited to your daily allotment, and you may use multiple credits per day. (As long as there are enough remaining credits of course) Those on the Regular Dining Plan or Deluxe Dining Plan can even choose to exchange two table service credits for a show or signature dining experience if they choose.

Hiya All.

Just had a quick look over on the Main Dis Dining Board and it looks like Appetizers are not included :confused3

Only Main Course and Dessert is permitted. :sad2:

Personnally I would prefer it to be the opposite way round were as Starters were included with dessert as an extra !!!

We are thinking about the Deluxe plan for when we next go - especially if the $ stays as bad as it is - could save even more money :cool1:
