Who's buying Mega Millions tickets?

I really wish one of us would win. I'd LOVE a beach house and I know just where to get one!! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm, 7-9 bedrooms, lots of bathrooms, pool, elevator, pool house with an apartment. Yum! A girl can dream, sigh.

I just bought 5 tickets. I may be tempted to buy more tickets tomorrow, we'll see.

I am not even sure what I would do with that much money. ;)

I will be picking up a few today or tomorrow.

I know I will never win but I love playing the "what if" game.

Ok so I've never played any of these lottery games before so forgive my newbie question. When I play the game, is there an automatic machine that I can play on? Or do I have to actually visit a clerk to play? I would probably just do a Quick Pick.

I very rarely play as does DH. He told me this afternoon that he bought a ticket.

You watch there will be some millionaire/billonaire out there that isn't happy with what they have so they will probably hire someone to figure out all the possible 175 million combinations and play them all and win. That would be my luck!

There was actually a group of investors who did something similar to this many years back... I think it was in Virginia, but could be wrong.

Figuring out all the possible combinations is pretty trivial (if a bit time consuming, in a sense) The problems are more logistical... getting enough sales venues to print out the tickets, filling out all of the required play slips, and also making sure that nobody else is playing the lottery that time around. Often, the problem when the pot gets ridiculously high like this, is that so many people play, many playing several tickets, that there are multiple winners who end up splitting the winnings. Thus, breaking an otherwise surefire investment strategy.

ETA: Yep, it was Virginia:

Yep!!! Pretty much everyone at my office has pitched in. The last I heard we had $60 for tickets.

You can all stop buying tickets since I plan to buy the winning one after work tonight.

:lmao:

My needs are simple. I want a house on Balboa Island and a house in Palm Springs. And many cars to drive between the two.

But if we stop then the jackpot won't get bigger, and bigger, and bigger and BIGGER!!!! ;)

It's crazy and I bet it ends up higher then $600 million.

I'm telling my DM that if she finds me dead Saturday morning to look for the lottery ticket first before she calls 911! :rotfl: Cause that probably means I won and died from shock. :faint:

Here some stores have vending type machines for lottery tickets. You can pick your own or do the "quick pick". It's on your honor system that you're old enough to play. Otherwise you can go to just about any grocery store, gas station, quick market... and have a clerk help you.

I live in Alabama, the Southern Baptist have succeeded in preventing lottery gambling in our state. I go to Florida for my Powerball tickets, it's a 5 minute drive, but I don't live close enough to get a Mega Millions.

If no one wins it this week I may make a trip to Georgia next week. ;)

Yup, and spent a good half hour trying to find Manhattan townhouses with backyard pools (FYI, there are at least two.)

I probably will buy one, but I was thinking about it this morning:

Is it really worth it?

Let's say you are the only winner. The media will be all over you. Everyone will want an interview. You'll constantly get robbed. Heck, TLC will even try to convince you to have your own reality show.

I'd be happier with $5 million and less publicity. I'd end up giving most of it away, anyway. Plus, remember, after taxes it's nowhere hear half a billion.

We very rarely buy lottery tickets, but I am going to buy one tomorrow. It's fun to dream, isn't it?! :goodvibes

I'm looking forward to calling in rich to work Monday.

I bought some tickets today. I'm going to put together my special numbers tickets too. :) I haven't done that in years. I usually just do a e-z pick. But it's a special occasion. "Big buck, buck, bucks!", as Al from Al's toy barn would say.

It's fun to dream about what you could do with that kind of money.

I have read where lottery winnings can be a blessing and a curse all wrapped up in one. In fact there was an article I mean to read on that very thing. I'm going to find it.
