I have just changed my trip from the end of Sept to the end of Oct and have never been at this time so was wondering how the weather and crowds are?

My family went last October and is going back Oct. 16-21!! We had been the previous March and the crowds didn't seem that much larger and the weather had begun to cool down. We also went to MNSSHP and really enjoyed it. We will be returning to it as well. This time of year is really ideal to everyone in my family. My mom can't handle summer due to the heat(and frankly the crowds are much worse) and my older son and husband are in school and college respectively. Not to mention 3 full time jobs to work around to coordinate vacations! Sometimes it seems the planets have to align for us to take a vacation!! But I digress. October is the perfect month for my family for several reasons! We schedule it for my son's fall break and my husband takes his laptop for any last minute classwork and emails and we head off for our annual DW fix!! Well, whatever you decide I'm sure you will have a great time because it is after all still the greatest place in the world no matter what time of year you choose to go!!!!

We were there the last week in October 2006. Weather was fine, still hot some days, afternoon showers a couple of days. Crowds were low and we never had to wait more than 10 minutes for any attraction or ride.

That's what I was hoping to hear!

I am hoping it will be the same the beginning of Oct. I am going Oct 8-12.

We are going the first week in October and I'm worried about the crowds.

I'm also wondering what kind of clothes to pack. Should I pack capris? jeans? shorts? All three? Any suggestions?

I've only been in October so I don't have anything to compare it to.

Last year was unseasonably warm - 90's and it was a bit more crowded than my last time.
Lots of people there seemed to be off for an English school holiday - seeing as how the US is half-off I shouldn't have been surprised. (It was sort of nice hearing the accents - felt like I was in an episode of Eastenders at times!)

All and all the wait times were still pretty low. But there's never any controlling the weather!

We have gone a number of times in October. My observations :

1. It is usually still warm (we are from NY, so gauge what warm is to you). Early October still can hit 90, so we always do shorts, T-Shirts. We swim a lot in the afternoon.

2. Bring a sweatshirt for evening - usually not necessary for me

3. Crowds - They have always seemed very manageable to me. Disney is always busy, but not like the school break times at all.

4. Time Management - We use fastpass for the rides we really want - others are usually short waits.

October is great for us. We will be there the first week this year - F&W fest here I come!!!

My family loves Disney in October. We use to go the end of May but it was too hot. We go in the beginning of October and it is beautiful. 85-90 in the afternoon and cool at night. So pack accordingly. We are in the pool every afternoon at SSR because it can get hot but not too hot.

This is our "typical" time for our Family Vacation we love it. The weather tends to cooperate there is some rain but nothing you can't handle plus the rain runs the "weak of heart" off......And we'll be there the 29th through the 7th .....10 Days !!!!

October is one of my favorite months to visit WDW pirate: While it can still be warm during the day, the nights will be nice and cool. I remember packing a sweatshirt and a long sleeve shirt just in case. I always pack jeans no matter what time of the year, so I can't say whether you should take some. Definitely be prepared for both warm and cool weather.

Be aware that an increasing number of school systems in the south are implementing a Fall Break in Oct. My son's school starts earlier (mid-Aug) and takes a week off in Oct at the end of the first grading period. They started doing this 5 yrs ago and we (and several other families at his school) take the opportunity to visit WDW during the week off.

We've visited WDW each of the 5 yrs during his Fall Break and have noticed the crowds getting larger each year as more school systems adopt the concept. Don't worry, the crowds are nowhere near as bad as they are in summer but most rides won't be walk-on either.

WE Go Every Oct. The Weather Seems To Always Be Nice. We Have Had Some Rain And Cool Evenings I Guess But I'm From Tennessee So Its Hot To Me. The Crowds Are A Whole Lot Less Than The Hotter Months But There Are Some Things You Will Have A Line At No Matter What Time Of Year You Go.ut It Is Alot Better Than The Middle Of Summer....you Have't To Wait A Little But Its Not Really Bad And The Weather Is More Favorable If You Hate Extreme Heat Like I Do. To Each Their Own But We Love Going In Oct..whenever You Go Tho I Hope You Have A Safe And Happy Trip....:)

I've heard that more and more schools are having a Fall break. Is there a specific time that these usually occur, or does it vary a great deal? (early, mid, late Oct?)

Thanks!

I am from central Alabama. My son's school system is having a mini-fall break October 12-16. This will be our first time going in October. We last went 5 years ago at the end of September, and the crowds were extremely light. I don't know what time the other school systems in the South are out, but I am hoping with ours spanning a weekend we won't be hit from both sides

Funny, the crowd calendar is showing longer waits for the weekend of Oct 12. I thought that was so odd because the long weekend is the one before. Now that I see Alabama is on a fall break things make more sense!
