we are going in sep with a 5 yeard old...how available is buying whole milk to take back to resort with us?
But you should heed the advice of the other posters.
One percent or skim would be much, much healthier.
Funny, my wife, a pediatrician for 9 years and a teaching physician, recommends discontinuing whole milk around 12 months of age...

In defense of the OP, it's recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics that infants receive breastmilk or infant formula until the age of 1, and then switch to whole milk until the age of 2. Whole milk is not recommended for children under the age of 1.
The OP mistakenly said it was for her 5 year old - she then posted that she meant whole milk for her toddler.
OP, where will you be staying? The options at WDW resorts and parks are WHOLE milk and SKIM milk. SOMETIMES, you can find 1% milk...but it's not always available. It's available more often at the resort food courts, but not always in the parks.
You can always buy the WHOLE milk in larger, half gallon sizes in MOST resort food courts and/or gift shops. I know, for sure, that all the monorail resorts sell half gallon whole milk in their gift shops. Also, all the resorts with an affiliated DVC do as well. Whole milk is VERY easy to find at WDW.
And, for the record, you are correct to keep your 1 YEAR OLD on whole milk until age 2. That is what my pediatrician recommended for both my kids as well. You switch over to lowfat at 2 years old.
I am amazed at these responses. I am glad the original question was answered. I am just wondering why it turned into almost an argument over whether or not the OP should even be buying whole milk. Does it really matter? I am sure the OP is a wonderful parent. One year old or 2... if she has a reason to give whole milk to her child who are we to question that?
Goodness...
