I know I read some tips on here about sharing the hotel room with kids -- ours are 5 and 18months -- but I can't find them.

Ideas for getting kids to sleep -- was there a tip about a shower curtain?

That's a hard one, if they have trouble falling asleep with the lights on (I've had to go to bed earlier than I wanted because of it. We've used a large umbrella with some success. If you can set up a spring-loaded tension rod with a curtain, that might work, but few rooms are configured to do that.

Normally they are SOOO exhausted that there is really no problem with them falling asleep. When ever we had to stay in a hotel, I would lay in bed with the kids until they were asleep, which normal was 10-15 mins. Then DH and I would turn the Bathroom light on or the TV for light in the room, so I could get some things done before the next day.

Hope this helps!! Have fun!!

We always share a hotel room and with 5 of us in one room, that is a lot of sharing. We've never really have had a problem getting the kids to sleep after a long day of vacation. We simply crack the bathroom door and leave that light on for a nightlight, and then be quiet. After 10 to 15 minutes, the kids are out.

When on an extended trip like WDW, I try to get a room with a balcony so that we (my DW and I), can sit outside and talk about the day and the day ahead.

It's a little tough on the first night generally, but dh and I have done it a few times with 2 and 1 year olds and most recently they were 2 and 4...my best advice is this - if you are trying to keep to a schedule and to 'get them to sleep' at a certain point (as opposed to just letting them stay up until their eyes close on their own) - then turn off the lights (at least for awhile until they're asleep). DH and I took turns - one of us would go down to the food court for a drink and read the paper (or browse the gift shop, etc.) and the other would stay in the room to be with the kids....at times I've just rested (after all - I'm exhausted too) in bed OR I read by moving a chair next to the bathroom which is cracked open for light OR I use a mini-flashlight and read in bed. And then - the most important part - ignore them or continue to remind them that it's time for sleep.

After the first night it's usually a lot easier. After ours are asleep we can turn a light on OR turn the TV on.

I agree that they'll probably have no problem going to bed since they'll probably be so tired. Once they do fall asleep, wait a little bit, and then do what you got to do. :-)

I have found that our nightly rituals at home helped the kids fall asleep easier when away for vacation. They always have their blankie and favorite stuffed animal. I bring along their pillow cases, too and put them over the pillows on the hotel bed. We take a favorite book and read and they are usually asleep in no time. Once asleep, a light or TV won't wake them up.

This was the best tip I have found, going to do it on my next trip. Someone on here posted it too.
You get a couple of self stick plastic hooks and put them up near the sink area just outside the bathroom. Hang the shower curtain on them and it blocks that area off from the rest of the room. It makes a dressing area for when you get out of the shower. We stay at the values and that area is wide open. You have to step out of the shower and dress in that small bathroom, but with that shower curtain hanging up, it gives you more room. People that have done this said the hooks don't ruin the wall or anything. I haven't tried it but plan on doing so on my trip next year.
