Am I really seeing this? ******* (Cannot post link)

Give this guy an associate membership to my DVC points and he'll rent them out for me? Holy crap! Are people really that stupid? What do you guys think?

Maybe this is old news, but I've just come across it and can't believe this guy is for real! Make him an associate:lmao:

Okay, so obviously this site is known considering the name has been *****ed out and it wouldn't let me post a link.

Not something I would be comfortable with at all, but apparently some members are fine with it, and haven't had problems.

I would be one of the "stupid" ones! He is legit and provides a great service and you make money on points you may not or can't use. He does not have access to any of your personal info. I understand his service is not for everyone but for me it works.

Daddio / David has many satisfied and repeat customers on both sides of the transaction - renters and owners.

I check out several DVC boards across the internet and have never run across even one bad report.

He occasionally posts here as well as on other boards.

If I ever have points to rent, I would have no qualms about using his service.

That said, my advice is to use due diligence before you agree to do business with someone you do not know.

Would I use his service and save myself the headache of renting out points myself? ::yes:: You betcha! :thumbsup2

But if you make him an associate on your contract, he does have access to your points? Meaning he can control your reservations? I'm still not comprehending giving someone you don't know that kind of control. Is what he does even within the "legal" limits of DVC?

I understand your reservations about the whole thing and I admit there is a serious degree of trust involved. He is running a legit business. You have complete control over which and how many points he may sell, transfer or borrow. It works for some members. I agree with a previous poster and that I do not want to be bothered with trying to rent out my extra points.

As far as "legal" there has been several discussions about it on the DIS and it seems to be a grey area. :confused3 He has been in business for a while and I have not heard anything about DVC stopping him.

I understand the reservations and advantages of such a service.
"someone you don't know that kind of control?" - what about the thousands of travel agents that control all sorts of vacation reservations, or Realtors that have access into your own home (when you sell), or the mechanics that have full control of your car when you bring it in for service...

I'm sure that service is legal enough, and DVC would have an easy enough time removing/preventing David as an associate member (or anyone else that is an associate on more than a few contracts..)

I have used David's service and I have rented out my points on my own and from my view, I will never rent out my points on my own again as long as David is there to help me. He is very professional, the contracts used protect me as well as the customer on the other end of the transaction and everything from the collection of the fees to making all of the DME reservations, etc... was done on his end of things so it made it very easy for me and when done I just remove him from my membership. As far as risk, I feel that I have been at much more risk when renting on my own as I was always having to change reservation info, worrying about payment and many other things that David took care of for me. In the future if I ever need to get rid of excess points I will always go to David first, let all of the headaches be his, it was a great service for me!

Disney is well aware of this business. If he was doing something against the rules, they would have shut him down by now. I have talked to several people who have used this service and are happy with it.

I think the reason the name is blocked out on the DIS is that he is not paying for the right to advertise here. I don't think it is because the DIS has anything against the business.

Another backer of Daddio and the service he provides!!

The OP needs to understand what an Associate on your DVC membership can and can not do.

From the DVC member website..........

An "Associate" is a person named by the Purchaser or Purchasers who is only authorized to make reservations using the Club Member's Home Resort Vacation Points. Associates do not receive Member Cards and are not entitled to the benefits and privileges that are available to a Club Member. In addition, Associates may not access financial information related to the Annual Dues and/or loan pertaining to the Club Member's Ownership Interest.

Yeah, the OP understands perfectly what an associate is...he would have access to make reservations on my contract....I get it and don't like it. So when I have extra points as I do now, I will rent them on my own. Never had a problem before and won't in the future because I won't deal with wishy washy renters. And honestly, he is making a profit from this "business" and I'm sure that he has sorted out of the gray areas so it is too difficult or time consuming for DVD to shut him down.

Why the attitude?

If you don't like his service, just don't use it. He provides a "no hassle" service for those members who either ...

1) don't have the time to rent their points
2) don't have the technology (internet) to rent their points
3) don't have the experience
4) just too scared to enter the rental business

His service "helps" a lot of members and is safe. Not much difference then posting here on Disboards, except Lisa, Carol, WebMaster Doc, etc are not the one making your reservation for you.

David provides a valuable service to DVC owners, and has many testimonials, even on this thread. Why would the occasional renter want the hassle? And yes, why the attitude? Highly, highly, recommend him!

Just curious here but what is his fee for this service?

Totally agree. I have not used him, but would consider it in the future. I rented points last January to some great people. However, I had a two week period of communication with several interested parties, (including some that backed out) It was a real, and time consuming Pain in the butt. Plus I got $10.00 per point, and I am fairly sure he would have gotten $11.00 per point, based on other's experience with him.
