What is so strange is Disneyland is more expensive than Disney world now.

A 4 day 1-park ticket is $260 at Disneyland. A 4 day 1 park ticket at WDW is $330.

I think people are allowed to complain, I mean it is a bit of a bummer doesn't mean I won't still be renewing my pass. I just wish they had gotten rid of the Deluxe as well, or the SoCals. Which I am sure will happen next year with the SoCal. I'm interested to see if the crowds lessen, I highly doubt it. People will still buy the passes.

This adds another layer of complication to my planning, because I'm not too put off by the math (though as a single person, I only have to buy one, so that certainly makes a difference). I have had a Deluxe this year (a gift), and intended to renew after the first of the year because I'm considering at least two week-long vacations throughout the year. I'd also been thinking really hard about PP+ for at least one of those. (I didn't have it last time and you'd be surprised how fast $15 a pop downloads add up). For both trips, the best price for PP+ would be $140. So, that's $740. Signature's only about $100 more, and I would have more flexibility on when I came (I had a couple of weeks where I was able to get off work, but the dates didn't work with DL's blackouts, and I would never go during the super crowded times anyway.) If I do two trips, with the discount for hotels and food, I would probably still come out on top.

The question is whether I'd really be able to do that... So, decisions, decisions!

Signature is the way to go, price increase isn't as bad and we are normally out of town for the 15 blackout dates anyway, so why pay for them? If we really do want to go during that time, we could always upgrade at that time as well.

I have to say that I was in the parks this weekend and there was quite a bit of talk about this. A lot of people, as usual, are upset. I'm surprised they chose to do this right before a length of construction. That being said, it has been ridiculously busy this year, so if this can decrease the attendance numbers during the holidays a bit with this new pass type and higher prices on passes, I understand why they did it.

A Facebook friend (and DIS'er) said that all hell was breaking loose on the Orange County Register's Facebook page (in the comments under the post about the DLR AP increase), and she was right! It doesn't take much for things to turn ugly. AP and ticket price increases bring out the worst in some people. They start off expressing their views about the increase, and then it suddenly turns into a mudslinging fest!

This was killer for us. We are due to upgrade 11/3 and cannot believe this - held the pass for 3 years and have never seen this high of a jump before. We're seriously debating killing the Disneyland pass and just going to Disney World once per year now. Not happy at all.

I don't think I've ever truly understood Disney's plan for Premier. I use to get the Premier and go to both parks. Eventually the price increases didn't make sense given I could get deluxe passes at both parks for less. Then I didn't have a premier pass so I started changing my travel habits. Now I don't go to both parks every year anymore.

Just curious as to Disney's thought processes are with these passes in particular.

Yes but Disney World has longer passes. We travel from Toronto Ontario Canada once a year. We are basically forced to get an annual pass which is so wrong!!! At WDW they longer you stay the cheaper each day gets. If you stay longer than 5 you are forced to buy tickets all over again. It is bad enough that we pay 32 cents more for every US dollar we spend. I hate we are forced to get an annual pass that we only use once a year.

WDW 7 day ticket with hopper $424.94
Disneyland 5 with hopper plus 2 day ($315.00USD + $225.00 = ) $540.00

Before the price increase it made sense to get the Annual pass even now it does because of dinning discounts and merchandise.

WDW The Platinum Pass sells for $797.69 and is good every day of the year, and now throws in Photopass downloads..
Disneyland The Signature Plus Pass will have no blockout dates, and costs $1,049.

Disneyland is offering much much less and also with so much construction. Very sad.

Whenever I get a DLR AP again (I stopped after 5-6 years last year), I will make sure to use that PhotoPass option many times!

We did that a while back. We didn't need premium passes for everyone in the family so it became less expensive to buy deluxe APs for everyone at both parks and one premium. Eventually we just stopped going to both parks. Part of it is just physics. A body in motion tends to stay in motion....

The other part of it is that there are no special pins, etc so very little prestige with having that pass over other options.

I just looked at the vouchers we bought at the Disney Store today. They do say December 2016!

Apparently our Disney Stores in AZ don't sell AP's. Disappointing.

My 2 cents (and that is all it's worth): The upcoming construction at the park is going to affect the ability of DL to absorb crowds even more so they needed a way to decrease AP holders now, while Star Wars Land is being built. The smartest way to do this and maximize their profit (since they are a business) is to raise the price. So far, they haven't decreased demand with their price increases since the park just continues to be busier and busier. So the increases will continue.

I was going to purchase a Premium AP in August for my 15th anniversary (haven't had a pass for five years), but was in a cam boot and couldn't stand the thought of hobbling around in the nasty CA summer heat (unusually gross this year) and 60th crowds until my foot healed so I held off. Grrrrr.

But I did run to the local Main Place Mall in Santa Ana this afternoon and the Disney Store there had a plethora of annual pass vouchers still available in all shapes and sizes. The Cast Member working there said only one other person had been in to purchase them and that no one had told them about the annual price increases. Hopefully the vouchers will stay until they sell out and others can purchase as well! I do not have to activate until December 2016, but will before then.

I have absolutely no interest in PhotoPass. It was great for our WDW visit, but for a visit that is 7 miles away from our house, there is just no need or desire for me. I like to visit during the December holidays because I have those two weeks off from school and it is a nice break

Backing up a step, I don't really have a problem with complaining. And I didn't mean to make it appear I was jumping on Sherry. But what I don't agree with are those who say "Disney is just all about the profits", "Walt wouldn't have done this" or "Walt is gone from the park" or "Walt wanted everyone to come to his park". They are right on the last one, he wanted everyone to come to his park... to spend money. He never gave the park away at cost. He would have been one that said "The park is too crowded, we need to thin it out a little, and the way to do that is to raise the prices." Walt charged by the ride. Want to come in? $1 Want to ride Autopia? Buy a ticket for it. Want to ride the Pack Mules? Buy another ticket.

When I went in the 60s as a child, we bought ticket books, and when your 10 rides were done, your trip was over, unless parents wanted to fork over more money. Walt would love it if you just bought another pack of tickets.

Walt was a businessman, a very shrewd businessman.
